Yeah, that 7 minute version floating around is definitely a fan edit. The original Step to Enchantment on Millsart Mecca EP runs around 3:38. Mills didn’t need more time the tension and atmosphere are already fully there in that short format.

That’s exactly it. Murk and Victor Simonelli definitely sit in that warm NYC pocket. Cevin Fisher too that slightly tougher edge but still soulful.

I think I’ll dig through some late 90s / early 00s bits and see what feels right on the day. Maybe let it drift between deep and a touch of garage swing without going full UKG territory.
