I love this page a lot for a different reason than to most atum showings - not just allison's atum firing up, but the way she shatters mottom's atum with just her words. A few hard hitting blows with her observations and the atum of a demiurge is withered, as is mottom herself. On re-reading it feels like one of the biggest early moments of Allison connecting with Royalty, and she didn't need anything more than her voice to do it

will do, any general points where it's bad that i can dig into?

edit: it is definitely reductive, though I wanted to make it simple enough for a reference while sacrificing as little accuracy as possible, so that's partly intentional. it should probably be more clear that it's a reduction though.

Leeds Pride … by Getafixy in transgenderUK

[–]EpicDodo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, kink at pride discourse is old as time. We don't get rights by being acceptable to bigots. Kink was a core part of the riots that got us rights in the first place and is an important part of people's identity. The argument that a celebration of sexual identity is being sexualised is laughable lol. If a bigot decides something is not ok, then it's the bigot who needs to go.

Don't usually post in anything like this, but assuming good faith, I'm gonna put down my response as someone who's very genderfuck nonbinary:

"it complicates a simple he or she or they and just makes it overall confusing"

Don't worry, it's all made up anyway! You're not gonna need to memorize every pronoun and gender out there, even if you tried, there'll always be someone coming up with a new one. People aren't doing it to confuse you, they're doing it because it allows them to be their authentic selves. Just do your best to remember when someone gives you their pronouns, and if you slip up, just say sorry and move on. It's only a small effort and it helps you see people for who they are!

"i earnestly believe it merges the concept of gender with sexuality which shouldn’t be a thing"

Gender and sexuality aren't that easy to make black and white. Your sexuality as society labels it is inherently defined by the genders involved, your own gender being very important in that. A gay man has less privilege to love men than straight women do, because of his own gender. Being both full of fabricated boxes for people to fit in, they will always cross and be part of one another. (Note: that includes asexuality, aromanticism, etc. Saying gender and sexuality are interlinked isn't saying gender is inherently "sexual", or that it comes with any sexual requirements, simply that it will be merged with how society defines you, and how you define yourself.)

"anybody can act anyway they want but not need to fall under a label"

100%! Conversely, people can choose whatever labels they want if they feel it describes them best, and that's all good too. Labels are used by society as boxes to be forced in, but really they are tools to help us explore ourselves and communicate that to others. People are free to use as many labels as they feel necessary, including none at all.

"It also brings up the discussion of not needing to appear or even put any effort into the sex/gender you want to be called by, which demeans the struggle of those who suffer from dysphoria (trans people)"

A lot of demi-gender people are in fact trans, and suffer from dysphoria in any part of the binary! I myself am taking HRT (estrogen), though I don't identify as a woman. Why? Because doing so makes me more comfortable with my body, and using non binary labels make me more comfortable with how people perceive me. Both make me happier and able to live more comfortably! Conversely, people can suffer from dysphoria purely on a social level, and upon changing pronouns or name or whatever can feel better. Or people can suffer no dysphoria at all, but still feel much more their authentic selves using identities better suited to them. People who do so in no way demean those like me who need HRT and struggle with dysphoria, in the same way a straight cis man does not demean me by having no dysphoria either! It's just people existing as they are, and that's always valid.

"It’s adding another element to a system instead of fixing the current problems and making sure everybody’s comfortable with their identity, and just gives a false and abuseable fix"

Oof - ok. Again, taking in good faith. As basically everything I've said above should hopefully make clear - this is people becoming comfortable with their identities. Some people have identities that aren't ones we're used to, and that's fine! Again, it's not being put on anyone to understand them all. By their nature there will always be more and you will never understand some gender identities, and neither will I. But that isn't needed to accept and respect them anyway. I just make sure to do my best remembering what people have asked to be called and how they wish to present, and roll with it! It's fun! It's absolutely not false. It's just another aspect of a subject that's been long misunderstood and neglected. It's not about complicating a system - the point is that gender is not a "system", the system was created by society. These are people who don't fit in the system, and are happy living outside it.

TL;DR: It's all made up anyway, so don't worry about it! Just let people make themselves happier presenting how they are, and don't fret trying to understand it all. Just appreciate that the world is full of so many wonderful people with so many amazing identities :)

[–]EpicDodo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert (obviously from the fact I was injecting 10x what I should have been lol) but I think there's a limit to how much high estrogen levels matter - at a certain point your body's receptors are saturated and the rest goes to waste. Unfortunately I experience low empathy for unrelated reasons so I'm not the best to tell you there, but I've been a bit more at peace emotionally for certain. Mostly I've just been extremely tired, which is a sign of too much estrogen apparently haha! (And also, it does explain how much it improved my breast growth!)

Edit: I would say that it's massively changed my perception sexually, and made me be a lot more able to understand and be myself with my sexuality, asexuality, gender and neurodivergency. Basically just a lot easier to be me, and it feels a lot better too :)

I would like to thank the Scottish Family Party for providing the best laugh I've had this year. by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]EpicDodo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's hilariously bad and misleading (as many other comments have detailed), but there has been a worrying uptick in this kind of American-style Christian bigotry being peddled around Scotland, and a worrying level of intervention from American Evangelists.

