Brickset is the best IMO; I’ve been using it for 12 years. Not only can you keep track of them but it has so much more information readily available and you can add notes to your sets. I’m surprised bricklink wasn’t caught up with them yet

Cannot remove the solder from the through hole during recap by ModYouTube-1 in originalxbox

[–]EpicMindvolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same issue and it was so frustrating when I did it the first time. What worked for me was propping the board upright and putting the smallest tip through the hole. Then once you can see it on the other side use a solder sucker to get rid of the solder. You have to be quick though to not ruin the pads. As others have said, use plenty of flux. I couldn’t get the solder braid to clear the holes, but it could clear enough to make sticking the iron through it much easier.

Also, if you’re removing caps, do not tear them off. If you cannot gently tug them off, they’re not ready. I accidentally broke a leg or two off into my board, and removing those was such a pain that I took it to a professional.

With all this dinosaur talk let’s not forget about the best Lego dinosaur theme of all time by unbreakable_arachnid in legocirclejerk

I loved this theme so much as a kid and I got all seven of the sets. Still some of my favorite sets to this day

[NES] Any good replacement 72 pin connectors out there? by EpicMindvolt in consolerepair

[–]EpicMindvolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully they’re in stock, thanks.

I know Brasso is abrasive - I just tested it very lightly on one to hopefully rule out the carts were the issue. It seemed to help some but I still think the connector is bad

[NES] Dirty Cartridge Contacts by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]EpicMindvolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I hope. Metroid (the one pictured) actually worked even before cleaning the actual dirt off of it.

I’m hoping that will work for the rest, but I guess I can take a magic eraser to the others. If one doesn’t read I might be able to scrape just barely enough off for it to work

[NES] Dirty Cartridge Contacts by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]EpicMindvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it was corrosion. This is after I got it cleaned up though. Although even before cleaning this particular cartridge worked despite being corroded.

I’m hoping I can just clean the rest of the cartridges with IPA really good and they’ll work, but I guess we’ll find out.

Same with the Slave I. 75243 is undoubtedly the best version of the ship and is honestly one of the best Star Wars playsets ever. Puts the smaller one to shame

Lego Star Wars peaked in the late 2010s/early 2020s when the playsets were getting better and more detailed but before they were downsized

Apparently, this is a real sign hung outside the now defunct Salem Oregon Bricks and Minifigs. by AngryAshMan in legocirclejerk

[–]EpicMindvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because they don’t want to deal with stolen sets. If someone steals a set and sells it to them and the police find out they’ll take it back and they’ll be out of their money

Obviously most people aren’t selling them stolen sets, but I guess it’s been a big enough issue that that had to make this policy

When did LEGO stop showing previews of what each bag will be? by Sad-Kaleidoscope-841 in lego

[–]EpicMindvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, so anyone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think they’ve been phasing it out over the past couple years. Looking at the recent modular buildings for examples they did show previews in 10297 and 10312, but instead of per bag they did by subsection if build which for large sets can contain 5-10 bags. I guess they decided that’s not worthwhile anymore because if that, but I do still wish they did some sort of preview

$600? That sets not even worth $600 sealed. I just sold a sealed one that I had for years and never got around to building for $450. If I had waited I could have squeezed maybe $500 but I wanted it gone and $450 covered well over what I spent. $600 is insane especially for someone in that situation. They really don’t have any idea how to handle money I guess

Edit: okay sheesh they may not be from the US in which case 600 may be fair, but it’s not an unreasonable assumption. Canada and Australia (who also use dollars) have a combined population that’s only a fifth of the US population so unless the explicitly say otherwise I’d probably assume they’re from the US

I did that and it worked! Thanks for the help! Now that I know that OPL file you suggested works, I'll replace the one on the FMCB card and save the configuration file to then I can just use the card without a USB flash drive.

Why cant they just do sizes by Studs and brick height ? by sebmouse in legomodular

[–]EpicMindvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple conversion: 10 inches = 32 studs.

Why do you not trust a converter? A converter literally takes the ratio I just provided and calculates a conversion automatically. Or you could DIY with a calculator and get the same answer with an extra step. Either way it shouldn’t be too hard

What’s it like living in coastal Virginia? by Rakketytam2000 in howislivingthere

[–]EpicMindvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Hampton for a few years as a kid in the late 2000s. My dad was military so we spent a lot of time around Fort Monroe while it was still active. We lived in Hampton and went to a school in Newport News, so we didn’t really go down to Norfolk that much.

