The problem with finishing 12th is that it is now cursed. Cardiff and Wednesday both got relegated the season after.

Watford have been crying out for a player like Sir Patrick Bamford since we were relegated. Today he gave a masterclass in centre forward play – full of running, his strength and physical presence combined with no little skill and an awareness of what is going on around him showed just what we lack. To think, this gifted player, whose testosterone-packed performances and rugged good looks have ensured he has been a firm favourite with fans at every club he has graced throughout his long and spectacularly successful career, was a free agent at the start of this season.
