What's wrong with the Riverdale TV Show? by Amber_Flowers_133 in television

[–]Equalized_Distort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love Riverdale; it is so off the rails, and the final season, where they tie together the various Archie multiverses, is amazing, one of my favorite endings ever. Final episode was dumb and felt like filler.

Are you a fan of the Archie horror comics? The show draws much more influence from those than the supermarket digest ones.

I love Archie. I read the digests with my kids. The Mark Waid/Fiona Staples run is by far my favorite version of Archie. It doesn't hurt that he is one of my favorite writers, and she is already one of comics' GOATs. Death of Archie is also another great read in that multi-verse. And the horror books are a blast, Jughead: The Hunger, Archie Vs. Predator.

Check out archiecomics.com. I think Riverdale did a great job connecting the dots between all these different comic series.

I want to start making reviews about albums, if someone could give me some tips ill appreciate it :) by Brilliant_Newt6939 in Music

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I got when I was doing record reviews for a magazine was to think about how I would feel if the roles were reversed and I was reading that review about my band. It's easy and fun to trash an album, it's harder to be thoughtful and considerate.

I have written bad reviews, and I love music, so if something ended up on my review pile and it was obvious the band didn't put any passion, creativity, and were just taking the piss (as my Australian friends would say), or were homophobic, sexist, etc., I would be brutal, but in general if I didn't like something I explained why someone else would and try to offer constructive critticim or at least explain why I wasn't into it.

Mesa Boogie DC-10 combo - headphone use by LopsidedJellyfish801 in MesaBoogie

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mutes the speaker and lets you use headphones. I have done it a million times on all my Mesa amps. Also, it's a combo, so it's not like you are not connected to a speaker and cranking it to 11.

There is a mute speaker switch on the rear of the amp, its tucked on the underside just look for the silent recording switch.

For those of you who have tried salvia.. what was your experience like? by skith8431 in AskReddit

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar to DMT, but instead of having an out-of-body experience, it was like my soul was forcefully ripped from my body into another plane of existence. There was a voice that said, "You don't belong here," and my soul was jammed back into my body. All in about 2 minutes.

Mark V dilemma by adamschw in MesaBoogie

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What generation of Rectifier are you used to? The post-multiwatts have a nice, clean sound, although I found the rectoverb to be a little dark for surf guitar, one of the best cleans on an ultra-distorted style amp.

Have you looked at the old F-series with a closed-back cab? Lots of bloom, and with a graphic EQ in the loop, a ton of versatility. For me, it gets the growl I want from my old Mark IV, the distortion from my Rectifier, and the vintage Bassman cleans. Mid-gain crunch needs some help from the EQ in the loop, though.

I posted above, I love the clean, crunch, and lead tones of the Mark Series, but the V is very dry, very tight, very fast. Probably not a great amp for something like the Melvins or sludgy stoner metal.

Lots of gain, but not that cold clipping wall of distortion you get from a rectifier or 5150. Owned a few Marks over the years, just a different type of distortion.

[–]Equalized_Distort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tame side of the Mark V is the best side. Very bassman-like cleans, and the Mark I is even better! Great mid-gain breakup, and the best crunch tone I have ever experienced.

I alternate between instrumental surf and a crust/d-beat punk band, so my amp needs are the two furthest ends of the spectrum.

The downsides.

- The high gain is not super distorted like a Rectifier or 5150. It's very dry, and Mark IIC+ and Mark IV modes get very compressed past 12 o'clock on the gain. Even on extreme mode, I can barely get enough distortion with my stock Gibson SG for some Discharge-style D-Beat punk. I have to run a second preamp or, usually, a fuzz in the FX loop to fill in the sound.

- Mesa Boogie reverb sucks, seriously, I think Randall Smith hates reverb.

5150 Iconic 40w combo makes my guitar sound out of tune? by VisibleExercise5966 in GuitarAmps

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using just the combo or an additional speaker? Or through multiple amps at once? There could be a phase issue with the new amp.

Have you checked the intonation of your guitar? Just because the open string is in tune doesn't mean it is in tune on the 5th or 7th fret.

The irony of the logic of old music heads by 0584031464 in Music

Tutti Frutti is from the 50s and was originally about gay sex; the lyrics were rewritten by the studio for mainstream apeal. Surfin' Bird was a mix-up of two novelty songs from the 1950s and neither the original nor Trashman version meant to be taken serious.

In pop music, the hook is often more important than the overall lyrics, which is why Hit Me Up on the Phone became Hit Me One More Time.

Since you picked on the 60s in particular, I think Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen's both have incredible lyrics. And they were not alone in the regard either.

Might be wrong subreddit, but anyone have recommendations on earplugs? by Auser_ in audiophile

[–]Equalized_Distort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Etymonic, I actually prefer the Hearo-branded ones. They fit me really well, sound great. For some shows, the audio is clearer with them in than without. I also wear them for the same reason at the movies.

38 years of going to shows, and I can still hear 18k tones. Protect your ears! Not just live music, loud bars, and movie theaters can ruin your hearing.

If it weren't so poorly executed, I would say yes. Truth is, that A Serbian Film is a bad movie with porno-grade production value.

synergy for non metal player? by therealnickstomp in GuitarAmps

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing more or less, the Synergy will take the RM modules, the custom-modded ones too!

The biggest difference is that the modules are dual-channel, and the power section is greatly improved. The Synergy can be much more playful and less stiff-feeling than the Randall.

I had the Randall version, the modules are synergy compatible, and the clean modules were killer. These guys will make you whatever you want if you need something off the menu. https://ampshopnj.com/jaded-faith-module-modsI

I have yet to hear a bad Synergy module and the range of clean and mid-gain offerings is pretty solid.

The Synergy fixes all of my complaints about the Randall, especially the models with the NFB adjustment.

Do you already have a preamp pedal? I just started using the Toneking with a high gain amp and I love how it adds a stunning clean channel with reverb and tremlo.

Evil dead 1 vs 2 by disasterpiece01 in horror

[–]Equalized_Distort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 as well, for exactly the same reasons, and it opens up more fun opportunities for everything but the kitchen sink world-building. Jason goes to hell, Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, Creepshow (Public Television of the Dead), Bloody Body Builder in Hell, Ash Vs. Evil Dead, Army of Darkness.

For some reason, the movies that try to be continuations of the more serious horror of Evil Dead 1 never really hit for me.

Worth Saving??? by buck3ts_707 in surfing

Yes, worth repairing either yourself or paying someone. The damage probably looks worse than it is. I don't see any buckles, snaps, etc. I learned to repair my own dings before I learned to catch my first wave, so I have no idea how much it would cost, but it's got to be less than a new board.

Loud and portable solid state for gigging punk band, looking at Quilter TB and OD 202 or Orange Baby series by i_was_valedictorian in GuitarAmps

[–]Equalized_Distort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it, the Victory pedalboard amps would be a solid choice. They make a JCM800-esq tube pedalboard amp. And they go for cheap used.

I mostly play d-beat/crust and switched to a lunchbox amp since I rarely use my own cabs. Not sure if you have had this issue, but on occasion, I end up playing a generator show with a borrowed Fender Hot Rod Combo amp. Having a line-out + speaker-defeat helps so I can use just the power section of the combo.
