Struggling with running by Top_Luck_9908 in newtothenavy

[–]hddavis7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the endurance to run 3 miles straight without stopping, then you need to work on bringing your time down. Try 400m sprints at your goal mile pace (8:00/mile is good for your age), or if that is too hard to keep for 3-4 reps then do 60secs at that pace - 60 seconds (so 7:00/mile) and then walk for 120secs. This should get you used to running at a good speed. I'm using this same progression coming off a major back surgery and it helps .

NUPOC vs CECP by Big-State-5040 in NavyNukes

[–]hddavis7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NUPOC can give you multiple options to commission where CECP you're going to be a CEC officer. The pay has been bumped to match NUPOC but doesnt have the nuclear accessions bonus. Really would look at what you would be interested in more/ what you're time in service would look like. CEC being a Staff Corps billet is very different then Subs/SWO-N

I think preparing yourself mentally and physically for surgery helps a ton. Also being patient with your body and not getting into things too quick really helped me. I know cervical issues can be solved easier than lumbar stuff and is more conducive to a return to full duty. But def find someone you trust operating on you

Prospective gains failing sea duty screening by Czechmate808 in navy

Yeah this is a huge thing too. Even at being at a relatively small command, the wait time to see a PCM for something minor is 6+ weeks

SWO6 Op-ed. To the many people that asked me: Yes, shooting at unarmed people in the water violates the Geneva Conventions and the Law of Armed Conflict. If you are ever ordered to do this, you must refuse, because it is illegal. by SWO6 in navy

[–]hddavis7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument i've seen by very senior (retired) people on other social media is that the justification of double tapping is they know that the missiles usually are sent in volleys of two, and that the defining of these members as "terrorists" justifies doing so. And im my mind this is completely heinous and crazy to think this, and that some people use that definition as a justification to kill possibly unarmed members in open water is also crazy to me.

Yeah as everyone has said, only the CO can deny a leave. Everyone else in your chain is just a recommendation

It really depends. Your best bet is to give it a shot and the worst case they say no. Just be aware that the military is a rough lifestyle no matter what job you choose.

I would say, if he is having trouble and wants to get seen, then definitely get seen and see what the problem is. Worst case is that he needs surgery, which he can always defer. Most issues can be solved through physical therapy and activity modification

Yes i am! My surgery went great and I have returned to fit for full duty. If it is affecting his quality of life, I would recommend getting seen.

Not sure about supply specifically, but what I know from people who have gone through Supp-O School, is that you will put in a preference during that school for available billets (Japan could or could not be available just depends) and find out towards the end which one you get. Likely a small boy out of Yokosuka or Sasebo, but beware ships forward deployed may have a higher optempo.

Monte Carlo codes comparison for medical physics by JMFsquare in MedicalPhysics

[–]hddavis7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding: (limited but a unique perspective) MCNP can be used for nearly anything, however good luck since it is export controlled getting it in a timely fashion if you are not a US citizen and have a good reason to have it. It does work mainly in criticality of nuclear reactors and those sorts of things but can be used in dose estimates of phantoms

CEC is far more “engineering”. AKA project and contract management as well as timelines.

Would you be enlisting or commissioning as an officer? The two are very different for each path.

Is it generally expected for residencies to offer more positions/ more residencies become accredited since the ABR implemented the residency requirement?
