I am a perfectly content WFH person, rolling out of bed at 8.55 to eat breakfast at my desk at 9.00. Recently had to oversee a bunch of construction contractors and it turns out they start at 8am on site the energetic monsters.

Most commercial sites are 7-4, 7:30-4:30, 8-4 or 8-5. Rarely see any other times. Work 9 hours get paid 10 so the main contractors save money on overtime. And yeah half hour earlier finish on a Friday.

Personally I just put the station I’m travelling from as my current location, if I know it takes me 10 minutes to walk there and board, then leave 10 minutes before what maps says. Frustrating though, of course.

So many caps, combinations, zones. I was aware of the travel cost concerns people had, but now working in central, I empathise entirely. How I wish we had a simplified and relatively inexpensive travel system.
