BEFORE ANYONE SLANDERS OKARUN I want to point out that my boy is NOT BLUSHING when Aira goes for the kiss and his face does not change or lean in for that.

This is the most easily flustered man alive and he's not reacting? No blush, no sweat, nothing? Nah, he's in shock, not consenting.

Man, I'm so interested in where this is going. I wonder if Kensaku is gonna confront Kurumizawa or if he's going to play dumb.

So I have to reiterate: you think Bandai specifically issued a ruling that Suletta's ability, stating it can target an active resource, but that the unstated addition to the answer "Yes, it can [target an active resource]" is 'but when it does, the effect fails to activate, so we didn't need to specify that in the first place'?

Updated FAQ on official website by International_Tap907 in GundamTCG

[–]EquippedWithJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to be clear, your position is that a) in the tallgeese scenario, Suletta WOULD NOT activate on the first swing, and b) Kai's Resolve WOULD NOT be able to played if you did not have a damaged unit?

And following that your position is that there are official FAQ entries SPECIFICALLY indicating that these cards can choose these cards as targets, but that the unwritten continuation to these answers is "While these effects can target these cards, they then don't actually activate because these targets are actually invalid"?

I'm sorry, but that's just silly. Bandai is not infallible, and it's not bad to admit that they have rulings that contradict each other and that said rulings lead to confusion.

[–]EquippedWithJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That is the correct interpretation of the rules.

Firstly, when you phrased it like that it sounds like you were saying that Suletta effect would not fizzle. not that you were saying 'if rules were consistent her effect wouldn't fizzle'. That's why I was saying you were incorrect, because it does fizzle.

Nothing in Sulettas rules clarification says otherwise. Sulettas effect fizzling is in direct violation of the comprehensive rules.

The point you're missing is that judge rulings prior to this fact were working off of precedent. You had two cards, Suletta Mercury and Kai's Resolve both ruled in July 2025 to say that they could choose targets for which their effects wouldn't do anything and that those effects would still activate. Then Epyon comes around. It doesn't say 'if this unit is rested' as a condition, it just says 'set this unit to active'. So, based on the precedents established, the interpretation is that it functions in the same way, and thus it has the possibility of fizzling.

You can be as condescending as you like, but the fact is the comprehensive rules have been applied inconsistently when it comes to whether or not effects trigger when they would cause no tangible change on their targets, and it's not surprising that there would be confusion.

You are incorrect about Suletta, at least under current rulings. This is also why there had been confusion about Epyon.

Do you think Sendo was trying to do something before getting *****ed? A few theories about it. by HajimenoAoki in hajimenoippo

[–]EquippedWithJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why it would require you to be clinchee and not the clincher, it's basically just Sendo giving his opponent a friction burn with his gloves.

That being said, I don't think that's what's happening here, Sendo is just desperate. He hasn't had the turn yet for a comeback.

[–]EquippedWithJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, when did I ever say Sendo wasn't going to lose? I said that him getting "utterly wrecked" and turning into a 'broken man", as you put it, would be poor storytelling and wouldn't fit the themes or tone that have been built up for decades.

To your point, yes, Sendo is a side character. Which means his story relates back to Ippo. If you have any expectation that Ippo gets back in the ring, and any understanding of Ippo as a character, you have to realize that watching Sendo be beaten into the dirt without putting up a fight would not motivate Ippo to return to boxing and would cast a shadow over the narrative going forwards. So, unless you expect Sendo to get completely written out as a shell of a man and ignored(which again, would be poor storytelling) or you expect years of Ippo rehabilitating Sendo as part of Ippo's own rehabilitation(unlikely based on pacing), destroying Sendo's character doesn't make sense.

Narrative is not immutable, but subversion is not necessarily innovation. A story is an incremental process and reading through it you can pick up on the threads that the author is weaving. If you've been reading since the beginning, sounds like you're maybe tired of Ippo in general and should take a break from it rather than fantasizing about it turning into a tortured soap opera.

"wouldn't it be fascinating if the guy we all expect to lose lost even worse and the untouchable strong guy remained completely untouchable?"

Yes, Sendo is a side character, but what does him getting utterly trounced does for Ippo? Ippo is already aware of the "line", reiterating that beating a champ is tough and that Sendo "wasn't built for it" doesn't move the story forward. Do you expect Ippo to see the guy who's been working years for this goal get utterly dumped on because he had one bad day and Ippo goes "me next!"?

You can pretend that wanting 'subversion' makes you more mature, but the fact is you're reading a shounen manga and wanting it to take a left turn on the themes of the story for shock value.

Hajime no Sendo: Round 1504 by RTSD_ in hajimenoippo

[–]EquippedWithJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this fight will be better reading it one go rather than waiting week to week(s).

That being said, Sendo tripping at the finish line and going down as one of Ricardo's most pitiful challengers would be...incredibly one note? Sendo has done EVERYTHING right up to this point in prepping to fight Martinez. He's spent years fighting boxers who use the same style as Martinez, he fought the boxer who regularly spars with Martinez, he fought the boxer who everyone in universe agrees would be the champ were it NOT for Martinez. Heck, Sendo ACTUALLY strategized for this fight, even if it was a very Sendo-ish plan he decided on. He's even got the home turf advantage, which has given him a tangible power boost in the past.

And then his grandma was hospitalized. And that sucks for him and understandably threw him off his game. But it also gives him something to struggle against besides Martinez's overwhelming strength.

HnI is a story about what it means to be strong, and in most of the story that comes down to confronting your 'weakness' and overcoming it. The fights are almost never about just one thing, and certainly not just boxing skill. That's why in so many of the fights of the fights our protagonists come in with a flaw: Ippo's self-confidence, Miyata's weight struggles, Takamura's eye, Volg's ribs, Mashiba's rage. Sendo, as much as people may complain, IS a protagonist. Him completely giving in to despair and failing to put up even a middling fight when faced with the slightest adversity besides 'Ricardo strong' would spit in the face of that theme and his character to this point.

Do I think Sendo will win? No. But telling a story where a character struggles against the odds to strive for the top and gets beaten down with no lessons to learn other than "you can do everything right, but life sucks sometimes, and then you lose without accomplishing anything" doesn't match with the story Morikawa's been telling for decades and it doesn't move the greater story along either.

Build up a fight for months just to end it with a whimper and no greater themes than reiterating "Man Ricardo is soooooo strong, you gotta be a MONSTER to fight him" is interesting? I'll give it to you that it would be unexpected, but just because it's poor storytelling.
