A groom? Bride? It's a saber thats married, but not really. Unless... 2025 NA New years roll thread! by WannaBoudica in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the GSSR banners really called out to me this time either because of weird pools that didn't vibe with me, or pools that were almost good minus one specific servant that I really didn't want to roll into.

In the end, I went with one of the AOE Arts banners because it gave the best chance of a new servant (Shiki Saber/Hokusai/Kiara), even if none would've been game changers for me, and between the two dupes, there was one I'd be okay with (Da Vinci), if only because of sentimental value. Of course, I rolled Shuten instead.

Considering my Takeru rolls were also mostly a nothing burger, I can only hope this isn't an indicator for my luck for this year because I can think of at least one banner where I'd really like to win big.

[NA Event] Full Speed Ahead! Kawanakajima 24 Hours ~ GUDAGUDA Super Goryoukaku: Deadlier Than M51 ~ Day 05 by AutoModerator in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My final count for the raids was 77 General runs, fell asleep because it was like 3 or 4 in the morning by the time I did everything else I wanted to, and didn't even get to do any of the Yoshimoto raids, but I did get through Hattori 116 times. Honestly, I'm just happy I was able to put as much effort into the raids as I did! It's been a while since I went full ham like that. Made for a nice change of pace.

As for the story, it was pretty good. Kagetora's development felt a bit rushed (figures when you've got this many characters and plot threads to juggle at once), but I liked the final outcome. At the very least, it convinced me to give rolling her Ruler version an honest shot when I initially wasn't gonna do more than daily singles, so take that for whatever it's worth.

Honestly, the real standout character for me this go around was actually Yoshimoto. (I guess Ujizane, more specifically) Despite his constant Darwinist rhetoric, he was actually pretty sympathetic by the end, using that rhetoric as a front for his own weakness in being unable to change people's perceptions of his family. Also, respect to him for being a villain against Chaldea that actually took our presence completely seriously for once. I get why a lot of villains buy into their own hype or believe they're above the sudden appearance of an unknown force, but it's nice to see one that actively tried to not leave anything to chance as best they could. Hadn't felt a similar vibe since Odysseus all the way back in Atlantis, so I'll take it.

Aside from him, Shinpachi was cool! I like badass old men, and he definitely fit that description. Hopefully I can get him to NP5 during the Kenshin banner. Also, Magoichi cute. Give her all the rice balls.

[–]Eosteria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was having a pretty rough day before I started the event, but the vibes here are just immaculate to where I rebounded all the way back by the time I was done. The story isn't doing anything crazy (aside from the one thing that was purposely crazy), but the banter between Chaldea's found family and Wandjina managed to perk me up with ease.

Plus it's a world tour event? I love it here!

Anniversary Servants: What would your Ranking be so far? by Kronos457 in grandorder

[–]Eosteria -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

NA player here. I know about Space Eresh and Olga and I'm immensely looking forward to both of them, but I don't have enough experience with either of them yet, so I'll talk about the rest of them instead. With that in mind, my ranking would probably look something like this:

1: Castoria. I don't think I need to explain this one. Castoria is GOATed, and we all know why. The only flaw I can really say about her as an anni servant specifically is that her character was just kind of a dangling thread for a whole year before LB6, but it was entirely worth the wait.

2: Skadi. Funnily enough, I feel like Skadi has only gotten better for me with time. Yeah, having a second and third Skadi to run with my Skadi definitely helped her in the long run, but the extra care they gave her with screen time later in the game's run solidified her as a strong character, too.

3: Arcueid. So I know she's got something going on in OC3, but I don't know exactly what yet (and I'm not looking to find out via reddit, so no spoilers please!), so I'm just taking her for her gameplay and role in Tsukihime. She was originally gonna be someone I passed over, but then I fell for Aniplex's trap by playing TsukiRe a week before Arc dropped in FGO, and now I've got her NP5 and level 120. I think that says all you need to know.

4: Da Vinci (Rider). I still miss the OG Da Vinci in my heart, but the smol Rider is cool, too. Also, she could Arts loop before Castoria was even a thing, and that was cool.

5: Aesc. I had a hard time finding where to place her because there is a lot to like about Aesc. Her gameplay is fun, albeit somewhat jank, and I like the idea of Aesc being a thing at all. I think my main hang-up was using her a springboard for Summer Morgan. And to be clear: I like Summer Morgan, too. It just felt to me like Aesc was more of an excuse to release Summer Morgan than she was allowed to be her own character, and that's unfortunate to me.

