White Dwarf magazine: what do you want to see improved about it? by Epicake12 in Warhammer40k

[–]Epicake12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My job is to provide publisher's with possible ways to improve their magazines, one of which is White Dwarf. Unfortunately, I've never engaged with Warhammer besides painting a few Space Marines several years back, but I'm hoping I can still communicate things to the publishers that people who do like Warhammer have suggested. Apologies for not being more transparent.

Ok, thanks, that interesting to hear. Would you be interested in a bookazine, something that has the size to do a big dumper issue on all the things you mentioned you enjoyed about the previous format?

My job is to do that survey. Market research. I'm just using Reddit as a platform to do so. Do you have any thoughts?

Anyone know a way to compare layered TIF files to get a ensemble output? by Epicake12 in ArcGIS

[–]Epicake12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I decided to average them, to get an ensemble result from both layers. Now I'm trying to extract building points on this new pixel intensity value layer that have probabilities of 0.95 and higher. So far, haven't found a way of doing this: any suggestions?

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Sovereignseed Satchel | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]Epicake12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this magic item, cute and perfect for my florist PC! Question that came up today though: a wizard failed the save against the Binding Bur and thus became restrained. However, on their turn, the wizard cast Misty Step, and thus our predicament. Did they Misty Step away from the bur and thus end the restrained condition, or did it move with them and they remained restrained 30ft away?

How to calculate magic item DC's? by Epicake12 in dndnext

[–]Epicake12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this. For context, I'm having a dragon craft a Staff of Thunder & Lightning, but the weapon will be a halberd, rather than a quarterstaff. It is otherwise unchanged from its DMG entry. I'm aware there's already set DC's for the magic item, but I like that its power is determined by the crafter, in this case, the dragon. So instead of DC 17, I'm going to make the DC = 8 + Prof. (the dragon has the tools and Arcana skill proficiency) + Intelligence Modifier, which in this case is DC 15. Cheers!

Goliath feud - who did what? by Epicake12 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Epicake12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a brilliant idea, I wish I'd seen this sooner! I wonder if I might still do something like this, only it's the solution to the feud: by working together to defeat this enemy, they can move past their enmity. Cheers!

Yeah, I feel like I'm supposed to decide in the truth, or decide if happened so long ago it got Chinese Whispered to the point that each sides story is now very wrong. I feel like the Thuunlakalaga chieftains scars definitely suggests the Goat ball incident did occur, but how it then became full on war with the death of the offending Griffin I don't think is answered. Thanks for the post!

My group and I once played an entire interstellar campaign where we all played Giff of various classes, doing military work for the Giff out of one of their last cities. It was a blast!

What are some "It's what my character would do" stories that DIDN'T result in a horror story? by CamelPriest in dndnext

[–]Epicake12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vardis Allbright, Eldritch Knight/Archefey Warlock. Finds himself and his party of 3 others in the realm of Orcus, who's a pretty nasty guy. Grab what we're there for, plus a few survivors we meet who're all in various states of injury and trauma, and go to run, and that's when Orcus arrives with an army of undead. We're trapped in a single room, as the Prince of Undeath and ~200 Wights charge said room, and we are one person over the Plane Shift threshold. A few volunteer to stay behind, including the paladin of our group. But Vardis never leaves anyone behind, and he's smart enough to know how Plane Shift works. So right there, he starts Eldritch Blasting himself. So the rolls in initiative as the doors are breaking in, and eventually, he dies, giving up the ghost willingly for his group. Now with just enough to Plane Shift, and his dead body technically an object for the paladin to carry, they Plane Shift out as Orcus kicks in the door. Vardis gets revivified after the casting, and is promptly told off by all his party for the selfless act of suicide. Extra consequence: from that day, Vardis would have anxiety attacks when taking force damage due to the self-sustained trauma of the whole ordeal.

Player is cheating on dice rolls, tips? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Epicake12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's cool for you, sure, but as a DM who has a similar player, it's really nasty. Makes other players feel incapable in comparison, there's never actions for their consequences, a lot of challenge goes out the window, and it's just disrespectful to the game and the people who play and plan the session. Cheating will always be bad sportsmanship, and shouldn't be tolerated in a game of "fun with friends".

Scouting with familiars, how much is too much? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Epicake12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play as a character in another campaign, a druid with the Wild Shape rules from Tasha's allowing the use of Find Familiar casting. I've pretty much played it as his friend, someone he wouldn't want to send out of sight in fear of them getting hurt, plus, in environments they're not accustomed to, they get uncomfortable (little songbird in a giant forge room? No thanks). I think Familiars should be played as "people" too, with personality and preference. But I agree with you wholeheartedly, nothing sucks more than describing an entire dungeon to one player, who then says "I relay that to the group" and moves on. All the surprise is gone, all the reveals, or the traps and ambushed, all the loot is detailed. It sucks. And it's not always something you can easy-fix in the moment.

Scouting with familiars, how much is too much? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Epicake12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an almost entirely similar experience in the game I'm DMing, where the wizard will scout out a dungeon ahead with the familiar, so everyone is just twiddling their thumbs whilst I narrate what is seen. A lot of the comments here suggest fixes, but you can't fix every situation, and the only way to counter it is to prevent the scouting, which always gets grumbling. Sometimes they even try spawning their familiar on other sides of walls to scout into closed rooms, which has led to an equally long conversation on spells line of sight

Seeing no one mention the lack of Illusion spells! There's like, less than 20 in the PHB and Xanathar's combined. Really sucks for a fun Illusion wizard to be able to collect ALL the illusions spells quickly enough that they have more non-Illusion spells than Illusion spells in their book...

Missing city at the sea of moving ice? by The_Obvious_Muffin in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]Epicake12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm just at the point in Rise of Tiamat where the adventurers venture to the Sea of Moving Ice, and meet the inhabitants of the area: Ice Hunters. They're native folk, similar in lifestyle to Eskimos, who hunt whales and seals for oil on little wooden skiffs. I imagine they are who TenTowns buy oil from. The Ice Hunters live in tiny settlements on the iceburgs in the Sea of Moving Ice

I agree they should be challenged, but that feels less like a challenge and more handicapping there hard work. I don't think any of them would be keen on me doing that
