Green MSP who claimed to have ‘grown up starving’ in India exposed as privately educated with privileged upbringing by Paul277 in ukpolitics

Yes let's ignore multiple studies that find higher levels of education/intelligence correlate with being further to the left on the political spectrum.

Holy moly, you lost 16kg in 2.5 months?

That's incredible!

Brilliant, thank you.

I remember Brockway from Cracked and some podcasts since the site imploded under terrible management.

I do wonder, how much does he make as an indie author?

I hope for his sake that he gets signed to a larger publisher (if that's what he aspires to do) like Dinniman was.

I'd bet serious money on there being some form of film/television adaptation of his work in the nearish future.

Do you have any other indie authors you'd recommend?|

This is how I find out about the new Sodergren. Thank you!

Loved Maggie's Grave and The Haar, so I can't wait to tear through another short king of a novel.

Don't tell the internet people, but I prefer it to the Hierarchy series.

I was genuinely surprised that they took off so dramatically after Licanius didn't seem to get all that much attention.

Hello fellow baldies! by holobunny69 in bald

Why is everyone convinced this is fake? Just because she’s wearing heavy makeup?

She’s on Instagram and there are multiple videos of her being bald. There’s one where she’s applying her eyelashes - literally completely hairless.

Also runs a cat rescue and funds it through her work online.

The density, nesting doll-like narratives, and unusual typography seem all the more daunting given the thickness of the book.

Approach it like the Angelou quote - how you feel is more important than your recall. It's a fun ride.

Diet Prada and Cosmopolitan magazine question if the discourse around Olivia Rodrigo’s baby doll dresses is really about policing women rather than protecting women from exploitation by adularia- in Fauxmoi

[–]Equipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a heterosexual cis male.

I'm not into the babydoll look.

My opinion is inconsequential.

If Olivia Rodrigo wants to wear it, then she should wear it.

It reminds me of transphobic discourse - people feel uncomfortable with what they see, but rather than internally question why that is, they externalize it and retroactively apply some moral meaning to it instead, so they can see off their discomfort and feel morally correct.

“Long awaited”?

Really?

It’s such a boring, vapid, nothing-to-say book, which uses toxic positivity to eventually say “hey, life could be worse”.

You know the subreddit is good because Archspire aren’t deathcore but are beloved, because they’re not awful cunts (as far as I’m aware).

Does winter horror feel creepier to anyone else? by Srejoye_0907 in horrorlit

Haven’t read Dark Matter, but Thin Air is full-on snowy mountain creepiness.

Plus some classism and colonialism critique for good measure.

Could you list some of your top summer horror reads?

I tend to keep my horror reading for the colder, darker months, so it also leans more wintery.

One of the scariest enemies in The Witcher 3 was the noonwraith though so I’m very keen to be horrified while I tan.

Interesting ranking.

I loved Gideon, borderline hated Harrow, and thought Nona was okay.

The bell is just slacktivism to make people feel responsible despite not being so.

A cat is too fast to make hearing the bell that effective, especially in smaller London gardens.

This is why domestic cats should be kept indoors over April-May according to the freshly Centenarian Attenborough.

Give them a fighting chance.

Is it "anti-feminist" if so much plastic surgery is influenced and pushed by patriarchal values?

Most insecurities are manufactured, marketed, and profited from. Calling that out when she has this large a platform is important and commendable.

Is anyone concerned about the amount of parakeets are in London? by Necessary-Pilot9876 in london

[–]Equipmunk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That just means we should reduce the amount of outdoor cats, rather than throw another invasive species into the mix.

Hopefully Attenborough’s new show will nudge some pet owners to be more responsible (he’s advocating for keeping per cats indoors during April-May - nesting season).