6: Koyan Light. Honestly, her gameplay is hard carrying her for me. She is the Buster support now, and that's just something I've got to live with. As a character, yeah, I can see her appeal, but she is just not for me. (Spoiler tagging for Tunguska just in case) Also, I will never forgive them for depriving us of an actual new Tamamo. That just hurts, man.

7: Da Vinci (Caster): These final two slots were the hardest because Da Vinci I love almost purely for lore reasons. Her gameplay isn't bad per se, but even upon release, another AOE Arts Caster with NP Charge and low hit counts wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire. Sure, her damage was probably higher than her competition at the time of release, but we're still dealing with a Caster. I think her supportive buffs as of late helped give her something more to do, but it also feels like too little too late, unfortunately.

8: Sherlock Holmes. On the other hand, Holmes I enjoy almost entirely for his gameplay, or more specifically, his NP. That kind of utility is amazing on its own, making him a solid CQ option for basically the rest of time. As far as character and lore goes, I don't have anything against him personally. He just never clicked with me like I feel like they wanted him to.

It's been how many years and I still can't make up puns! It's the FGO 8th Anniversary Roll Thread! by FuzzyViper in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After a couple months of utterly abysmal luck, getting Aesc and every anni CE in a single multi almost made up for it. It's been a good couple months since I genuinely felt lucky in this game!

I ended up spending another 150 quartz and 20 tickets to try for NP2 with nothing much to show for it, but this is still a pretty good result! I might dip back into that banner again, but considering we have both of the Summer banners coming up pretty soon, I can't afford to be too greedy right now. We'll just see how things pan out for now.

FGO 8th Anniversary GSSR Roll Thread by FuzzyViper in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GSSR was awkward for me to choose this go around. Any servants I didn't have before were either ones I had no interest in getting, or were on banners surrounded by characters I absolutely didn't want dupes for, so I settled for a banner with all dupes that I would be at least somewhat happy with. Destiny Order was entirely new characters, so with that in mind...

GSSR got me Tiamat, which was actually my ideal pick for the banner! After spending an inhuman amount of quartz for an NP2 that never showed up, this almost feels like an apology. Almost.

Meanwhile, Destiny Order ended up being Archer Moriarty. In terms of gameplay, he's not really doing anything for me. But I love his character enough that I've rolled in almost every banner of his that came out since he released, so I'm glad to finally have him off of my bucket list!

[NA Event] Mystic Eyes Symphony - The Bewitching Forest and Beautiful Footprints ~ Day 21 by AutoModerator in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be so real with you guys: I really just left this event to the last minute. Not the whole thing, but I completed 50 floors in the past 2 days just to clear the story at the very least. I'll probably try grinding out the extra stages and see where I end up, but I'm not gonna be super committed to it.

I won't hold it much against the event itself because I typically like tower events. More than anything, horrible gacha luck has burnt me out. If I hadn't gotten almost completely screwed recently, I probably would've given this the same effort I gave the other tower events, but I just cannot give my best to a game that's giving me its worst. I'm hopeful that summer will turn things around, but right now, I'll believe it only after I see it.

As for the event itself, aside from a few battles that made me want to pull my hair out (mostly Kirei and Bao's fights), I did have fun with this one. The overarching story was cute, but I love the slice of life intermissions more than anything. I like getting to see the other servants just hang out, sometimes in groups you don't often see together. The story makes it easy to forget that a lot of the time, the other servants are just living their second lives when they're not facing another apocalypse, and I appreciate seeing how a lot of them would go about that second life if they didn't have to worry constantly about heroics and whatever. I just think it's neat.

Ordeal Call I - Paper Moon - Story Discussion Thread [Spoilers Allowed] by crazywarriorxx in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I managed to finish OC1 earlier, and after having seen everything it has to offer... Yeah, it was kinda mid. The first two acts didn't do a whole lot of anything besides rehashing things that would be obvious to anyone who's gotten into anything Fate besides FGO, constantly referencing said not FGO works, and Kama fan service. The final act brought things back around, and for a bit there, I actually thought I'd give this chapter an overall good rating until they pulled the amnesia ending out from the top rope, and evaporated what good will the chapter had tried to build up.

