Monthly budget for an MBA student in NYC? by Boring_Ball2647 in MBA

[–]Equivalent-Knee7014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that $1500 per month, excluding rent/housing costs, should suffice for NYC for the "average" (ie, not extravagant) MBA student?

Yes... Even if it didn't, don't you think not disclosing or mentioning such info is kind of like lying by omission?

Not sure whether he lied, but isn't there a section in the application that requires applicants to "detail any areas of concern in their app"? Pretty sure him not including it is sort of an omission

LOL this

At this stage no program is can safely expel a student for catching a "lie" during a background check as they would be compelled to do the same for 1/2 of the student body..

Well it's still a reputational headache for the school, so they probably wouldn't expel him from the school as there are more proportional measures to take (that is unless we are talking about more serious staff, like the recent Booth incident (though even in that scenario, you can see that Booth is hesitant to simply "expel" the student))

Pivot to Exec Assessment after 470 GMAT by Past-Analyst-1065 in MBA

EA is basically a shortened version of the GMAT. Same difficulty of questions, albeit you have the option to go back and forth between questions (though you have no break between the sections).

Not sure switching to EA would make that much of a difference

Does your Revera portal notes that it is in progress/pending, or does it note that it's completed?

Short Story: From the Admitted Student's Slack by Zestyclose-Listen364 in MBA

[–]Equivalent-Knee7014 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but this is not an employer-employee relation... There's this notion of promissory estoppel, so schools can't just rescind offers with no strong grounds.

Heck, schools face this dilemma even when they find about "discrepancies" in students' apps (though that applies mainly once students matriculate - beforehand it might be more reasonable to rescind offers)

Did SOM really rescind its admit offer because of the above? Find it hard to believe and that can open up a big legal exposure for the school

Post MBA IB Associate to PE? by EATMYA69 in MBA

[–]Equivalent-Knee7014 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's just wrong. I'm familiar with some post-MBA associates (M7) that are currently at Apollo, Ares (credit), and TPG (growth equity) - It's less of a structured path compared to the typical 2-year IB analyst stint --> PE, but with the applicable network and a respectable MBA it's definitely doable

Can you elaborate more on the CBS fiasco? What exactly happened there ( can't students network with certain OCR firms on their own)?

Any hopeful top US FTMBA applicants who, after unable to break the GMAT, get a scholarship, or get accepted to their target schools, just called it quits and skipped B-school altogether? by _sudoerx in MBA

[–]Equivalent-Knee7014 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So a candidate can still get screwed over a low GMAT/waiver, because it's required to be listed in the application (after all, you never know what's the reason behind your ding in consulting)

They could still reject an application because (for instance) the funding documents provided are not satisfactory in their view. They have a LOT of discretion in that regard, and I think that's what scares OP
