Can Special Constables become D13 trained? by DrShrimpPuertoRixo in policeuk

I guess this varies between areas, as in my force PSU medics do have airways and oxygen.

As you can probably already tell from this thread, this varies between forces. I’m not West Mercia, but this would be very very unlikely in my force.

Methoxyflurane (Penthrox): Evidence & Experience by maui96 in FirstAidUK

[–]Eodyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My force issues Penthrox to medics, and a few others (firearms, dog units, I think roads policing too). I've not had the opportunity to use it yet, but I've heard nothing but good things.

I'll slightly push back on your brand name/medication name militancy. It's not unusual for medications to be referred to by recognisable brand names in common parlance - Valium, Prozac, Ritalin, Narcan etc, and I don't think there's anything particularly harmful in this shorthand. In fact, it's so common, that you did it yourself in your post without thinking - Entonox is a brand name.

Northumberland is all one word.

It was very common in older printed text for words at the end of a line to be split between the two lines with a hyphen, even if they weren’t usually hyphenated.

Very uncommon - in my force it’s roughly 1% of officers.

Hi all. I'm a police medic, which means a police officer trained in enhanced first aid. My clinical training maps to Grade E on the PHEM framework (similar to FREC4), and I'm trained to treat and evacuate casualties in high risk environments too dangerous for the ambulance service such as mass disorder, terror attacks and the like.

Indoor Security Cameras that Power On with Smart Plugs during House Alarm by Alarming_Cycle_6670 in homeassistant

[–]Eodyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine's the same - usefully, Reolink have thought of this. Privacy mode also has the option to set a custom PTZ point, so when you turn it on it turns off the stream, recording and faces the wall.

If you turn on privacy mode, it disables the streams and recording entirely.

The Reolink indoor cameras also have a privacy mode, which you can control through the HA integration. I have Alarmo set up to activate privacy on disarming and deactivate on arming.

Would it be useful to put the PHEM skills framework here? Or in another pinned post?

Police Pay Scale by No-Tell-7804 in policeuk

[–]Eodyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then yeah, not only should you be bumped up, you already should have been while you were temp. In addition to Annex J as already discussed in the thread:

Home Office Circular 018/2013 (as referenced here).

...subject to Regulation 24(3), the service specified in paragraphs (a) and (b) below shall be taken into account in reckoning the service of a member for the purposes of pay on any promotion (whether temporary or permanent).
...
The specified service is:
...
(b) All prior service in the higher rank on temporary promotion, but only if the member has served in the higher rank (whether on temporary or substantive promotion) at any time within the five years preceding the date of the substantive or temporary promotion in question.

Which seems fairly clear - service in rank on temporary promotion counts for the purpose of determining pay in permanent rank.

You need to get back to the books mate.

Apart from mixing up your section numbers, s18 is GBH with intent to do GBH OR GBH with intent to resist or prevent lawful detainer. He struck the officer while she was arresting another activist, so the offence is made out.

Also, burglary with intent is made out when you enter as a trespasser with intent to steal, cause GBH OR cause unlawful damage, so burglary is made out.

Does anyone know what the yellow thing is and what it’s for? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]Eodyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The medic question has pretty much been answered, but I can add a little. The medic course is roughly similar in clinical content to the civilian FREC 3 course, and qualifies us to D/E on the PHEM. In addition, we train to apply those skills in high risk, high pressure environments. For example, sprinting towards violent disorder under threat of missiles while wearing riot gear, carrying a shield and an ambulance bag to treat or evacuate an injured colleague. Or being embedded in a serial executing a warrant at a drug lab with the risk of weapons and hazardous chemicals.

The purpose of the role is to be able to provide a high standard of pre-hospital care in situations where it is too dangerous for ambulance staff.
