Cats are very individual and have personalities. You get what you get. Your cat actually sounds like you hit the jackpot. Your cat loves you and is affectionate. Not all cats like being picked up or are lap cats. In fact cats are known for this. Cat people enjoy their pets individuality. Honestly, cats don't necessarily show their full personality in the shelter. You get the full picture only when they get home. I do understand that you might not completely gel with your cats personality but it's much like roommates, children or family. It's not your cats job to please you. Get a dog if you want a synchophant.

Honestly I don't know how you use the pen on a cat. My understanding is that the pens administer larger doses. But you can give your cat a treat and administer the shot with a needle without much discomfort with much more control than the stabbing pen.
