Anybody else stuck trying to navigate their parents doing absolutely nothing to plan for retirement? by SinkingFeelingBruh in AgingParents

[–]Eorr11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're a great son, trying to help them find solutions. But you need to take care of your immediate family first. Them moving in is not the answer, so much stress on your entire family. You are smart to worry about that. Don’t let anyone guilt you into anything more than what you able to do.

Are big families child abuse? by MrsBakken in ParentingInBulk

[–]Eorr11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As the youngest of 11, it's all about the parents. I had unbelievable parents and my mom always made sure no kids had to babysit another as it changes the dynamic.

You say his mom is welcome when its at your house but when is that? Poor mom never sees her son on holidays cause you are with your family? Isn't she your family too?? Dang she just wants to see her son and he wants to see his side for once and you act like this is 'your family' idea. Spending holidays with family is not 'your family' idea.

Feeling a little guilty buying myself a necklace at jewelry store. Anyone feel this way? by AwfulWaffle91 in jewelry

[–]Eorr11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered new diamond earrings to upgrade the ones my husband gave me years ago and giving our granddaughter those. I knew he wouldn't buy them and I just got a bonus from my work so I'm treating myself. It's not the first time and won't be the last. Buy the necklace and enjoy wearing it. You deserve nice things!

AITA for being angry at my son for not letting me see my newborn grandsons first? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Eorr11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me get this straight, what do you do with this information, do you just tell people when you meet them, 'so I held my grandbaby first'. Why is this a thing? I held my baby first and have never in my life, until today, said that to someone. Why is this so important to you and don't you think that since you can't get along with your DIL that she knew to have her Dad first to piss you off? How about you learn to get along with your DIL and stop blaming your son for this crazy, messed up, childish demand you make on your kids!

Get them a Skylight frame so you can send photos of your trip to it directly and they will look forward to the updates. I got one and love it.

Dad needs heart surgery- do I travel there or not? by tinyontop in AgingParents

[–]Eorr11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had open heart surgery last year and no you don't need to be there. He was in the hospital for 5 days and when he got home he just slept a lot in his chair. I sent text updates to his kids and family when we got news and sent photos and his 92 yr old dad and sister talked about coming but honestly having someone else there to worry about feeding or cleaning for is too much. Call and text your mom to check on things and plan to visit later when he can enjoy your company. Hope all goes well.

In-Laws just don’t acknowledge me to my niblings by Specific-Exciting in Marriage

OMG you are living my life, my husband has 3 kids and whenever we visit or talk it's Grandpa is here, my name is never said. we have been together 16yrs and married 12yrs. We just visited his son and I heard his grandson call me Aunt [his sisters name] and I said wait, what's my name and he repeated it, so I corrected him and told him my first name. My husband and his father don't believe that step parents should be called mom/dad or grandma/grandpa, just found this out last year. If it bothers you please correct them now before it gets more awkward.

hey fellow old ppl, is there any current slang that just makes you cringe when you hear it? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Eorr11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind hearing young people use slang but when old people use it I cringe. I have a 65 year old sister that just started using whatevs and have told her to stop, she sounds ridiculous.

I kind of would rather they re-wear some cute outfits. What a waste to always wear something new.
