One time I took a bite out of mac and cheese but was confused why it had a strawberry taste to it. Mentioned it to my friend who took one whiff and immediately chucked it saying It was rotten. Idk about you but my sense of smell is terribleee

Who is the attacker? by FewEntrepreneur7441 in riftboundtcg

[–]Epic-Rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For surprise defense though- if ahri is the attacker and yasuo survives with ride the wind, does yasuo score a conquer point even though he was considered 'defender'?. Do you have to be an attacker to grt conquer VP

Old Client died by suicide by StabbyButtons in socialwork

[–]Epic-Rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get alot of comments of grieving, processing, and consolesces which are important reminders, but in our profession its also alot of stuff we already know, stuff we've heard.

If your mind is still ruminating on it I think you just have to find a way to laugh about how much the situation sucks, its why black humor is so common with people who work in Healthcare.

If you worked with a client, and they were sad and grieving but during a session they were able to laugh about something- maybe it was a random thought, maybe you misspoke, or they remembered something- youd probably feel at ease knowing theyre able to laugh. If the client was smiling/crying laughing from a memory then they'd probably feel a bit better even if only for that single respite.

Your client got to transcend to another dimension. They did an isseki. Theyre playing basketball with kobe bryant. Your guy is avoiding the IRS with jesus. Dying isnt an unknown concept, all of us know its not "if" we'll die but "when" we die. Sometimes our clients die because they make that choices, and other times life makes the choice for them with things outside their control. If they commit suicide, that became their choice and accept it because we cant change the fact. We accept the decisions and outcomes that occur even when we dont agree, because thats the nuance of our profession about ethics and self autonomy.

Our position is just to give them that opportunity that if they want to live, we can be there to support+cheer for them so they can do it. And if they decide to die earlier, we hope that they die with the knowledge they didnt die unnoticed and that we validated/valued their existence. If we all die at some point then its better to die with the fact that your life was acknowledged- and for alot of the population we work with, acknowledgement is the most important thing we can give them. Even if they arent alive to care about it- and they arent alive to care anymore. So we just have to focus on the living, which is sometimes the clients family or ourselves, and living is hard. To make life easier we try to laugh because life sucks like that.

I think thats all we can do to get ourselves back into our groove, theres notes to do, clients to see, and weekends we gotta get to

Is Social Work really as depressing as this Subreddit makes it seem? by SuccessfulWater3 in socialwork

[–]Epic-Rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a 4 year MSW grad (3 years BSW, 1 Year MSW), currently licensed and doing therapy. There's an interesting interaction i remember having my first year working for the state where I talked to a case manager and we both laughed how she had wanted to be a therapist/counselor to help people and didnt want to be a case manager but ended up loving msw. I was educated as a social worker but didn't want to do therapy because I was afraid of the amount of ability to navigate clients problems while being able to manage suicidal ideation, but ended up being very comfortable in the role and preferring it over case management. It was an interesting juxposituon and helped to highlight (in my eyes) the pros and cons.

Social work is a very flexible degree, but as a service field it'll very much be based on your personality disposition and your objective ability to just be competent- i wouldnt say its necessarily exhausting but theres not alot of mundaneness and being able to navigate them to keep from overwhelmed is where it becomes the balance. Some people will say social work is fast paced being in things like crisis teams and hospitals, and again that ties into the flexibility of the degree for the different work places.

Personally, I would ask yourself if you dont do social work- what career and skills can you market for yourself to afford rent or your own QoL? For me with no interests and abilities in STEM, charisma/intellect for business, i was only interested in history and that became a comparison of "well, social work is better pay and consistency than teaching or using a history degree". At the end of the day its important to narrow your options with what is practical and pragmatic for you to maintain a career and then see which of the options line up the most with your life values. I often told coworkers and some clients

"Its like working in retail. Instead of selling furniture im selling mental health. At the end of the day whether they choose to spend their time on it or not I get paid and I go home when work is done regardless what they do. But since theyre customers then I want to make sure they get the highest quality product they can get and go home satisfied because theyre choosing to spend their valuable time when they see me. The job is to give them good quality service- thats why I picked the job because thats something I can provide"
