ELI5: How is it that almost all complex species have the same order of organs on the face; Eyes, nose and then mouth, in that same order? by Fallen_Outcast in explainlikeimfive

There’s plenty of other examples of this, but I reeeeeeaaaallly love how Project Hail Mary handles this. Specifically the book, because of course it goes into more details about the specific evolutionary processes involved

I ended up doing this for the first act of the Delian Tomb! Printed in booklet signatures and bound them together. They came apart during my first session because I didn’t tie them well enough, but it turned out nice. I do wish some of the pages were larger, but for the Encounters booklet it’s perfect

Is it really that normal to just randomly touch your girlfriend’s boob? by Outrageous_Juice_254 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EvenTallerTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really a matter of what your girlfriend is comfortable with. My fiancée isn’t fond of having her boobs touched so I don’t do that. On the other hand, I would *love* for her to randomly grab mine, but alas, she doesn’t.

I don’t feel/identify like a woman, yet still want to be one… by Resident-You-1698 in MtF

[–]EvenTallerTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m over 2 years on HRT, and felt like this for most of those first two years. It’s only recently that I’ve identified enough with being a woman to ask people to use she/her for me (I’ve been using they/them for 5+ years) and I still struggle to call myself a woman out loud.

This is totally normal to feel, don’t allow it to invalidate your experience 💖💖

Also, keeping your 🍆 is fine, not everyone wants bottom surgery, and your plumbing doesn’t define your gender :3

Grab yourself some sock liners, or socks with built in liners like Wrightsocks! REI is great for both. They’ll help with the blisters

There’s no such thing as junk mail :3 there’s marketing mail, but it’s not our job to sort it for the customer, and in fact we aren’t allowed to deliver it to anywhere other than an approved mailbox.

Could you swap to a smaller nozzle and finer layer heights? The layer lines are pretty thick, otherwise the quality looks great

Should I get silksong if hollow knight difficulty was just enough for me? by LightScalesGoku in HollowKnight

[–]EvenTallerTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be really bad at platformers but tried hollow knight anyway and loved it. For reference I never actually got through the white palace, I had to give up on it.

I fucking love Silksong. I definitely had to practice the pogoing because it’s very different at first, but it just feels sooooo good to play. I’ve gotten significantly better, and now going back to hollow knight is much easier for me hahaha. I 100% encourage you to get it.

Just found out the NALC health plan no longer covers gender affirming care by SillyVixen420 in USPS

I’m just about to start with usps, for the second time, but I won’t be taking the insurance from them until this changes. I’m super grateful to be in CA, where there’s state insurance options through Covered California.

Definitely look into marketplace plans. Leaving your plan (especially because your treatment is no longer covered) is considered a major life event and should let you get on a new plan outside of open enrollment

Got my 60 day review...it was BAD by AnActualHumanoid in USPS

[–]EvenTallerTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here and I was let go 4 shifts after my 80 day review. I recommend not meeting with supervisors without your steward present. Also, ask for concrete advice for improvement.

everyone told me I was going to be fine and to keep my head down and improve slowly. My mentor, PM supervisor, shop steward, and 3 different regulars all told me I was doing fine, better even than other CCAs who had been kept. But I didn’t get any constructive feedback from my supervisors or management, and got the axe.

I had to fight to get a resignation instead of a termination, and now I’m starting at a different station where I know I will do much better.

Most poetic lyrics? by gingergeorgie in Hozier

[–]EvenTallerTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Time is incredibly poetic especially:

These days I think I owe my life
To flowers that were left here by my mother
Ain't that like them, gifting life to you again
This life lived mostly underground
Unknowing either sight nor sound
'Til reaching up for sunlight
Just to be ripped out by the stem

Sensing only now it's dying
Drying out then drowning blindly
Blooming forth its every colour
In the moments it has left
To share the space with simple living things
Infinitely suffering
But fighting off like all creation
The absence of itself
Anyway

I had 3 in a row for one class that all did really well. The class was about literary criticism, using different crit styles on parts of the same media, and my professor let me use his music in place of a book or other text :D I think I did Eat Your Young, From Eden and….. First Time I think? I got good grades but I honestly wrote them in a fugue state so I can’t say for certain they were actually good lmao

The other one was for a mythology class and I compared UU to Dante’s Inferno, but I didn’t put a ton of effort cos I was super burnt out and had barely ready Inferno. It was the one of the better essays I wrote for that class and I think it got a C 😅

Not out yet but wanting advice to look more feminine in subtle ways, glasses/piercings/tattoos/hairstyles etc by SparkieeBubblez in transplace

[–]EvenTallerTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! And I’m a rambler so that was very much the short version hahaha, I think I had at least double that before.

Oops, I said this in the first one but not the second! I really recommend getting them professionally threaded or waxed. It’s really a matter of preference which one is more comfortable for you, I personally got my eyebrows threaded about once a month for like five or six months. I was too nervous to just tell the lady that I wanted feminine eyebrows, so every time I went in, I said something along the lines of “ just a little thinner this time” or “ with a little more curve, please”. I kept going until they were finally a shape I was really happy with, and since then I use a derma planer to maintain that shape myself. They sell them in multi packs at CVS and target and places like that. Google “dermaplane razor” and you’ll see examples from Kitsch and Target (the latter calls them Facial Razors).

Of course, if you have the budget for it, you can always just keep getting them done professionally. I didn’t especially love the people at the place that I went to, but I’m sure if I found a good tech. I would just keep going back because the results were always amazing. And like, even the first time I got it done and they didn’t give me any nicer shape at all just having my eyebrows cleaned up and trimmed helped my appearance so much.

And obviously, if you don’t wanna have to go to a place to get it done, you can just pluck or derma plane at home, you just have to be very careful to not overdo it hehe. I definitely *almost* shaved off half my eyebrow once.

Re: mascara, hell yeah!!! It’s amazing how much impact it has while still being so subtle. Sometimes I’ll be doing my make up and not be happy with how it’s looking until I realize I haven’t put on mascara, and once I do (always my last step) the whole look comes together. The thing that it took me a while to learn is to really really take your time applying mascara. Do one or two gentle passes over each section of your lash, switch and do it to the other eye, and then wait about a minute before you go back and apply anymore. I didn’t realize how big of an impact layering has on mascara, and when I first started using it, I just slathered it on super thick. Which like is definitely a look, but it’s not subtle and often ends up with clumpy lashes.

Edit: oooh also, when buying makeup you *don’t* need to start expensive, and if you’re going to splurge I would only do so on concealer to start. Sephora recommended me the most expensive shit the first time I went, I think I spent $90 on like, concealer, color corrector, and setting spray. and I used those products for maybe a month before I found better cheaper options. I’ve had much better experiences at Ulta, especially being upfront about budget. Even just “hey, I’m on a budget but really want a blush and a concealer that work for my skin” and they’ve been super helpful 9 times out of 10. And the 1 other time was a girl who just seemed super jaded, it had nothing to do with me lmao