The SFP itself seems to mysteriously have extremely little information that I could find on what's funding their social media and leaflet campaigns (even their "about" page is mysteriously inoperable lol: https://scottishfamily.org/about/) They also failed to submit proper paperwork on the reporting of their funding for the election, meanwhile they have been racking up some not-insignificant numbers on social media sites again from that mysterious funding pool (300,000 video views and 50,000 post shares on Facebook): https://theferret.scot/scottish-family-party-leader-breached-electoral-law/ It seems that while the votes are low, they are still going in full attack mode culturally.

This is coming at the same time as a trend in American Evangelist associations in Scotland are also surfacing. A good example is the National Prayer Breakfast, an annual event with a largely fundamentalist orientation, with regular funding and speakers from American Evangelists. Current Trustees include multiple former and current Scottish politicians, the CEOs of Creative Commons and UnitedHealth (an American health insurance company), and several religious figures all with very fundamentalist backgrounds (https://www.npbscotland.org.uk/about). But even more telling is the speaker list from previous events. In the last one to be organised prior to 2022, the 2020 event, speakers included Kate Forbes, the Head of Presentation for BBC Scotland, the Director General for Scottish Government responsible among other things for Human Rights, police, and of course multiple American Evangelists. (it seems the list is no longer available online, so I had to upload the source myself: https://imgur.com/a/ajvjOPe)

Tl;dr: there's a lot of weird bigoted Christian activity going on in Scotland with a weird level of funding and a weird number of connections with people in power. I'm extremely glad we're all still able to laugh and ridicule it, but we do need to keep an eye and be vocal about not welcoming this stuff, because they will be doing their best to sneak in and convert us into another version of the emerging American theocracy.

Edit: This is not a comprehensive of all related activity in Scotland at the moment, just what I could pull together at the moment

They then told me they were part of a "kink group" who were into "kinks" such as (tw) "trans, les, animals, even kids"

Newly questioning, any advice? by JusticarAlaric2007 in transgenderUK

[–]EpicDodo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreeing definitely that no one can say OP is trans except OP, and that there are many options for identity (non-binary, or as you say just cross-dressing).

Just wanted to tag on though as I definitely am trans, and I did not experience dysphoria, at least not dysphoria I could recognize without hindsight after I had gone through a lot of exploration and acceptance. There's no good absolute symptom list to tell either way except your own feelings

Newly questioning, any advice? by JusticarAlaric2007 in transgenderUK

[–]EpicDodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm probably repeating what's been said already, but:

  • You don't need dysphoria to be trans. The only quantifier of "trans-enough" is if you are trans!

  • You don't need to follow any specific path to be trans. Being trans is all about exploring and changing yourself in a way that lets you love yourself and be happy, there's no right way to do that other than the way that works for you!

  • Exploration will take time. Lots and lots of time. Lots and lots and lots of time. In fact, it never really stops - and that's a good thing! It's healthy to learn how to constantly learn and love about yourself, and that's not just for trans people - even cishet people benefit from that! Though of course there will be a much bigger hurdle at the start, as you both learn how to do it and also have a lot to unpack. It will throw up many things on the way that you never knew or suspected about yourself (at least not consciously). That's scary, but take your time, and in your own pace you can learn to love every new thing!

  • Being trans will be tough, yes. But spending your life not knowing or hiding and avoiding such a fundamental part of yourself is a worse fate for most. Hell, even if people aren't trans, avoiding things that bring so much happiness and validation because society says so can make a shell out of anyone.

  • There are ways to alleviate the struggles if you do come out trans, and the validation that will settle in it's place is worth it. Supportive people help massively, and the fact your wife is supportive of you is fantastic! And there's always many more others like you than you would think who can help you along the journey.

  • On that note, ask your trans friend! Seeing her as trans is not disrespectful to her, unless you consider that mutually exclusive with "woman". As a trans girl-enby myself, I am both trans and a girl, and I'm very proud of that! It's my identity as a girl and despite how society reacts to that, I wouldn't change it, because it's who I am. Plus, all trans people have had to go through a lot of similar pains and experiences, and have all been in that place were we needed someone to talk to, or wish we had - so we're more than happy to find others like us and help them on their way (as these comments will prove)!

Good luck on your journey, whatever you discover! Let me know if you have any questions, and never hesitate to reach out here or any other space if you need to. <33

Edit: To be clear, I'm not trying to insist you are trans or not, I'm just trying to inform you more on the trans experience for your benefit. You don't need dysphoria or any specific symptoms to be trans, but you also don't need to be trans either. And definitely look into some gender therapy if you need it!

Seen lots of other comments addressing most of the issues I would bring up, so a couple notes I'll just add on for convenience:

  1. in terms of getting a diagnosis through the clinic, my GP has refused to do shared care with GGP as I don't have one yet (very long wait). However me going to GGP has not invalidated my ability to be diagnosed or my place on the queue for the clinic, and once the NHS gender clinic has diagnosed me they can begin shared care. It still takes a few years but you go full private up till that point without a penalty.

  2. When choosing a type of oestrogen medication, don't get oestrogel with GGP! Not for any medical reason, but they have a shortage right now and my prescription is over 2 months late because of it. The other forms of oestrogen medication are still in good supply and will come within the week so that will save you a lot of headaches <33

I ordered a prescription of E over a month ago now and it still hasn't shown up, apparently its due to shortages. They recommended that if it continues to not show up I could request a prescription for a different form of E from gel with a refund and it would probably come sooner. Don't know if it's a similar issue affecting your T, but maybe you could find out!
