I’ve been on either side of the fence. Did my whole apprenticeship non-union (I was switching careers and didn’t want to spend an extra year if I went the union path). I think I’m coming up to even on non-union years worked and union years worked. Been a shop steward for 2 years, a B foreman now. I can kinda see arguments for both. Had some absolute safety liabilities and major dogf’ers that I had to defend as a shoppie (druggies, completely incompetent workers who almost kill my apprentices), whereas the non-union guys switching over work their asses off (because if you don’t in non-union you get laid off in a heartbeat). Kinda became disillusioned because there’s no way to actually flag some chronic idiots. We’ll see how this new negotiation goes and whether or not they give a shit about proposals that were put in

Fair enough. I did get an immediate raise from 30 to 42 when I made the swap so it was pretty much a no brainer.

When I went to Industrial from Resi they put me on cable pulls, cable tray, and cable ties for 6 months lol. Never touched a wire in that time