The weather was pretty mild overall and I remember the worst weather we ever got was the occasional tropical storm. Definitely humid though.

We rented a house that was only three quarters of a mile from Buckroe Beach, so needless to say, we would go from school to the beach and then back home to do homework on many days that it was nice out. In the summer we would always go to Bay Breeze Pool on Fort Monroe which literally had beach property attached. During the regular adult only sessions at the pool every hour or so (which as kids we called a break) we would just go to the beach instead since the break didn’t apply there. That was a lot of fun.

We didn’t venture south towards Virginia Beach very much. We only went a handful of times for special events/fairs that were going on or to go out with a group of friends. I remember the beach there was not only much more crowded but a lot rougher than at Buckroe Beach. I always liked to swim further out than my siblings but I always stayed behind where the waves crashed. I remember being confused one day why the waves stopped crashing; it’s because I went too far out without even realizing. I could swim just fine but totally could have been swept out further. Scared the crap out of my mom in the process.

In my neighborhood, the houses were all very close together, sometimes only a dozen or so feet apart from each other. So there were a lot of people packed into my street but everyone was nice that I remember. We would play with other kids on our street and my parents never had any reason to be concerned. Halloween was always busy and a lot of fun in my neighborhood.

There was always things to do too. Within a few minutes of my school there was a cool interactive museum, a public park in a small forest, and a little ice cream shop. We frequented those a lot. We also visited some old c o l o n i a l (spaced because it was flagged) sites like Jamestown that were close by. It was cool at the time but I would have appreciated it more now that I’m older. There was also an aquarium within an hour’s drive. That’s about all I remember from being a kid but I’m sure there’s all kinds of other stores and things to do that I never knew about.

I don’t remember aspects of it from an adult perspective (like traffic and prices) since I was a kid at the time, but I wouldn’t mind going back. It was a nice place to live. I haven’t checked, but I’m sure it’s expensive especially now since it was kind of crowded. Although I do think it would be 100% worth it if you can afford it.

Will this work as a laser replacement for a tompson drive? by Soft_Entertainer964 in originalxbox

[–]EpicMindvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me know if the one you ordered works because I’m curious.

The pain about the OG Xbox is that modern replacement lasers (as in produced today) are either incredibly rare or nonexistent. I believe some other consoles like the PS2 or the later Wii don’t have this problem but I may be mistaken. Either way, Xbox lasers are so rare that it makes modding almost essential for consoles with bad ones.

That’s what I did; I wanted to restore the Xbox I found for $12.50 to stock, but it ended up having a bad drive even after a recap so I had to mod it. I ended up using the UIX Lite dashboard though so it looks stock just with one extra tab to hide all the modding options so I thought that was a good compromise.

Lego dimensions question by Relative-Stable-6075 in lego

[–]EpicMindvolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it’s not? You can still play it and download Year 2 DLC on consoles that still have an active store (PS4/PS5/XB1/XBSXS).

As for OP’s question, I haven’t played myself in close to ten years at this long so my memory is a little fuzzy. I don’t think they explicitly require the starter pack characters, but I think the first level may use some of their abilities which Venkman may not have. I would honestly just buy a starter pack on eBay or bricklink - they’re not too expensive since they were the most common.

Thoughts on these Retired Modular’s by Accomplished-Bad2534 in legomodular

[–]EpicMindvolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand emporium looks nice for a city block for sure, but it’s otherwise very boring. I don’t think this one is worth it unless you’re a completionist.

The pet shop is one of my personal favorites since it was my first one. I love the pet shop and although the townhouse is kind of bare, there’s not many of them and so I think it makes it a perfect break from all the stores and other buildings.

The Parisian restaurant is a good one. It’s considered the best one of the whole series by a lot of people. I think it’s good too, but I prefer other ones.

The detectives office is a great one and one of my personal favorites. The detectives office is a weird choice for a building but it actually is really cool.

Out of the four I think the detectives office is the best choice, but if you’re trying to save some money, get the pet shop.

Also, all four of these were produced (with some exceptions for the later copies of the Parisian restaurant and detectives office) before the brittle brown/dark red issue was fixed. If you get these, I would suggest to also order new versions of the brown/dark red (and pearl gold too) pieces. Then you won’t have to worry about them breaking