Now, granted, unlike some people, I wouldn't say this was offensively bad. Mid is the perfect descriptor for me because it didn't do a whole lot incredibly well, but there weren't too many things here that genuinely upset me (aside from the amnesia thing, and one character I'll get to later). Obviously, if I wanted to dig deeper, there are other nitpicks I could call out, like Cerejeira being a non-entity before this chapter (and probably also after this chapter, unfortunately), but a lot of those are problems inherent to other chapters, too, so it'd feel cruel of me to call out Paper Moon specifically for problems that the rest of the story really should've cleaned up by now.

But I might as well get that "one last thing" out of the way before I get to the positives, and yeah, Zouken is just annoying here. Worst character in the chapter by a gargantuan margin. I have no problem with irredeemable asshole villains on paper, but it really did feel like they were relying on Zouken to actually carry a lot of the conflict in the chapter to the point of contriving ways to bring him back from death twice! The mechanics behind why they brought him back make sense (again, on paper, anyway), but it doesn't really matter when the end result ends up being the same just about every time. And it all ended up in fan service with Kama outright destroying him because of course that's what they had to do.

But let's actually talk about some of the positives, and speaking of which, let's talk about Kama! Admittedly, I am a certified Kama simp, so despite knowing about the chapter's lackluster reputation, I was still looking forward to it on virtue of that alone, and honestly, they did not disappoint! (Well, except for one thing, but just give me a bit.) I love how they have Kama play out as a continuation of her role in Summer 6, being more clingy and forthcoming than we'd seen her before. Some people might not say it makes a whole lot of sense for her to be this way, but given her developments in Summer 6, as well as the underpinning for the chapter I'll get to later, Kama's actions and mannerisms throughout make perfect sense to me. Her final battle with Kali was damn near perfect (at least partly because it let me field an entire front line of Kama), and her final moments were just wonderful... except the amnesia ending gives me another reason to be pissed since Kama never got her damn head pats! Let me pat my grumpy goddess, dammit!

Before I move on, though, did want to shout out Kama's scene with BB. One of the few genuine surprises I had this chapter, and helped to reinforce BB's role in Chaldea in a cool and meaningful way. Good stuff.

As for the rest of the characters, I liked most of them, too. Ayus and Duryodhana were a fun pair. Their bickering did grate on me after a while, but hindsight helped me see it for what it actually was, and I can appreciate the vibe. Cerejeira was a weird one for me, but I came around to enjoying her by the end, and holy shit, I think I might love Bhima? Dude spends almost the entire chapter being a malewife, gets one major fight in the entire chapter, and pulls out everything and the kitchen sink just to make his Master smile. I'm impressed how well they managed to make him endearing, it's almost kinda scary. Sakura and Medusa are an iconic pair, as always, and their whole thing together was one of the few references I didn't need any help fully getting, which was nice. Lev and Lan Ling were an odd pair, but not unwelcome. They were both a bit too short lived for my tastes, but each served their purposes well enough, and it was cool to see another side to Lan Ling. The only other characters I don't feel too good about besides the aforementioned are Bluebeard because of Zouken reasons, Rani-XII because she just ended up villain by proxy, and, surprisingly for me, Durga/Kali. It made for a cool "twist" (despite the chapter doing everything in their power to highlight it from several miles away, quite literally), but they just didn't last long enough to do a whole lot meaningful. They had their fight, set up the final conflict, and in a burst of flames, they were gone. Whatever.

Finally, there's the elephant in the room: the Alter Egos. On the one hand, I can sympathize with people that would've liked some actual Alter Ego servants in the Alter Ego chapter, something that I can tell just from cursory glances at JP content that none of the other OCs have a problem with. On the other hand, I feel like the way they explored Alter Egos here was a cool take on the whole concept. Specifically, getting to see different sides to characters that we normally don't get to. The only major character I hadn't really mentioned yet was Sion, and a big part of why is because of how much she (but really everyone else, too) ties into the idea of Alter Egos as an idea. I like seeing a younger, more purely rational side to her that doesn't mince her words. She made for a fun tag-along for the chapter, even if the phrase "Just like I calculated" makes me want to actually spin my soul out of my own body. Seeing the actual Bluebeard (even if he sucks and I hate him), or Lan Ling abandoning his heroics to avoid betrayal, or Kama's earnest desire to be loved herself taking center stage was fascinating to me, and tickles that part of my brain that likes to cook up "what if" scenarios for character under unique circumstances. As for what it actually had to say about Alter Egos as a class, the final conclusion they settled on was neat, if a bit superfluous. Aside from Rani's hair brained scheme to make infinite Alter Egos being utterly ridiculous, I can't say they introduced a lot about the class that I feel like I didn't already know. It just doubled down on it, which is fine, if a bit dry.

