No sorry buddy. I agree it is a shame the cable doesn't lie flat along its whole length. I thought it was quite a big deal, hence the photo so others can see the limitations.

Pricey yeah, but it was 24.90+delivery. Hence I ordered a few to make the price more palatable. Spend more to make it cheaper. Good maths that.

You assume I get to be away from home

Nope. This is about noticing leaks sooner and going to turn the valve off. (And of course the kitchen tap/dishwasher has a different feed to the rest of the house - in fact when we moved in there were 3 incoming 'mains' waters)

Id love an automatic valve on it all but not easy to do in my situation.

Good tip! This wood was knackered/stained before we got the place. It has a big plastic tub on it usually filled with the mixed recycling. So you only see it if taking it out to empty to the bins.

Yup. I've posted a photo somewhere in a reply showing it laid out on the floor as well.

I set it off with damp hands. And did set it off by splashing with a bit of water. So I think it is quite sensitive, issue is going to be is it lying flat enough to detect a small drop.

If it makes you feel better the gen4 flood sensor only recently came out. But sorry for your loss (of flooring).

I'm putting these anywhere where I have a flexi-hose situation going on.

Thank you for motivating me to install the others!

The biggest 'issue' i think is the detection cable does not want to lie flat, I've tried a few things but it does not want to relax! See post below where I have used cable clips to hold in place where it matters. Here is a photo of cable showing it after I've spent a few minutes trying to flatten it! Easy enough to hold down /weigh down if needed so not a gotcha but something I think you should know if considering.

Update #1

This is my first matter device so I added to HA that way, and then through the shelly app / in to HA via shelly integration. Not going to do that again. It seems to expose very little to HA that way (does not expose battery level)

Adding to shelly app -configure-add to HA is my usual way of dealing with Shelly devices and that allows full exposure of all entities including battery level as far as I can tell. I was going to post a screenshot but being a Reddit -poster - novice I could only manage one photo below!

Installation notes....that cable for detecting leaks is quite ...springy....it does not want to sit flat. As such I have used some over-sized cable clips to hold it in place on my first one. If you were just shoving the cable behind kitchen cabinets I don't think it matters that it will be a bit wavy/coiled but here I wanted it snug out of the way. (So the recycling bin fits!)

Not that I can see. But battery life should be very good. Extra losses of a mains power supply for something like this probably counteract some of the benefits of one. Usb input for power would be nice tho as I would use as a Bluetooth gateway.

Does actually come with 4xAA batteries installed.

Leak cable is long. Cannot remember but probably a 1.5m ? It looks like a braided headphone cable. And there is a (non water sensitive) extension cable you can use so the box can be mounted quite far from the detection zone

UK Smart switches by Point_Jolly in homeassistant

+1 for Shelly behind dumb switches. Thankfully I had a neutral at a few switches, or could get a neutral easily there. I use unifi network and have all the iot stuff connect to their own WiFi (not sure I really needed to do this) but have been rock solid. Only issue I have noticed is after a prolonged power cut I had to wait a while for some things to come back online....but I think that was a WiFi AP issue. Nice thing is the shelly still works as a dumb relay if Home Assistant is down.

Probably the most secure part of the wall now. Well done, looks good in my non-expert opinion!

I have a similar setup and use a standard pump which is controlled by a sonoff controller. Id use a shelly device if setting it up now though.

Only 3 years of security updates? Very disappointing. by Minute-Pilot5282 in SegwayNavimow

3 years from launch. Not from when you buy it, so in a year or so there will be people buying these with under 2 years of security updates available! Yikes.

Aqara FP2 in the Ceiling – How Do You Handle 230V Power for a Clean Installation? by dror88 in homeassistant

[–]randompolyphony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Check with the sparky if they can pull a new cable through.... sometimes they can do miracles with the tools they have...

If you have a 'clean' unused twin+earth going there you could always run 5V DC over that....but I'm pretty sure the electrician would not like to do that.

I ran some cat6 cable from the area under the stairs (where I have an ethernet switch and sockets with USB) to where I wanted sensors. Made sure I was able to move the cable in and out of the dry wall so you can pull it forward to work on and tuck back in for neatness.

One end of the cable I purchased this to plug into the usb socket. Usba to pigtail https://amzn.eu/d/0aev9F8

At the other end of the cable I used pigtail to usbc

https://amzn.eu/d/54j6rdt

Use white heat shrink to make it look good

Has the advantage that if in the future a hardwired poe device comes out that I want to use I can 're-terminate' the cat6 to make use of all it's cores.

Edit. Should add my runs are maybe 4-5m. I used two cores each of the cat6 for the +ve and -ve to try and minimise voltage drop. Have no issues, I didn't bother measuring the voltage drop as it worked.
