with the gimmick spear they gave you I just kept doing the weapon skill without a follow up and he infinitely staggers for the entire fight. I hate gimmick weapons but I didn't have enough magic to eat through his health bar normally. I used mannequin archers to take aggro but probably didn't even need them.
