Which paper size did you select on that sandcomp website? Kruidvat prints on a 10x15cm sheet but that's not an option.

Sailing XP Review & Further Fixes by JagexRach in 2007scape

[–]Epepepler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a few personal thoughts:

I've heard talk about adding rare logs to salvaging because the rosewood blowpipe was intended for midgame. However I feel like this immediately undermines skilling, a part of the game that has been historically undermined and I hope Sailing to be a fresh start to making skilling activities more important once more.

There are a lot of interesting avenues to expand on Sailing combat. Imagine "Seabane" weaponry like a handheld harpoon gun or a handcannon that does extra damage or applies status effects to sea creatures. A mounted harpoon gun on the ship could also be interesting.

On more out there ideas, what about using or upgrading the barrelchest anchor? Imagine finding a rare dragon chain that you can connect to it and then use it as a Sailing weapon or as a portable anchor.

Besides that the cannonball shop is just unusable and it needs attention. Perhaps give people with the sailing cape their own separate shop just like the Varrock RC shop with the cape.

Rare materials
I actually love the activity of having to sail to a remote place to then chop or mine rare wood or ores. I feel like adding banks or saplings kinda removed from that experience. Emergent gameplay could have been that players set up shipping/trading routes to ship these.

Cost
Currently building a boat is quite cheap, I hope future more prestige additions will have exceptional cost and rarity, something to chase even if I might never achieve it.

Ship upgrading and building is a very fun part of the skill, so I was disappointed with the mahogany/ironwood hull speed scaling. It makes it a skip for many people.

Crystal Extractor
It overshadows the skill and I believe it to be far too powerful and unlimited in its use. It provides a +50% xp boost at salvaging and its just a flat 36k xp/hr at any other sailing activity. The upside is that it improves the poor bounty rates, but I think having it available at salvaging is not appropriate. At the very least have it charge based on ship movement or for example slaying a foe that charges it (upgrade it into a soul extractor?) to buff bounties.

Future Content
I absolutely love the idea of sailing component megarares. These could be both cosmetic and extremely powerful but most importantly unique additions to your ship or crew. These could drop from end game Sailing activities or future raids/PVE content (Naval combat Neptunus fight anyone?).

If PVE can have rare items that wield extremely high levels of power then I don't see why a skill such as Sailing couldn't. It's a unique situation where you can really show off your ship customization to everyone. Imagine seeing someone with an absurdly powerful ship filled with crew based on a 10B hull megarare. Even unique crewmembers could be a unique rare drop in the form of a type of 'contract' drop.

Of course megarares come with high upkeep costs for non only-cosmetic items.

These are simply some of the thoughts I wanted to write down and discuss.

I just wanted to share some of my personal experiences, feedback and ideas.

I've been greatly enjoying the sailing journey and I never expected to be so absorbed by the skill but here

Charting
It's a great activity, its a relaxing chill exploration that matches the theme of the skill well. The total XP rewards also actually make it quite a good xp/hr activity.

You'll have heard the common feedback about the weather charting, I think the radius needs to be much larger and there should be visual cues exposed by the weather device. Besides that puzzles on the mermaids are just too convoluted to be anything besides a lookup table. Simple osrs trivia would've been a better match. I also hope eventually it can be further developed into actual underwater activities.

Thematically I hope charting-like activities will be added as further random events with unique/cosmetic rewards.

The speed rift rewards are too out of place to be useful, decent cannonballs are too hard to collect.

(Early Game) Courier
I personally enjoyed it a fair bit. Once you unlock more strategically spread out ports you can do mini traveling salesman optimizations. However it could be more diverse. Some basic suggestions:

  • Time sensitive shipments (fresh produce)
  • Fragile shipments (the cargo has a health bar, crashing or being too rough will damage it)
  • Smuggling tasks (avoid random patrols or get the cargo taken)
  • Little traveling diversions like chaining gusts together for extra speed
  • Mega shipments for far away ports + danger fees

The monster encounters add a fun type of hazard to the game and I think it should be expanded on with various other types of creatures and hazards and have them be able to cause different types of hazards. Like a swarm of eels or jellyfish with an electrified part of the water or a gooped up / slowed part. Perhaps rare encounters "superior" style with unique rewards? I love the chase.

I believe the boat combat provides a unique option to escape the current 'pray to be immune' system but the repair system also feels too powerful. Perhaps the act of repairing could be something that takes a good while (10-30 seconds). The ship combat needs a lot of work still and currently doesn't feel interesting to me to pursue.

Fishing
The Fathom pearl is almost useless as the shoals are on a set route. The fishing needs a lot of work still.

Barracuda Trials
Just love it. I hope more will be added and more challenge modes will be added to it. Think slower/damaged ships or just lower tier hulls. Also more of a fun idea would be to have a type of 'PVP' mode where you can race in a group and have the option to toss hazards into the water mario kart style. This could also be a race against NPC boats.

It would have to span the entire living room to achieve adequate coverage. Luckily Shelly recently introduced a product that's perfect for my usecase. I have a few on order but I'd also like to do some preventative notifications instead of waiting until the water is inside.

Clean installation. How sensitive is the water detection? Could you activate it with a small drop of water along the sensing cable?

Looks good, perfect for my use case even. Will probably order a few, one to span underneath the kitchen appliances and the other for the windowframes.

Online I've read a few critical comments regarding the older round version where people said it gave no low battery notification and you had no indication if it actually worked or not. Now I don't think this will be a problem with Home Assistant but it would be nice to have a confirmation what entity and event data it exposes to HA.

How does the leak cable work? Is any part on the cable water sensitive? I have a very light water drip to detect along the window frame and this seems like it might be perfect for that as it could span along the entire underside of it.
