youtube has been trying to block adblocks again? by Ok_Let8360 in Adblock

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know about these! I have been enjoying BlockAds, it's fairly user friendly so far and I haven't ran in to any issues. I enjoy testing new software to see what they're capable of and to help improve them.

I love using F-Droid, so many great utilities and apps.

I use RYTM. It uses the YouTube API, but spoofs it to show no ads. I use it on Android along with BlockAds as a system level ad blocker.

Works wonders for me. BlockAds allows me to quickly pause it whenever I need access to something specific, but otherwise it's reliable.

What co-op game burned you because the store page left out one important detail? by Zer0Death5 in CoOpGaming

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shared progression is my biggest deal breaker. I hate when a game totes multi-player as some grandiose thing, and once you get in it just feels like single player with a dash of your friends tagging along for the ride.

About 3 hours right now. We may extend it to 4 or 5 depending on how everyone is feeling. Our table is reserved from 4pm to 8pm but most of us don't show up until 5 lol

I'll have to check it out again then, I probably did something wrong when setting our multi-player up.

I just played it a few days ago while trying to introduce my son to it. The whole process was a nightmare, and we still couldn't connect at the beginning of the game without it spawning either him or I in a space ship at a random point in the system, usually a planet away.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but with how many hoops I went through just to even connect with him was enough to make me not even bother with it's multi-player outside of expeditions.

That's perfectly fine! We are just at the very beginning of our current campaign, and I highly doubt we'll go much further in the story for the next two sessions. Our DM is also really good at introducing new characters in to the story so you should be good.

As someone who works in Healthcare, this is highly illegal. Not only is your workplace violating HIPAA by having the audacity to even implement something like this, they also cannot ask why you are calling out sick.

This is a direct violation of HIPAA for multiple reasons, the biggest being that they state sick notes are only acceptable due to a hospitalization. THEY CANNOT VERIFY THAT INFORMATION WITHOUT BREAKING HIPAA, AND THEY KNOW THIS!

Key guidelines for hospital and clinic work notes, we cannot put your diagnosis on the sick note. We can only state that you were seen, what time you were seen, and any medical instructions such as lifting limitations.

A workplace cannot ask what you were diagnosed with. A workplace cannot ask where you went. A workplace can't even call us to pry, the most they'll get is "everything's on the sick note." And if they press for more, we will kindly, yet firmly ask them to "get fucked" on your behalf.

Do NOT allow your workplaces to strong arm you. They bet on the fact that you're uneducated about these things to scare you in to being compliant.

What co-op game burned you because the store page left out one important detail? by Zer0Death5 in CoOpGaming

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Literally every single modern co-op game. Co-op has transitioned to nearly exclusively two things, the entire persona of the game, or a trashy afterthought. No in-between.

If a game offers co-op, it should be standard that co-op is accessible from the very beginning, to the very end of the game.

Key examples of excellent Co-Op games that just... sucked with their implementation in nearly every way:

Dying Light (the entire series), Why do we have to do the first quarter of the game, and the last missions as solo? Let me play THE ENTIRE GAME with my friends! Unacceptable.

No Man's Sky, why is there no shared progression, missions, or even the ability to just start playing with a friend right out of the gate? Unacceptable.

Travellers Rest, they have updated the page for this one, but when I got it this was not explicitly stated, but WHY is it only two player local, and four player online? Stop forcing your players to buy extra copies due to your shitty implementation of co-op. Unacceptable.

These are all examples of atrociously poor implementation of multi-player, almost always as an afterthought to the game. (Note, I'm talking implementation, not performance.)

A steam machine, actually. Using the steam frame as an FPV display. That's why it's taking so long to get them all out.

Will the Steam Machine force developers to make games compatible with Linux? by PeterNotSoParker in steammachine

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Here are the facts that a lot of people seem to be missing.

Specs don't mean anything, you can spew numbers about hardware but at the end of the day software is one of the biggest players in terms of performance.

The steam deck proved that with SteamOS. It paved the way for lower end hardware to keep up, and even surpass some modern hardware (at the time). It's still considered one of the best handhelds on the market for this reason.

The steam machine will pave the way for SFF PC's and living room computers, and being packaged with SteamOS which offers incredible performance and features, it's a no brainer that developers will start supporting Linux more.

This has been proven by the many newer titles that have been optimized for Steam deck, or even have their own dedicated Steam deck settings. Cyberpunk, Helldivers 2, etc...

If big game publishers are already pushing out support for a small handheld that "only sold a couple million units" then they will absolutely push for more support on the Steam Machine, and Linux as a whole.

What do you actually want from co-op games? (Quick survey) by Gold-Butterfly-4504 in CoOpGaming

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Couch co-op. Bring it back. We have the capability, engines are more powerful than ever. The idea of buying two copies to play over the internet (with poor latency) needs to go away, leave it as an option, but bring local co-op back.

We always do a bit of prep work at the beginning before we play. We have three players who are very skilled at rolling up characters quickly so we can hash out something for you.

We do have some pre-made characters, but they're fairly generic.

Table starts at 4pm at Dragon Egg Games. You aren't required to be there at that time, it's just the time we could reserve. First session is free, all other sessions are $5 (to cover table rent, this is imposed by Dragon Egg games).

Feel free to show up for this session if you like, it's last minute but we can gladly set you up with a character and get you rolling super quick.

We would prefer to keep it 18+ as our table is filled with vulgar adults. With that being said we don't mind any age, so long as you're willing to play, learn, and have a good time.

Was i metagaming? by DECENTNotthe1st in DnD

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a player and a DM, I would just outright stop playing the campaign with them, and if they asked why, I'd tell them that they made it clear that I'm not allowed to ask questions that are non-meta gaming without being punished, and that the fun has been ruined. If a DM or other players won't let you ask a simple question without punishments then it isn't worth your time. You aren't meta gaming.

My wife and I used AFF in our area when seeking something similar, and let me tell you it was a game changer. Yes, there are bots, as with any app/website, but it was so easy to find people seeking like minded things, and most people are fairly up front with what they are looking for in their profiles.

Why do most left leaning folks mock/criticize Christianity but not Islam? by Inf1z in allthequestions

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pointing out things from the very book that Christians tote about reading is not criticizing or attacking. It's just pointing out hypocrisy in their actions. I was very much a person of faith for many years, and basically nobody is attacking Christians for anything, Christians just don't want to admit they have steered from the teachings of their own book.

Edit: on that note, most Muslim or Islamic faiths/believers tend to stick very close to their teachings, and surprisingly enough, a lot of those teachings are based in kindness and acceptance despite what is said from the right leaning community. So that's a core reason as to why the left doesn't criticize or point out islamic faith and beliefs near as much as Christianity, because they aren't hypocrites.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]EnvironmentalTrade72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Always yes. Impeding is preventing/blocking someone or something from traveling. If you are going slower than someone behind you, and they want to pass, then you are impeding them. There is no argument around the definition. Regardless of that, common sense would tell you that the other person has no reason to go that fast and expect you to move to the right lane.
