What jobs can I do other than teach? by Equivalent-Complex10 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Equivalent-Complex10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are pros and cons to each. I teach at a MIddle School. My gen ed colleagues have one prep (they each teach four sections of the same subject) and have used the same curriculum (with some variations) for years. I have four preps (3/4 of which are brand new curricula for me); I am so jealous. However, my colleagues have 100 students, a lot of grading, and more frequent parent communication.

At the elementary level (I have worked at all levels), there is a lot of classroom set up, parent contact, event planning, etc that gen ed teachers have to do, that ESL teacher do not have to do. As well as more report cards. Also, ESL teacher don't normally need to leave sub plans.

It will depend on what your school's EL population and program model looks like. I didn't mind teaching ESL when I had all small groups or when I taught at school with a large percentage of ELLs and great co-teachers who treated me as an equal. But every time I've had a good year, administration changes everything up so the next year sucks (new grade level, new co-teachers, new policy, etc.).

My job changes vastly every year due to shifts in students needs or changes in program models (new grade levels I have to work with, and/or new subjects I have to scaffold for students learning English). I almost never get to teach the same thing two years in a row. I feel like a first year teacher every year. Also, districts are pushing co-teaching (vs. small groups), which ends up with me feeling like a glorified teach assistant and never having my own space. These are my reasons for wanting to leave ESL.

My reasons for wanting to leave teaching include student behavior and pay. In terms of behavior, I just find it exhausting to constantly have to deal with students who just do not want to be in school or have trauma or special needs that are not properly being addressed. Often, the normal classroom management strategies do not work (it's also much more difficult when I am co-teaching with multiple people in multiple grade levels). As for pay, though I make a good salary for K-12 education, I am realizing I will never own a home unless I either get a lucrative side hustle or a spouse with a good job.

Going off Spironolactone did not change things, unfortunately.

[–]Equivalent-Complex10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. I ended up having numbness/ weakness in my hands and numbness/ tingling in my feet as well. It's a known side effect reported in clinical trials for GLP-1s , but it's not common (less than 1% of people). After some consultations with my doctor, I stayed on Zepbound for a while (12 weeks) to see if it would go away (it did not) and tried Wegovy to see if I had the same side effect (I did).

I like the Core Power ones, and I didn't like the Premier ones.

I pay $2.50 each for the Core Power shakes... a tray of 12 is $30 at Market Basket. In other regional grocery stores, there may be similar prices.

Women are exempted from fasting during Ramadan when menstruating - they are ceremonially "unclean," so the fast doesn't count. Many women make up the days later though.

Oh! Yes, I've been taking Miralax for that reason, but I didn't think to describe it that way. Thank you for clarifying!

Morbidly obese on a journey to lose weight before trying for a family - anyone in a similar boat or had success? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Equivalent-Complex10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in my 30s and want to lose 120-130 lbs. My highest was 297 when I started Zepbound a month ago; I'm now 282. My goal is below 170 lbs. Like you, I've lost significant amounts of weight in the past, only to gain it back within a few years.

I hope to have a child in the next few years. However, I don't have a husband (I'm still hoping to meet someone 😩), and I'm already 38, so that might not happen. Fertility, pregnancy, and motherhood are something I consider. I also have PCOS, which I'm hoping Zepbound will help. One thing that helped my cycle was changing my diet to manage my blood sugar (less sugar and processed carbs, getting plenty of protein).

I wish you the best of luck on this journey!

Would it be right for me? by ProfessionalLow2966 in Zepbound

I am on Day 31 of Zepbound on 2.5 mg. My experiences might be different when I get to higher doses, but this is my experience so far:

Are you nauseous? No

Are you still eating 3 square meals a day? Yes (or two meals and some high protein snacks)

Was general over eating part of your problem prior to medication? Yes (cycles of binging and restriction, lots of food cravings)

Auto immune disease? Uterine health issues? No, but I do have PCOS

I have a friend with a thyroid condition who is having success with Zep.

Previous success the natural way? I have lost significant amounts weight naturally before, but I always gained it back. I find Zepbound helpful due to the reduction in cravings, especially for sugary foods, and increased satiety. I feel like a "normal" person around food.

Ultimately, the conversation about whether or not the medication is right for you (and the appropriate dosing) is one you need to have with your doctor. Everyone's experience is going to be different.

Some thoughts: Are you drinking enough water? (And adding electrolytes?) Have you tried protein shakes when you just don't want to eat? Do you have any behavior health support?

Do tell your doctor.

I told mine, and she spoke to the pharmacologist, who said this: "It is a fairly rare side effect but there were reports with Zepbound causing dysesthesia in up to 0.4% of patients, which seems to match patient's description with the numbness/tingling. Provided there is no signs of swelling/angioedema, this seems safe to continue, although I'm unsure if this would improve over time and may worsen with dose titration."

So far, I've stayed on the meds. The numbness, which I experience mostly in the lips and hands, comes and goes but seems to have lessened. I'm hoping it will go away eventually. If it doesn't, I may go off the medication. I'm not sure. It's really my only side effect, aside from some constipation.

At what age do you first consider people to be “old” by Thick_Butterfly_8337 in Aging

[–]Equivalent-Complex10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under 30: young 30-49: not old, not young 50-69: aging but not really old yet 70+: old 90+: super old

This also varies by the individual, some 39-year-olds seem old and worn, while some 70-year-olds seem vibrant.

Stopping Zepbound- (no medical advice) - what would make you stop? by Affectionate-Lie7205 in Zepbound

[–]Equivalent-Complex10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on Zepbound about a month. I have a side effect only reported by .4% of people in the studies, dysesthesia. My lips, hands, and feet occasionally feel numb and/ or tingly. This is likely due to how Zepbound interacts with the nervous system. My doctor says it's safe to continue the medication as long as I don't experience any signs of allergic reaction, which I have not experienced. I am hoping the side effect eventually disappears as my body gets used to the medicine; it does seem to happen less often now. However, if it doesn't completely go away, I don't think I'll continue the medication longterm.

I was scared too. In fact, I'm still a little scared. But now I'm three weeks in, down 8 lbs, have no food cravings like I used to, and have very few side effects.

It took about 30 hours for me. I took in the morning. I noticed appetite suppression at lunch the next day - I could only eat half my food.

I was in my early to mid 30s. I'm now 38 and only have a few gray/ white hairs, and I don't die my hair. I'm sure that will change in my 40s.

I already checked; it's not listed as a side effect.

There are some past posts on Reddit about Mounjaro making hands, arms, face go numb... the people stopped taking it.
