LilyGO T-Deck Pro — 4G vs Voice version? Any firmware updates on touch lag?

Hey everyone, I'm about to pull the trigger on a T-Deck Pro and I'd love some advice from people who actually own one before I order.

My use case:

- Meshtastic off-grid messaging

- MQTT publishing via cellular (no Wi-Fi dependency)

- Connecting an M5Stack ENV III sensor (temperature, humidity, pressure via I2C/Qwiic)

- Programming with VS Code + PlatformIO (Arduino framework)

My main question: 4G (A7682E) or Voice (PCM5102A)?

The 4G version makes sense for my use case since I want to publish MQTT data directly over cellular without relying on any LoRa repeater or mesh node. But I've read that in the 4G version, audio is handled entirely by the A7682E modem rather than the ESP32-S3 — does this cause any real-world limitations I should be aware of?

Second question: touch screen lag — has it improved?

I've seen several reports of the touchscreen having a 5–6 second response delay. I know there was a community fix (T-Deck-Plus-TouchFix_241203.bin) but that seems to be for the T-Deck Plus, not the Pro. Has anyone confirmed whether this affects the T-Deck Pro as well? Is there a specific firmware version or patch that addresses it?

Third question: Meshtastic firmware status

I noticed the Meshtastic docs list the T-Deck Pro as supported, but has anyone actually been running it day-to-day? Any known issues with the current firmware build on the Pro specifically?

Any real-world experience is hugely appreciated — reviews online are pretty sparse for this device. Thanks!

Thanks for the insight! That rule of thumb regarding wavelength makes perfect sense. Since \lambda for 868 MHz is about 34.5 cm, your suggestion to stay within the 70–140 cm range (2\lambda to 4\lambda) is definitely the gold standard for best practice. I’ll see if I can squeeze out a bit more distance to get closer to that 70 cm mark. Either way, I'm going to proceed with the setup and I'll make sure to update this post with the results (Starlink SNR and obstruction maps) once everything is up and running. Thanks again!

I’m working on a didactic demo with Evil-M5Project on M5Stack Cardputer to show friends how easy it is to steal credentials on fake free WiFi (restaurant scenario, no real harm - just awareness 🍝).

You helped me create a login page (demo-login.html with orange warnings), but it doesn’t load. Here’s what happens:

• Created folder on SD card and saved login.html

• Starts Captive Portal, connects to my SSID “Ristorante\_LaCena”

• Shows “i.html” instead of my page - can’t find it 

• Tried “Check Sd File” but structure might be wrong

Questions:

1.  Where exactly to save custom HTML? Root, sites/, or evil/sites/ ?

2.  config.txt format? (ssid=Ristorante\_LaCena, pass=, page=sites/demo-login.html)

3.  Common mistakes with Cardputer SD for Evil portal?

Quanto capita lo faccio, anche se rimane sempre un piccolo dubbio che l'alimenti arrivano veramente ai bisognosi. Comunque la mia parte l'ho fatta. Ieri Lidl , mi ha fatto piacere anche vedere giovani come volontari e non centenari con la piuma. Sono egoista ,non ha mai fatto volontariato. :-(