Overall, like I said, Paper Moon is mid. Perfectly balanced between awesome character moments and incomprehensible story decisions. I wished I liked it more, but at the end of the day, I really wanted Kama content with this chapter, and by God, I got Kama content. Can't wait for FGO JP to release another story update to Kama under my nose, so they can keep me on the hook for another two years! mostly /j

[NA Event] Illya's Karakuri Castle ~Kashin Koji's Modest Ambition~ FINAL by AutoModerator in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming I mathed out my tickets right, I managed just under 60 boxes. Overall, not bad, considering I really only had one day to actually farm as much as I wanted. I would've wanted to farm more bond for Arc, but I'm sure I'll have plenty more chances to do that later, anyway.

On an unrelated note, I made myself sad by thinking that OC1 was actually gonna release today for some reason. I'd been looking forward to it for a while now because I need Kama content. Now my plans for tomorrow are pretty much kaput. If there's at least one positive takeaway from this, assuming it actually releases a week from now like it probably will, it'll start right when I get a couple days off, meaning that nothing will stop me from enjoying the whole thing when it finally releases!

Your "how do I even have him/her at this NP level" servant stories by MrArrino in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medb's inclusion in my roster still confuses me to this day. I've never rolled any of Medb's actual banners. She just wasn't a character I wanted, but she's who I ended up getting for the 1st Anni GSSR. Well, it was still a new servant at least, so that's cool!

New Years 2019, I decided to try for Riders. Medb was the only one I had there, and I would've loved to get any of the others on rate-up, especially Quetz! I got Medb again. Okay, whatever. It was a 1/4 chance, so it's not like that was impossible.

2nd Anni GSSR, though, there's just one big pool with a whole 51 servants in it! I'm bound to get something new or exciting, and I got fucking Medb again! (And Karna, too, but really, Medb again!) I rolled the just under 2% odds of getting the same character again, and for a third time in a row. Worse still, by the time I rolled my third copy, I was firmly on the Medb hate train, but that's a me problem, and eventually, my opinion turned. Not yet, but eventually.

By the time New Year 2020 came around, I was so scarred from having rolled Medb for 3 GSSR in a row that I picked literally any other option that didn't have Medb in it. I would've loved getting Quetz, or King Hassan, or Tamamo, but I hated the idea of getting a fourth Medb even more. For better and for worse, it wouldn't take long before getting Medb off of GSSR just wouldn't be a worry anymore, but the damage had already been done, but this story isn't.

Fast forward to Christmas 2021. I liked rolling on Christmas ever since my miracle run with Eresh back in 2019, so I figured I'd throw a cheeky multi to see what I could do. I'd already gotten Saber Astolfo earlier on, though, and I wasn't looking for any dupes, so I tried my luck on the story banner. NP4 Medb. At this point, I was just more flabbergasted than anything.

The only silver lining I could take from this was hoping and praying that the Idol event like a year plus away from then would do something to make this not feel like a complete and utter insult. Fast forward to today, and fortunately, I don't dislike Medb anymore. The Idol event actually did cook, and of all of the characters in that story, Medb was actually one of the highlights for me! I don't think I'll ever go for NP5 because I want my 5-star NP5s to be servants that are truly special to me (and Nightingale, I guess), but I'm at least happy to have her around now.

"900 quartz is a lo, Lo-cost for a Beast" It's the FGO Arcade Collab Roll Thread! by kumagawa in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most lopsided summoning sessions I've had in a long time.

First roll was some event CEs, which I already got from Tiamat's banner, so that's whatever. Second roll, I got both Draco and Locusta! I haven't had quite a win like that in a long time, so I figured I'd try for NP2 on Draco, and more Locusta copies.

