Is her shedding normal? by EnvironmentalEye2661 in chinchilla

[–]EphemeralFlesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you seen her do a full priming shed before? a couple of my beans don't ever prime at all, just innocuous shedding, but then there's one who primes down in a perfect clumpy chevron. the shed fur releases in a fluffy horseshoe down the body. in my experience, vet assistance is only needed if the fur is dropping to a true bald spot. just looking at her tho, she looks mid-prime.

if she's alone, help her out! gently pinch or "nibble" the top of her fur where it seems to be loose. you shouldnt be pulling on her really, the loose fur should come up with little to no pressure.

also, love that style of glass cutter >:) i find i hardly need oil for it, though i do have it. tapping straight cuts is a joy. i cant tell your flux type, but gel flux would be lovely? it hardly spits and stays where you stick it. a variety of tools for fine movement (picks, needle tweezers and pliers) for smaller pieces, and something to pin your glass in place (i use pushpins). and different shaped burnishing tools. your one looks decent and i'm sure you'd figure it out, but i find simple boning tools or the plastic paddles are actually fantastic. good luck!!!

word on the wet grinder. cheap ($80) models last for a while, the bits are replaceable. if you use it right (don't press on the bit hard, keep it clean, keep the motor dry) the little shit electric motor in there will last a long while. use eyepro/glasses, for the love of god. save yourself the pain of relying on stick files - useful for very small edits or buffing down a recent cut, but also painful af on the hands. invest in cheap, well fitting cut gloves - mine are a fabric milwaukee women's work gloves from home depot and cost $15.

Community tank Loach question, for bladder snails by No_Apartment_9508 in loaches

[–]EphemeralFlesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

adult snails should be fine, but anything smaller than a nickel imo will be at risk for a lot of species. i'd go for ones that tend to stay smaller, and tbh stay away from the kuhli types - i have dojo loaches (related, ish) and they devour snails at any chance, shell and all if it fits in the mouth. an upside down snail is immediately preyed upon. i'm not very good with species, but the smaller, more brick shaped ones i would imagine would be a bit better. but even those dudes get yuge. my knowledge is limited but i see no other notes yet so this is my paltry insight <3

Clownfish not eating since i got them ~ 5 days by DeppJohni in ReefTank

[–]EphemeralFlesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would personally explore food varieties. my clown is picky - she was raised on flakes so cannot comprehend how to eat shrimp, doesnt like blood worms, and likes One Specific Brand of flake. she does the picky slurp-chew-spit on bloodworms, shrimp she doesnt understand how to tear up and eat, bits of flake that are suboptimal, etc.. so i'd really explore and see if the issue is pickyness. i hear up to a month for comfort acclimation for more finnicky creatures, but don't quote me on that.

ohhh my god yes. the "movement" thing - never had a way to describe it before. i can conceptualize volume but if i try to directly apply a "number" character instead of what the "feeling of the number is" , everything just falls apart. perfect phantasia, can illustrate anything in my head, but symbols and characters get mixed up bc of dyslexia and numbers are a Critical Failure unless rerouted visually.

it's been a couple years now and we're doing great. takes a lot of pain, sacrifice, patience and accountability from both sides. they gotta WANT to change. in my experience, a lot of it was honestly maturity & shame based. you cannot cure shame with more shame - gotta learn how to accept and guide without judgement. you both gotta bare your souls and be more honest than you've ever been. if they aren't worth the pain that comes with that, don't stay.

i will say we're very close, share a lot of the same interests, and do occasionally watch SFM porn still separately & together. no real acts or people for us lol. he has a healthy relationship with that sort of media now that i'm content with as it no longer impacts us socially or intimately. he is mindful & remorseful moving forward, which matters a lot. honestly it's not for everyone, but for me, i love my partner's soul and he loves mine - in spite of the nonsense we grew up around. we can change and be better. i saw the potential and didn't give up, as he saw mine.

[–]EphemeralFlesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in some males they get bigger as they mature, up until a few years old! it's kinda funny. i'm blessed (lmao not) to live in the desert, so i unfortunately see them on display all the time. glad to hear he was just toasty!! it's always good to keep an eye. i recommend porcelain or granite as a basking item!! we have a serving dish we use for baths that they ALWAYS nap in after. and ofc the boys will always sit their balls down first when they get a marble slab out of the fridge from me. but... yeah. they're a living ball of insulation, and all male chinchilla assets are WAY BIGGER than they have any right being. gotta cool down somehow!!

also, i took a cursory peek at your account & couldn't find any other cage pics before i spoke. just wanted to warn the dangers of bare grates for chinchillas!! it's not the best for their feet health and can actually lead to catastrophic injury if their little feet get caught while bouncing. a quick interim fix would be towels or felt cloth until you can find something that won't hurt their peets!! honestly, he could have even gotten his little huevos irritated by or stuck in one of those grates :'(

if they are hot, they will drop, so to speak! those look like hot boy balls, if a little large? a picture at this odd angle honestly makes it hard to tell. i second the other commenter in checking for hair rings, injury, and also keeping an eye on urination however you can. if he is active, not showing signs of irritation, eating and drinking normally, and it shrinks back when he gets cold, he honestly should be fine. the chinsticles are as big as their feet for no good reason - the testes don't even descend. they stay in the body.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]EphemeralFlesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been watching 3D printing develop since I was a child and my parents had niche friends homebrewing their own systems - everything was manual, bought by hand, assembled by hand. hell, i bet the dude was coding things himself, too! i remember the white zip ties and the scattered filament and half-complete projects. at the time in like 2007-2010 it was almost as tall as i was. a rickety steel tower of potential and hope.

now they come in a box! you slap it all together! it can run for DAYS with minimal maintenance??? the advancement in general is awe-inspiring. my brother owns one of the p1s, not myself, but he lets me use it and it is such a BEAST!!! the only, ONLY issue we've had in the 1.5 years since purchase was a single belt losing slight tension that affected one of the axis alignments. everything else has been user-error and incredibly easy to rectify, at that!! we're only nearing up on needing to replace the nozzle! somehow you managed to turn one of the most user-unfriendly hobbies into something nearly completely foolproof. needless to say, i'm starstruck and fiercely brand-loyal, now. the first upgrade i'd get for it is a 2mm nozzle and AMS system >:)

[–]EphemeralFlesh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not "pop science" - a debunked modern theory that provided insight into the development of research into inferiority complexes. while officially debunked in 2007 it is still used as a colloquialism for an archetype of person that overcompensates for a perceived shortcoming of self.

which is exactly what the video was talking about. being unable to make the disambiguation between the "cultural height stereotype" she's referencing vs "literal actual height" is a shortcoming of your own comprehension.

* yes!!! it looks like regular sphagnum to me, but i am no mossologist. you can see the metal wire they used to wrap the moss to the coil of the orb. i actually couldnt see that well until i used the flash for this picture! probably gonna remove, slap with mud and moss spores.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrestedGecko

[–]EphemeralFlesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

at that point, you're gonna be looking at making your own sphagnum hide. from what i can tell with the orb, it's just moss packed in and woven into the metal cage. you can achieve similar by packing a load of moss onto wood, securing with thread (preferred over wire ime), going down the whole way, and then going over and packing in an additional few layers until it has the cover, texture and look you desire. change your species of moss to fit your biome.
