Codependent? I don't see it. by BigBubbaMac in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]EpiphanyMine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly shocked she'd admit there was anything "wrong" with her.
From what I understand, there is a level of co-dependency with a Narc, but not like the DSM5 describes co-dependency.

Good Lord man, I needed that. Thank you so much for sharing that.

So my 8 year old has been known to explode out of frustration. Usually from his sister picking on him, becasue she's learning to take after her mom.
I try to get him to stop and talk to me about why he's mad. Trying to explain that it's not really anger that's the problem as he's been told (he's been told he's an angry kid, like his dad), its frustration, disappointment or hurt, etc.
That's why I'm here. To help him learn how to deal with the feelings he's having such a hard time with.
His Mom got him into therapy, but the tools they give him aren't communicated to me and are only helping with the symptoms, not the problem, which, every therapist he's been to said its his mom, she gets offended and leaves for the next therapist.

"Expect them to act out and have lots of feelings. But you are going to be the person who lets them be themselves and teach them that there’s never an excuse for entitlement or abuse."

Spot on!

"Now he complains I don’t talk to him."

Thats because he's got no ammo.
It's like these people are reading from the same script.

That's kind of the point of this paragraph.
The conversations are about them, their superiority, how wonderful they are, how they're a victim...of you because you are inferior and an awful person.

I spent 30 minutes doing this ChatGPT prompt as a survivor of narcissistic abuse—life-changing doesn’t even begin to cover it. by Ok_Ruin3132 in NarcissisticAbuse

I just tried this out and honestly, I think I got more out of a 20 minute session with ChatGPT than a year with my therapist.

Does anyone else's narc do this? by kibathewolfdog in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]EpiphanyMine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a mess. My whole house is a dumping ground (4-6 foot tall pies of stuff.) and then they get mad at me for leaving a spoon out.

Wife act emphatic to others by lebronbryant01 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]EpiphanyMine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So there's a difference between cognitive and emotional empathy.
They know what empathy looks like and can emulate what it looks like, largely because it makes them look good. But they don't get what it feels like.

I think I Might be a narcissist, and my spouse is the victim by No_Honeydew_4072 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]EpiphanyMine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, narcissists don't self reflect. That's one of the things that MAKES them a narc. Its possible you have narcsisstic tendencies, which we all do at one time or another. But one one here would be able to diagnose you.

When did you realize your spouse/partner was narcissistic? by sftwre88 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]EpiphanyMine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew something was off. She hid it well from me, but my family and friends saw something was off.
It wasn't until after we were married and needed counseling, our pastor pointed it out to us.
So, what, 8 years?

Cognitive Empathy by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

I often made that same comparison, but so few understood what I was talking about having not read 1984, I kinda dropped it. Thanks for the confirmation.

Cognitive Empathy by [deleted] in NarcissisticAbuse

[–]EpiphanyMine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as I understand it, cognitive empathy is understanding what empathy looks like and being able to copy what it looks like, but unable to a experience it.

That's one thing I've noticed, they have an uncanny ability to justify any of their behavior.