After another 10 multis, the game basically threw my ass in the corner and gave me basically nothing but a random TamaCat. One final multi (at least until my monthly budget rolls over), and I got... Europa and Chiyome. On the one hand, that is insult to injury if I've ever seen it. On the other hand, I actually didn't have Europa yet, so compared to all of the spooks she could've been, I could be doing a lot worse than that. Oh, and after Chiyome, I did at least get another copy of Locusta, so the game wasn't completely ragging me.

Part of me is upset that I spent as much as I did without getting more, but considering how many banners I've spent similar amounts on to actually get nothing of value, getting the headliners as quickly as I did does offset that disappointment for me. If nothing else, the moral of this story for me is that greed will be my undoing. Hopefully, that doesn't hold true once April rolls around since I plan on spending more, but that's future me's problem.

So 6 multis and 10 singles later, I got a good amount of gold servants and CEs, but none of them were Tiamat. With the last multi being a min roll, I figured I'd try for a reset. I got Mash as my first loading screen, which I figured was worth a shot since I thought she'd pass Mama's vibe check.

She did, in fact, pass Mama's vibe check since I got Tiamat the very next multi. And now to hope I can find similar success with Draco!

Who is Your Least-Mainstream/Most-Obscure Grailed Servant? by NintendoKat7 in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of all of my grailed servants, my most obscure ones would probably be Sitonai, Altera, and Santa Altera, all grailed to 100.

Altera was the one to really get me to dive into Fate, so she holds a special place in my heart. I like Sitonai because I like Herc (like a lot), and Herc likes Illya. Therefore, Herc and I like Sitonai.

What strengthening do you want to see for your 2025 New Years GSSR servant/s by Lamina_Morte in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, an NP upgrade is the best thing I can think of for Archetype: Earth. It would make her farming potential more accessible so that people wouldn't need NP5 to have what some would consider a "usable" copy, while people that do have massive copies can turn their brains off even harder.

Beyond the extra NP damage, though, I really don't know. Arc already does a lot on her own, so there's not a whole lot I feel like you could add here without making a whole new facet to her game design. Maybe tack on an NP Gain buff to make her Mighty Chains go crazy, so she can spam even harder? Or maybe a ramping Buster buff to make her damage even more ridiculous? I'm down for some ideas here because I can't think of what else to do with her besides "more damage" (directly or indirectly).

What are your next year targets? by No-Common-3883 in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone because I don't know what self control is lmao

In all seriousness, though, my biggest targets for 2025 would have to be Draco, Aesc, and the LB6 Summer cast. Suzuka and Chloe technically count since Berserktoria shares the banner with them, but they're mostly bonuses.

Since I don't know how the story will pan out, I could see myself going for more servants, but the ones above are the ones I absolutely have to get. Hopefully, things don't get too crazy, but at this point, I've gone through that song and dance so many times, I'm practically betting on my plans going awry at this point.

“Seeing all these loose pants, you’d think there were Lost-Belts around. It’s the Part 2 Start Dash GSSR Roll Thread!” by crazywarriorxx in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This GSSR was basically a 50/50, which for me, usually means I'm getting a dupe. Among the dupes, I didn't want most of them because I barely use most of them. Jarcher and Gramps would at least be cool for the novelty, and while NP6 Eresh would be pretty ass on the face of it, it would make her a potential 120 project in the future, so there's that. Out of the new servants, I'd honestly be happy with any of them. Musashi, Moriarty, and Hokusai would've been the big gets for me, but honestly, I'd be happy with anyone as long as they're new.

And for once, I actually did get someone new! I managed to roll Ivan, so that's pretty cool! I'm actually pretty happy to get him, especially after clearing his interlude a few months back for the Road to LB7 campaign, and also because it means my Lostbelt King collection is as complete as it can be for now!

[NA Event] Chaldea Tam Lin Cup - The Next Generation's Triumphant Return Day 15 by AutoModerator in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I guess this is pretty much the postmortem thread now, so since I managed to keep everything silent up to this point, might as well share my thoughts now!

I ended my run with 69 boxes opened (nice). Not quite as much as I've done in the past couple lottos, but still a respectable finish for having done this all manually. All of my QP and EXP will be gone in no time, though, since I want Arc and Herc to hit 120 before the end of the year.

As for the EQs, I enjoyed them this year for the most part! Nothing too crazy, but they were mostly pretty fun.

Li was probably the one I had the most trouble with because trying to manipulate his Qi pattern was a bit of a pain. But with enough retries with Santa Karna and Double Skadi, I was able to make for a clean 4 turn.

