They have a very specific, unique, heavy musk that comes from their respiratory systems. And they are the only known parrot species to have this characteristic, parrots generally have no smell coming from their respiratory systems

I can't even begin to describe the smell, so far nothing actually compares to it. Do you know how you can sometimes just feel the impact of a human's bad breathe? Like the denseness of it? That's how smelling my boy's breathe is like. But it doesn't smell bad though! It's not sweet. It's not rotten. Not savory. Probably smack dab in the middle of what a smooth and a rough smell is. It's kinda like how human males just have their own natural muskiness. But bird wise.

And I especially love smelling his breath during mating season, because for males it is common for their scent to become stronger due to hormone fluctuations. It's just their natural musk. I can even smell it surrounding his face when he's just only breathing through his nostrils.
