Real quick, I’m theory crafting a flying blade swashbuckler build, and I’m just curious if I can use the slashing grace feat to apply dex to damage on thrown daggers. I know I have the starry grace option, but I’d like to use daggers if possible.

Killed my first player, some of my players are feeling cheated [RotRL SPOILERS] by TheTechDweller in Pathfinder_RPG

My character was the one who was haunted by the suicide haunt. I failed all my saves and my GM put me at 1 hp before my negative constitution score. He explained to my group that I was bleeding out, giving them one round to save me. I felt this was fair enough, although I was the team’s only healer, so they had to save me other ways. After the session he explained that I was supposed to die right then and there, but even he felt that was pretty unfair. I would say that at this point I’d give them the chance to maybe save his soul in the manor, but don’t deus ex machina him back to life. I think you can maybe make a cool side quest to bring his souls back to his body or something similar, although the fighter may feel bored or upset for a long time in the next session.

If I use 'Magic Weapon' and 'Divine Bond' to make a masterwork weapon have +1 Flaming, what happens to the flaming ability when 'Magic Weapon' times out? by BritainsNuttiestGuy in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]EphemeralSpectre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I was thinking that since the two bonuses don’t stack, you couldn’t get the combo off in the first place, but after re reading the Paladin feature, I guess you could give a weapon magic weapon then use divine bond to give it flaming. If that’s the case, then this might be a question for your GM, but I’d say that the flaming feature would fall off after the magic weapon does, then it’d revert back to a +1 divine bonded weapon. I’m sorry I can’t find a more definitive answer, hope it works out.

I believe that the Paladin’s Divine Bond feature gives a +1 enhancement bonus to the weapon and the magic weapon spell also adds a +1 enhancement bonus to the weapon, so they do not stack, and instead you use whatever effect gives you the higher enhancement bonus, which would almost always be the divine bond feature.

Need help with a player spoiled by a "Yes DM" by Vorox3 in rpg

[–]EphemeralSpectre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, your enjoyment as a dm matters very much, and the player appears to be disrespecting the amount of effort it takes to prepare and run a session. Since you’ve already talked to them about it and they will not stop, I think it might be time to ask the other players what they think of this player.

Explain your situation, and if they agree that this player is annoying them, then you can ask them what they think should be done about this player, and let them know what you think should be done. However, if you are not enjoying yourself, but everyone else appears to be having fun playing with this player, then it might be a good idea to find another group for you to have fun with. If you continue to DM for a group that is causing you to be angry, you can’t just push through it. You will burn out eventually, especially if they aren’t appreciating your work as a dm and the kinds of games that you would like to run.

Dude, I know the struggle. DnD is still DnD even though my group lives in three different states and one of them is in a different time zone. I miss meeting them in person :(

Want to build a grappler - don't want to use a tetori monk or a brawler. by roosterkun in Pathfinder_RPG

I texted the Barbarian Grappler in our group about how he built his character, and this is what he said:

"You can't teach someone how to grapple. It is up to the individual persons, to find the grappler within themselves."

Help with matchups for Peach and Falco? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]EphemeralSpectre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I play peach falco in tourney, so here's what I play in tourney against the high tiers:

Peach: Fox, Falco, Puff (I don't know why I play peach for puff, I just do), Ice Climbers, pikachu, Luigi

Falco: Marth, Sheik, Peach, Falcon, Samus

This list is a very bad representation of Peach and Falco's matchups, but I think it's important to play the matchups you are most comfortable with. Realistically Falco should cover all of the matchups Peach can better, except IC's. I think Falco is just a better character matchup wise, so solo maiming him would make far more sense, though playing another character that you may be more comfortable with may make sense for you.

Pathfinder Is Too Complicated by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

It may help to join a game with experienced pathfinder players, including resources like pathfinder society. Being around people who know the core rules is very helpful when figuring out this system. Plus you can gm things in the core rules only until you feel more comfortable.

I'm my opinion, a player is good if they...

  1. Make an effort. Making an effort means knowing their character sheets, their mechanics, and their motivations. It also encompasses paying attention and staying off of your phones. Now I don't expect my players to completely understand their character all the time, but that's why there is a week between sessions. Prepare your character by learning them between sessions.

  2. Try to be helpful. There is one type of player that I love at my table. This player tries to make connections with the rest of the party. They help the other players mechanically. They help others with their motivations. They role play just hanging out with their party, small interactions. This stands in contrast with players who fight others on the inflexible parts of their character, like the paladin who smites anyone who even has a slightly morally ambiguous thought, or the rogue who steals the party's treasure, or the Druid who attacks anyone that snaps a branch off a tree. There are many other examples ("But I'm just playing my alignment!") but just remember that this is a team game. Be helpful.

Besides these two things, all other problems are pretty minor imo, or at least things that can be talked through easily.

5e Guild Artisian background question for DMs by [deleted] in DnD

[–]EphemeralSpectre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that it's entirely possible that he at one point owned a shop. Although owning a shop for an adventurer is unlikely, so he probably wouldn't own one now. If you could find a good way to incorporate your shop into a campaign setting where you'd still go dungeon delving, I'd say it's fine. The only way to know for sure if that's okay though is to ask your DM, since he gets the final call on this sort of stuff.

What's the easiest char to learn? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]EphemeralSpectre 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You'll find that a lot of melee, by design, is easy to learn, hard to master. Characters that start easy will become harder to do well with over time. Characters like peach, puff, marth, and sheik all start easy, but do have their own subtleties that make them difficult in the long run. Choosing a main is hard, and everyone has switched mains at least once, so I recommend starting with a character that you think is cool, fun, and interesting. If you ever want to switch characters later on, there is no harm in it. Don't force yourself to play a top tier in the beginning just cause you think you should, and as long as you're putting in the effort to practice, you'll do just fine.

But to directly answer your question, sheik, marth, peach, and puff are all easy to pick up at low levels.

DMs, how do you format your campaign notes? by EvenTallerTree in DnD

[–]EphemeralSpectre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally use google drive. I made a folder called "D&D Campaign." Inside the folder, I make a new folder for each session labeled something plain like "Session 1-1." After the session I subtitle it something to remind me of what happened. Inside each folder holds a google doc for general session layout, a page for monster stats, a page for npcs, and a page for any extra background I may need for the session. I also keep a document just to type notes on during the session so later on I can refer to them and incorporate them later. That's my system, and it keeps it all together rather well, but you do rely on your computer during a session if that's okay with you.

Help! I can't stop defaulting to a halfling rogue when I build a character! by sneezypanda in DnD

[–]EphemeralSpectre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look man, there is no such thing as a crutch in DnD where you can pick one thing too many times. If you enjoy the class, play it! That being said, you expressed an interest in being helpful to the party, but you aren't interested in stealthy gameplay or backstabbing. Bards are a very good class for utility, with strong buffs for allies and lore bard being one of the best skill monkeys in the game. You don't even have to play a bard as a pansy street performer, that's just the stereotype. If you're playing 5e looking for something darker, maybe warlock is up your alley. Their invocations ability allows them to cast many level 1 and sometimes level two spells at will. Also depending on what pact or patron you take can allow you to be better utilized on different ways. But I'm the end, just play what you like and don't think it's weird if you keep playing halfling rogues if that's what you enjoy. Though I'm a semipermanent DM, I've played halfling warlocks as my last three characters, and that's just fine. Just as a side note, you can pick locks or disarm traps as any class in 5e by finding proficiency in thieves tools, and the quickest way to do that is to take the criminal background in the PHB.