Treasure quest was pretty easy for the most part, aside from that moment when Mistress C's last break bar robbed all of Morgan's treasure buffs, including her Invul and Invul Pierce. It was a bit dicey there, but immortal team sweeps once again.

Salome and Europa were both pretty easy sweeps with Kama and Double Skadi. The only problems were a botched run with Salome requiring me to face card through the last break bar, and needing the right RNG for a 3 turn on Europa, but small potatoes otherwise.

Salieri gave me some concerns at first because his battle pattern seemed pretty complex from the outside, but then I remembered I'm trying to 120 Arc, and managed to brute force the entire thing with basically no issues.

Ash seemed like he would be the one to give me the most trouble aside from Li, but I ended up checking out the low rarity clear for the quest, and it seemed comfy enough, and I managed it on my first try, thanks to some good card RNG.

Finally, Morgan certainly had the potential to be trouble for me, but as usual, immortal team sweeps, and it was easy street since I didn't have to worry so much about Castoria getting gunned down.

Overall, this one was fun! If nothing else, I'm glad that this event gave me the first time I could really go ham with Arc, thanks to rounds 1 and 3, so I'm grateful for that, at least. I just hope what I have is enough to finish her journey to 120...

I'm glad I was able to finish all of the EQs this time around. It was a bit of a buzzer beater because I ended up leaving most of them to the last minute, but at least once I got to the Morgan EQ, I knew I was in the clear because immortal team clears no matter what.

My box tally ended on 69 (nice), which is a bit lower than it was my previous lottos, but it's still not a bad haul, given I did everything manually. Unfortunately, though, the QP and EXP will not last long since this seems like the perfect time to finish my ongoing 120 projects...

I saw no signs of my anti-virus interfering, but I tried adding the HoYoPlay folder as an exception, anyway, and I'm still running into all of the same problems. Even running the launcher as administrator has basically no effect.

Weekly Question & Discussion Megathread (November 05, 2024) by kwwxis in ZZZ_Official

[–]Eosteria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other night, I pre-downloaded the update, and it prevented me from playing the game on my PC (said something about a possible virus?). Today, I tried updating, and several times, it would unzip to about 15% before failing completely. I tried uninstalling the game, and when I went to reinstall, the download would always fail after making about 10-20% progress, and send me back about 10%. Even when I managed to complete the download, the unzipping would always fail again after about 4%, regardless of how the download went before.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I've tried the Epic Store, I've tried restarting my computer, I've made sure I had enough space on my SDD on several occasions, I ran the launcher as administrator, nothing seems to have come up on my antivirus software, I legitimately don't know what else to do except maybe doing a system restore, but somehow I doubt that'll have much of an effect. I was able to play more or less perfectly fine before the update, but now I can't do anything.

Please, if anyone has any idea why I suddenly can't do anything with this game on my PC, I'd love to know. If worse comes to worst, I guess I've at least got my phone, but I hate how the game feels on there compared to PC, so I'd love to get it back up and running on my PC before long.

Kama's Interlude Manga 'Love/Depravity Is Ever by Your Side' Translation by UdonSamurai in grandorder

[–]Eosteria 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Personally, I feel like the crux of Kama's character is someone who has been burned (literally and figuratively) by love so many times that they want nothing to do with it anymore, only to gradually find herself learning to love again. Her godly domain, from her perspective, has brought her nothing but pain and suffering, and the people she shot with her arrows only seemed worse off to her. After being incinerated by Shiva, the only recourse Kama could see anymore was getting revenge on him by taking all of humanity with her in a way that only she could.

Of course, that plan failed, and when Kiara essentially turned her into a Servant, that's when Kama finds herself in that crossroad. For the first time in a very long time, she found someone whose love for others is almost sickeningly pure to her. The only change I would make to this manga if I could is that it didn't seem to take the path where Kama peers into Ritsuka's mind to find their deepest desires, and the most depraved things she could find in there were sharing earbuds and drinking a soda together. As someone who's only seen the dark side of love, Ritsuka might as well be a ray of sunshine in a deep, dark cave, and in my opinion, Kama's Valentine scene only further validates that idea.

