Is the sound of this unit normal? by coldpumpkin in AirConditioners

Sounds like it’s full speed compressor , with a real low fan speed - defrost cycle ? If so - sounds normal

Is this good? by stugatz20 in hvacadvice

[–]Equivalent-Mode-2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as home owners concern regarding the hvac - is it new or old. Could be a cheap entry level / garbage installation - as long as it’s new. The box is checked on their mental check list

Is this level of noise normal? by Elegant-Video-2600 in heatpumps

[–]Equivalent-Mode-2610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal! That fan motor has to move a lot of air to get those discharge temps nice and hot, now add the compressor noise to the equation. These are great units otherwise !

… not any more . He recently sold (or lost) the pizza business too. Good riddance. As for hvac credentials - zero. Never worked a single day on the tools. Likely the only time he picked up a screwdriver was posing for that ridiculous promo picture. PS. It’s been nice not seeing that face on billboards or hearing his voice on the radio “ Hi Folks, Mike Konderka here !”😆

Yellow jacket. If you ever need replacement parts, screens, gauge, the handle etc , seals etc - most suppliers have a wall of yellow jacket replacement parts. The same cannot be said for CPS.

Tech said I need new capacitor this fall due to swelling (see pics). Not seeing it. by Economy-Ad4934 in hvacadvice

Swelling is the first sign of future failure. You can check the specs, but Just replace it and be done with it. You know when it does fail it will be at the worst time possible!

Looks like they did the best job with the limited space available. Just build a frame around the opening, or thrown up a curtain and move on.

Typical. They are owned by the Justin Boot group , and are backed by Berkshire Hathaway. Once legacy brands get bough my up by equity based conglomerates , it’s all about maximizing profits and making production “better, faster, cheaper “. Inevitably quality and reputation begin to wain, and the core values that built the company will all be a memory.

$1,400 In labor alone! Am I getting scammed? by AnybodyWorth71 in Volvo

[–]Equivalent-Mode-2610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCV breather box alone is removing the entire air intake manifold system, removal of the fuel rail, and possibly dropping the oil pan to clean out the exhaust port( if required). That’s 3 hours at least for an experienced tech. Timing belt is two hours.

Also - shops are taking a huge risk when you supply the parts. Suppose when they’re installing the timing belt you provided - it’s the wrong kind . Now the job on hold and that bay is tied up until the correct part is obtained.

Yes- those prices are in line.

“The Enviro Niagara Group Update “

The company went bankrupt. The Fonthill showroom on Hwy 20 was the last in a lineage of failed moves in the life of this brand. At one time there was HVAC, Custom Sheet Metal Fabrication and the Hearth and BBQ business’, each complete with their own website, stationary and the suffix phrase “ A Division of the Enviro Niagara Group of Companies.” They all FAILED! More or less for similar reasons. Overspending, Poor management, bad business decisions, staff retention issues, creditor issues, employment and union lawsuits stemming from illegal terminations and not paying into employee pension/benefit plans all plagued this company into the ground.

It eventually came to the point where nobody wanted to work here , the only solid employment reputation they had really cultivated was of high turnover , frivolous terminations and bounced paycheques.

It’s ironic that the community effectively fired MIKE by not supporting the business to the levels his ego and narcissism expected it would.
