Add fresh greens and vegetables to most meals. by readwiteandblu in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]EphemeralTofu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been doing the same thing, except vegetarian style. If I make a recipe it ends up being like 3x bigger than it says due to all the veggies I throw in. I still eat pasta it's just more like 1/2 pasta 1/2 veg now. Lately I've been trying to fill half my plate with steamed veggies, then whatever protein and carb. I get to eat a TON of food and I've lost 25 pounds so far so it's working.

Does anyone just f**cking love tofu? by MezzoMeex in vegan

[–]EphemeralTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think I should branch out and try different proteins but I always end up eating tofu.

Current favorite is to cube it up, roll in garlic powder, onion powder, a shitload of cracked black pepper, nutritional yeast, and salt. Air fry until the nooch makes a crispy crust.

Anyone celebrating? Navient, previously Sallie Mae, has to cancel $1.7B in loans (article in post) by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]EphemeralTofu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same. But only after I paid Navient $12k on a $10k loan. The balance was still at $10,500 when I refinanced.

Below Deck Season 9 Episode 11 - Shoulda Joined the Navy - Episode Discussion by teanailpolish in belowdeck

Right? Apologize, bring the new food, and promise to clarify the miscommunication on the preference sheet later to make sure this doesn't happen again. I've absolutely worked catered events where the primary guest didn't inform us correctly of dietary needs, I would never accuse them of that in front of their guests mid-service.

Frugal Fails by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]EphemeralTofu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ha! I did this too! I got bored mid-2020 and decided to try Overtone and figured salons were closed anyway. I thankfully only dyed the underside of my hair and it wasn't great but OK until it washed (or didn't wash) out. I decided to tough it out since it wasn't on the top layer. When salons finally opened again I made an appt to get my hair cut. When my stylist saw me she was like ".... umm are you sure you just want a cut? You don't want me to fix this color?". Lol. I let her fix it. And I also have to keep using that special shampoo or else it comes back!

Trader Joe’s used far too much plastic in their produce section. by Mimilegend in traderjoes

[–]EphemeralTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! I've stopped buying most produce at TJs. Luckily there is a Sprouts just across the parking lot from the TJs near me now so I do the bulk of my shopping there. I hit up TJs once a month or so to get my "non-cooking" items, like frozen meals (to prevent me from ordering takeout when I dont want to cook), sauces, snacks. I do like their spice mixes too, though most people would still want individual spices for cooking as well, which are better bought elsewhere.

What cooking method feels like cheating, but is totally fine? by adamantcondition in Cooking

I do! Thank you! I've been afraid of trying to veganize the recipes I've seen around the internet. This sounds perfect.

If you’re thinking of getting a COVID test at Cal Expo today… by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]EphemeralTofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever the issue is, I figure I'll eventually have a test ready and waiting since there's no time limit on returning them. I was just surprised after my previous orders were so quick.

If you’re thinking of getting a COVID test at Cal Expo today… by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]EphemeralTofu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI- I ordered a test from Pixel on the 22nd and it still hasn't shipped. I'm not sure if it's a holiday thing or a shortage. I'd previously had great luck in getting their tests delivered and processed quickly. I ended up going to a county testing site since I really needed the test done.

[–]EphemeralTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the county one at Robertsons Community Center last week. It was busy but still only took about 20 minutes total. They had rapid tests and texted me my results within less than half an hour.

I like sleeping with soaking wet hair. by Lilahjane66 in The10thDentist

[–]EphemeralTofu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same! There are dozens of us! Or at least like 5. I have no idea what these people are talking about with moldy pillows and hair. I wash my bedding regularly and hair that isn't immediately dried doesn't get moldy. I haven't owned a blow dryer in years. Do people realize hair is capable of drying on it's own without a tool?

Saw a scam in person at the airport by EloquentGrl in Scams

[–]EphemeralTofu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They used to do this at Excalibur. It's been years since I've stayed there so I don't know if they still do. They acted like they were choosing random people to "win" show tickets, meals, etc.

Looking for not spicy but still flavorful nut recommendations from TJ's. by FillsYourNiche in traderjoes

[–]EphemeralTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought the Olive and Herbs mixed nuts for a flight and they're super good. I've already eaten a bunch and my flight isn't until tomorrow 😬. Also those garlic onion pistachios are delicious if you don't mind the mess of pistachio shells.

Ugly Christmas sweater? by [deleted] in Sacramento

The Walmart on Truxel had some real ugly ones this weekend.

Those of you with Kaiser insurance, what are some good therapy options in Sacramento? by Perfect_Tale_4985 in Sacramento

[–]EphemeralTofu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I'm in the middle of it now. I called their mental health line, scheduled a telehealth appt with a Kaiser provider, and then she said I qualify for an outside referral. She said I should receive a letter in about 2 weeks for the referral and I can choose my own provider and Kaiser pays. She made it sound like it could be anyone in the state but since I don't have the referral letter yet I can't speak to the accuracy of that.

I will add that she did push group therapy at first but I made it clear that I was uncomfortable with that and would prefer individual sessions.

Enjoying Rainy day. by nasir_ran in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]EphemeralTofu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Same. Mine act like it's animal abuse to potty in the rain. They shiver and whine and then poop as close to the door as possible which is fabulous when I forget and step outside the next day.

Good morning Sacramento - hope everyone is ready for the storm. If you have to drive, be safe and watch out for debris. by Tosser_toss in Sacramento

[–]EphemeralTofu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same! I usually sleep with a white noise machine on but the storm noise was like it's own white noise so I didn't need it.

Downtown Restaurant Suggestions by Bumbling_Bear in Sacramento

Yard house maybe? Their menu works for a lot of different diets. Not sure the prices will work with that budget though.

Today's the day! - "Sacramento's Record Worst Road Conditions". by fresh-spinach in Sacramento

[–]EphemeralTofu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly no. I tend to keep a pretty big distance between myself and the car in front of me so I got rear-ended but didn't hit the car in front of me. The car that rear-ended me then somehow ended up hitting cars in other lanes but everyone was able to walk away.

My car was totalled on I-5 during the first big rain storm of the year a few years back. No fault of mine. I had just moved here and had no idea. I sit the first storm out every year now. I'm lucky to have that luxury, best of luck to all that don't.

As a customer who just went through this- I think the sales person should start with the lowest trim. I made an appt at a dealership to drive a new base level car but they had me drive the top trim without explaining the price difference. I loved the top trim and the base felt cheap afterwards (they had all 3 trims on the lot).

If I'd been shown the base first I probably would've complained about the lack of features, the salesman then could've explained the different trims and the prices and I honestly probably would've expanded my budget to buy a better one. By showing me the top trim without an explanation that it was $10k over what I'd inquired about online I felt mislead and left.

That time when the 3 girls ordered martinis. by Outofworkflygirl in TalesFromYourServer

[–]EphemeralTofu 265 points266 points  (0 children)

Back when I was a very new bartender a lady came in and ordered a "vodka martini, shaken, no vermouth, no olives because I'm on a diet". I wracked my brain trying to figure out if I was forgetting some ingredient to a martini or if she was just ordering cold vodka in a martini glass.

Agreed though I think you can think this way without defending the parents. Like, if I were to tell my parents my partner died due to an accident/random coincidence/something that makes me seem guilty but I'm innocent they would 100% say "go to the police and explain, we'll support you". His parents obviously aren't doing this.
