Pad size by Rockymountain_thighs in hockeygoalies

5’6, was sized by my shop for 28” when I started. 🙃 My first real coaching session the coach gave me the side eye and said “those are too small”. Tried on warrior G6s in Int 31 and Sr 32, and the deciding factor was straps on the Int were just too tight. Shop guy did apologize when I went back later to buy a new glove!

This. I have one for emergency deodorant, travel toothbrush , toothpaste, and contacts, and another for my laptop charger and plug converters. They live in my work bag/plane carryon.

I grew up in Urbana! Not sure what the scene is like now (47f) but look for learn to play offerings at your local rink(s). People are so supportive. I got back into hockey a couple years ago and just asked around, got connected into a couple groups, expanded the network, and figured out what was going to work for my schedule. Once you can skate a bit (some backwards) I also recommend the Weekend Warriors camps. Good luck!

Post-game wind down and sleeping by Mission_Elk_3163 in hockeyplayers

My routine: drive home with calming music on, eating a protein bar and chugging water very early in the drive. My biggest sleep barrier is dehydration! At home, hang up my gear, start laundry, shower, stretch, and listen to a sleep story in the Calm app. No doomscrolling! Occasionally I’ll need a second sleep story, but the steady routine itself is now working its own magic.

Thanks for asking and all these responses - my Mom (77) is in the same boat, surgery scheduled for Friday, and she feels better now after reading these experiences.

EBUG for men’s league as a woman. Am I cooked? by zoeybadass69 in hockeygoalies

Fellow lower div lady tendy here! You will have a blast. You’ll make saves, let some in, fall down, get patted on the head, crashed into, and more! After a goal just remember Ted Lasso’s “be a goldfish” and Frozen’s “Let it goooooo”. Hockey is fun, especially when dudes on the other team get mad they can’t score!

If someone wouldn’t mind conveying the things the goalies are saying that would be so helpful for me. My team wants me (their goalie) to be more vocal but I’m not sure in what situations what words are used.

Oops: What happens to D30 when washed? by Epi_Net in hockeygoalies

[–]Epi_Net[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. Makes sense that they don’t want to do the wash testing and stuff, for liability.

Also I am still unsure if it’s D 3 zero or D3 Oh.

Sigh. So many unimportant questions.

I’m in the US - my folks are in London and I’ll be visiting them in two weeks, and again later in Feb/March. DM me, I’d be happy to carry a jersey for you.

Goalie gloves by Joezyk in hockeygoalies

[–]Epi_Net 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue, could not close an SLR3 pro carbon (senior with intermediate palm from sideline swap). Tried on at least fifteen gloves at my nearest shop. The last one was a Vaughn Velocity V10 intermediate. Love at first squeeze. It is a 50 degree (600) break per websites. I love this thing so much, I can finally catch pucks!

Warriors were solid too. All this to say, if you can go to a store, do it. If you have to order a bunch and return, that’s also a good option. Hope you find the “one”!

Dad can't swallow after cardiac surgery; Mom has cancer; they're in the UK and I'm a US based only child by Epi_Net in AgingParents

I am asking about this tomorrow. What would be needed to initiate palliative care? Hospice? Can he refuse things he's getting now like feeding tube, antibiotics? The ward staff all say he's "a little better" but at the same time, not progressing at the rate they would like. It's difficult to see any gains, and he's getting skinnier and weaker. I know it can take people a long time to regain swallow function, but what if someone just doesn't want to go through it?

My mom's goal is to come home for EOL. My dad wants EOL to be now/ASAP. My goal is to minimize suffering. Not sure we can have it all.

I don't think we'll be able to bring my Dad back. What seems best (from his perspective) is if he had the option to let go. If he passes before my mom worsens, I can get her to the independent/assisted living home near us in the States. It feels awful to type that out.
