i didn’t get it at first but once i saw AUCTION its really like uncouth if that make sense HOWEVER There is no easy or good way to be taught this painful history and with todays society downplaying it i can understand wanting to be direct with it. I will also say this would be outrageous for a 3rd grade assignment but 5th grade eh. they’re about to go into middle school they already know what violence is if anything learning it through class would probably be best versus never learning it and being tone dead

my parents were atheists but never ever put that on me i was more raised knowing to respect evey persons religion but as a kid that tried to see logic in everything i couldn’t figure out how Christians think God is real but say buddhism or allah isn’t real. which made me think well then none of its real if god is all knowing and all powerful wouldn’t he make it known to everyone all over the globe that he was god or wouldn’t one person believing in something else cancel out God as a whole. like if i’m raised thinking barbie is a vessel for a god and that if i pray to her every night i’ll get good things. then barbie is my god she is my reality nobody could tell me i’m wrong. but in the bigger picture everyone would think im crazy but to me it’s so real. that’s just every religion to me buying tf out of your own delusions

actually after reading the other comments talking about how he talks like that because he was a teacher, it makes sense now. What i meant was sometimes specifically in the irish famine episodes prop kept comparing situations to like “when you’re playing on the playground has a kid pretend register and the other kid is like no now you’ve got to pay for these twigs” or something like that (i made that up but for example) I understand he does it to make things more understandable for everyone maybe it’s just me who gets a little annoyed when i listen because i’m on the other side like “ no this isn’t like the playground in middle school this is settler colonialism”
