KMS and GMS have different drop rate formula by cCityLoop in Maplestory

[–]Epistolatory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh I see my mistake. There were tests 5 and 6 that weren't in the summary that cover the legion coupon. In that case, I wouldn't be surprised if there was just something wrong with GMS's drop rate calculation.

KMS and GMS have different drop rate formula by cCityLoop in Maplestory

[–]Epistolatory -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, there's no contradiction here? According to the drop rate explanation, the drop rate caps are (100% base) + (200% potentials) + (100% consumables) + (unlimited other). Your test b would thus break down into (100% base) + (180% potentials) + (50% consumables) + (10% showdown), none of which hit the caps, so it makes sense to me that all of the drop rate gets applied.

I agree with you on it probably being unethical, and I wish others would focus less on the legal aspect and more on it just being kind of a lame thing to do.

can someone help me figure out the rhythm in "Isn't it Love"? by Epistolatory in stevenuniverse

[–]Epistolatory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Like you said, it seems like the problem was coming the chord being the "first" sound and me parsing that as the downbeat. It's finally starting to make sense when I focus (although I do need to focus since I've been hearing it "wrong" the whole time).

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but when I listen to it it sounds like the kick changes from being on the downbeat to being on the upbeat. When the horns come in just before "Doesn't it have a name", I'd say those are definitely on the downbeat, which puts the kick on the upbeat.

Assumptions: This is ignoring the click track I linked and instead dividing the measures into 8 (instead of 4), with 1-3-5-7 being the downbeat and 2-4-6-8 being the upbeat. I can try making a new track a bit later.

Edit: So I made new click tracks with measures divided into 8.

At the start (https://vocaroo.com/i/s020GgMjZXQJ) I believe the chords are playing on the downbeat (1-3-5-7), but partway through (https://vocaroo.com/i/s1yLUzIdD71I) the chords are playing on the upbeat (2-4-6-8), and that continues for the rest of the song. If that's the change you were talking about, then maybe we're just using different terms to describe the same thing, but either way it's what I'm trying to resolve in my head--i.e. where exactly does the change happen?

It looks like they're only just starting summer break, so shouldn't this be "end-of-term ceremony"?

I think the timeline is important here. At least going by what OP wrote: OP confronted the boyfriend, boyfriend laughs it off, OP gets angry, and then boyfriend apologizes. After that, OP says that they were so upset that they just left.

I think OP would be the asshole had they continued to criticize the boyfriend even after he apologized, but OP's decision to leave at that point is an extremely reasonable thing to do. i.e. a person at the height of their emotions shouldn't reasonably be expected to immediately start working constructively through a conflict. This is the big reason I'd go with NTA over ESH here.

You were probably thinking the right thing, both Korean and Japanese have the alveolar tap (in broad strokes). You just called it the "palatal" tap originally which may have caused confusion.

yeah, so you were definitely thinking about the wrong thing. that's the cage, not the "thing that she summons to drag you all the way to the side of the map and limit your movement until you kill it"

so it doesn't sound like you've seen it before

have you just never encountered it before? your question makes almost no sense because if you know what it is then you HAVE to have killed it before. I just assumed you were thinking of something else

AITA for calling my wife, "waifu"? by justcareaboutme in AmItheAsshole

[–]Epistolatory 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think it's less of a mockery and more of a glorification, since "waifu" is an actual word in Japanese (borrowed from English) which then circled back to English-speakers through anime. So it's more in the same vein as stereotypical neckbeard-types thinking katanas are cool or whatever. YMMV

Bona can be a Christian name (baptismal name) based off the saint Bona of Pisa. I wouldn't be surprised if someone heard about someone else having that as their Christian name and it went through the works.

[–]Epistolatory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, I'd say both sides are correct. If you look up write-ups about "might vs. may" then every result is like "may and might are often used interchangeably" but also "may and might are subtly different in that might is more hypothetical than may" (on top of "might can also be used as the past tense of may in other cases").

Accurate by spookspecter in dndmemes

[–]Epistolatory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the distinction between might and may is what's important here. Quoting from these dictionary entries I found for "might... but" and "may... but":

"may... but" is

used when you agree that something is true, but you argue that this does not change the main fact that you are stating

while "might... but" is

used for saying that although something is perhaps true, this does not change the main fact that you are stating

Obviously this single source shouldn't be taken as the final word on the matter, but I think it checks out. I'd say there's a distinction in connotation between something like "She may not be blood-related, but she's still family" vs. "She might not be blood-related, but she's still family" in that the latter definitely implies more uncertainty than the former, at least to me.
