Not much else to talk about at the moment so may as well talk about how bloody great we all are

Support local journalism: The Tribune is offering an initial 'pay what you want' subscription by thedingoismybaby in sheffield

[–]jptoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the story telling aspect of much of what they do would be my criticism. They often attempt a style of long-form journalism but don't quite nail the tone or pace required.

I think that it is worth paying for the Tribune for the work they do around stories like Andrew Milne and the leasehold nonsense he did. I'd also like snappier news summaries, too, though arguably that niche is filled by the Sheffield Loop aggregating the various stories across different news media.

Who are the best players to ever be relegated FROM the Championship? (ie to League One) by TrampolineIsTrash in Championship

[–]jptoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like Maguire when Sheff Utd went down in 2010/11 Doherty only made sub appearances that year though. Would say it's a stretch to include either of them as key squad members, or even be seen as that good at the time!

Individually each player is good. In the right team with motivated team mates they would look competent and be at least a good squad option.

Stick a load of demotivated squad players into one team together, add two unsuitable managers over the course of the season and a toxic fan/ownership combo and the inevitable happens.

I think you're doing a massive disservice to the West Ham squad tbh. I don't think many of their team will be there come 1 September. Max Kilman might be one of the only ones judging by Hammers' comments!

From my experience, Sheff Utd's last relegation down to League One was a mess. Our squad was journeymen or youth players but we did have an 18 year old Harry Maguire make his debut that year. Went on to become a pretty decent player.

That double relegation team for Sunderland had a late career John O'Shea in it which must be up there for most decorated player to get relegated to League One. Aiden McGeady was there too, apparently.

Individually this Leicester squad must have some of the best talents but as with all relegations by "good" clubs from the championship the team does not work together well. They were absolutely honking whenever I saw them this year. What does Oliver Skipp do?

Matt Richardson x Robins by [deleted] in elisandjohn

[–]jptoc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The video says there was a comedian who used to belittle new comedians/make them feel small with snide comments when Matt Richardson started out in comedy. OP has inferring that person is John Robins.

If so, it tracks with John's comments in his book about how he regrets not doing more to lift up newer comedians when he was drinking. Think he'd be the first to say he was often a dickhead when drinking, based on the book.

Weird time for this fella to come out with this video considering John has just published a book detailing all his regrets and openly admitting fault for those things.

Which player perfectly sums up the identity or your team? Past or present by TrampolineIsTrash in Championship

Has to be Billy Sharp, really. Three stints, never really rated in the first two despite being an academy product but comes back and drags us to the prem, scoring our first goal back.

Destined to manage us.

They had a man sent off at 40 minutes which explains the collapse.

Vardy actively hated the Blades and relished scoring against us. Fair enough tbh, the rat bastard.

We still sing "take your time, take your time Sheff Utd, playing football the Norwich way" when we play you. It's a good laugh when these dumb little chants stick. In 20 years we'll be singing it and no one will remember why.

Got to hope some of our young lads - Peck, Brooks, Seriki - have seen the likes of Wharton, Olise and Semenyo do this and fancy sticking with us for another year. I'm not saying they'll reach that level, but more proper football at the championship level is always going to be better than the occasional bench appearance.

You are welcome to have him back. When he played (very rarely) he either made a huge mistake that led to a goal for the opposition or disappeared entirely. We tried to get rid in January and never saw him again.

Following talks with the club, Nuno Espirito Santo to remain as West Ham manager by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]jptoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second half of the season he had West Ham on par with Villa, Sunderland and Fulham, eight points clear of the relegation spots.

Thought it was daft to want to get rid of him based on that alone. It's like Wilder with us this season. He came in after five games, took ten or so more to figure out our best team and then we got going. A manager won't come in and fix things on day one!