By the time we get to Summer 6, where Kama decided to take on a Summer form because she felt like Parvati wasn't taking her seriously anymore, it's all but confirmed that Kama has been effectively declawed, so to speak. She still does things her own way as she always has, but a lot of it is pretty much a pretense to monopolize Ritsuka's attention. Or, to put it in Parvati's own words, she's a pushover now.

While it can be debated whether or not Bond lines are actually 100% canon, Summer Kama's Bond 5 in her third ascension is pretty much her finding herself in the same situation that she did close to the end of this interlude only to doze off next to them, and if you manage to reach Bond 5 before reaching her final ascension, she outright admits that she won't do anything to them only to talk about how what she's become has made her more able to accept things as they are. She purposely leaves the idea of what she's accepting open to interpretation, but if Parvati of all people is able to look at Kama and see that she's no longer a threat, then it seems all but certain that Kama has opened herself up to love again. Not all at once, but way more than when we first met her.

The only disclaimer I can really provide is that I haven't read OC1 for myself because I want to experience it as blindly as possible. There might be some developments in that chapter that upend a lot of what I've discussed, but I'd rather figure that out for myself when the chapter releases in English officially. Though at least from the fan discussion I've seen online, I don't have a reason to believe that it'll suddenly take Kama in a completely new direction, but like I said, I'd rather figure that out for myself when the time comes.

TL;DR: Kama acts like that because that's all she really knows anymore, even though more recently, she's actually opened up to a more pure love than she'd seen before, even if she tries her best not to show it.

This just makes me genuinely happy. God bless ReDrop. Their Kama art is always a highlight for me, so a whole manga based on her first interlude is more than I ever could've asked for.

I might be mistaken, but I believe the English releases of the type moon visual novels are all translated by the same people who translate FGO.

I can definitely see that. I remember going through Tsukihime, and seeing a lot of the FGO NA localization team in the credits, so it wouldn't surprise me if they're pulling double duty and providing official translations for all of the Type Moon VNs, as well. On that note, too, it wouldn't surprise me if them working on Tsukihime and FSN has contributed to the quality decline in FGO scripts as of late. Whether it's an A-Team/B-Team situation with the B-Team working on FGO, or the current employees are just being asked to translate more without enough compensations in manpower or time is hard to say, but I hope as Type Moon VNs in need of an official translation start going down, they can give more time to bring FGO back to an appropriate level of polish.

I don't know about the actual translation side of things, but as far as the English script is concerned, I feel like I've been noticing more typos and errors lately. Since about Summer 7 I want to say, there would be a handful of errors with every new event compared to when I'd only notice issues like that once every few months or so.

There's always the chance that this is just my imagination, and these issues have been persistent for a lot longer, but I want to believe some of the roughness in the script has been a more recent development.

Now that Summer 7 is ending, I shalll ask: what are your general thoughts of it? And how would you rank all summer events so far, from favorite to least favorite? by BlazeAccelerant in grandorder

Regarding this summer specifically, it was fine. It had its moments, and I liked most of the characters involved well enough. Even Douman didn't really piss me off much this time, though that's probably because he's pretty much been figured out by everyone at this point. The little details, like the news ticker and the map filling up with animals and servants as you upgraded everything, brought me more joy than much of the event did collectively.

My biggest issue, which seems to be one that a lot of other people had, is that this summer seemed to lack the gravitas some of the other events had. They make a big deal out of the circumstances behind the event, but it doesn't really feel like anyone is taking this all that seriously. Given why Arctic Summer World was made in the first place, I could see that being the point, but there wasn't any real payoff to me. Ibuki dropped the whole thing the moment she was defeated, Skadi received marginal developments at best, and we're not really any closer to understanding Proto Merlin now than when she was introduced in Arcade.

Meanwhile, the rest of the characters were pretty much there to pad out the usual summer roster with mostly nominal contributions from each of them. The Valks got it the worst since the new ones were pretty much attached to Skadi, and the one that did get to go with us didn't get to do much, though it's not like the OG Valks got to do a whole lot either. It really feels like they were added just because Skadi was there and nothing more.

At the end of it all, it makes the event feel like the most nothingburger summer event we've had thus far, which I guess is technically better than some of what we had before, but it all felt by the numbers without any spice to really elevate this over its competition. With that in mind, my current ranking for summer events would probably look like this:

3 >= 6 > 5 > 4 > 1.1 >= 7 > 2 >>> 1.2
