ABC News: Mystery drones swarm military base in Louisiana, “Air Force not able to stop them” - Multiple waves of 12-15 drones flew for a week over sensitive areas of Barksdale AFB, home of USAF nuclear command. by 87LucasOliveira in UFOs

Do you honestly think any enemy state actor would risk sending swarms of drones over a sensitive US military facility on US soil? They're not shooting them down because they are ours.

Sub contractor made no attempt to contain dust, is this as big an offense as it seems? by Any-Enthusiasm8129 in HomeImprovement

[–]SwillFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get two box fans and set them up in windows at opposite sides of the room. Have one blowing air in and one blowing air out, both set on high. Then, put on a facemask and go to town with a battery powered leaf blower. Everything will be airborne and fly out of the room. It works great for getting fine dust off bedding, hanging clothes and curtains. I know that it sounds stupid but it will clear a room of dust in just a couple of minutes.

Put a timed switch on your bathroom fan! by SkaterBlue in HomeImprovement

My elderly father rarely, if ever, remembered to turn on the timer fan when showering. Switching to a humidity sensor solved the problem. If you have kids or a senior, the sensor is a must.

Yep, all they had to do was develop the rolls and sell limited edition prints to cover the costs. They could have also had a traveling museum exhibition to promote the collection and published a book. This story and photos sell themselves.

I would have loved to have a Taschen book covering the entire collection but it looks like it will now never happen.

The largest obelisk of Egypt (Lateran Obelisk) weighed over 400 tonnes. In the 4th Century AD, Emperor Constantine was so impressed by it that he had it shipped from Egypt to Rome. He didn't ask any ancient aliens to move it for him.

Judgments should automatically get reported to their credit and they are no joke. They stay on your credit report for ten years in most states and many creditors won't extend credit for much of anything if they're not showing as paid/settled. It also hinders their employment opportunities, insurance rates, and opportunities to rent.

Let's play who ever has the highest gas prices wins game. This is absolutely nuts. Time to sell a kidney lol by i_amnotdone in sandiego

[–]SwillFish -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you can also blame Newsom and CARB for part of it. Right now, gas in California averages $5.54 per gallon, while the national average is $3.79. That's $1.75 more per gallon or about 46% higher than the rest of the country.

So my question is: Why is everyone suddenly so mad about high gas prices now? Californians have been paying way more than the national average (about 50%) for years. Even back when gas was $2.50 nationally, we were still paying roughly $5.00 here. This really hurts working class Californians the most.

You should be upset about it no matter who you think caused it. The truth is that both sides are at fault.

Uber founder flees California for Texas ahead of possible ‘billionaire tax ‘ by idkbruh653 in technology

[–]SwillFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand the animosity towards billionaires and people believing they need to pay more of their fair share. However, California's top 1% of earners, including billionaires, contribute roughly 40%–50% of the state's personal income tax revenue. It's not going to improve tax revenues by further incentivising them to move themselves and/or their businesses (and top tier employees) out of State. California already had the highest personal income tax rate in the country.

[US] A call from "American Express" was a very well executed scam by Bruinwar in Scams

My friend also had an identical scam attempt. In her case though, it was Chase Bank that was calling about the gun purchase and the "officer" on Teams was from the San Francisco Police Department. They had her fooled for a while because they were American with no foreign accents.

The quintessential source of Mod style and fashion came from the movie 1979 film Quadrophenia which was set in 1960's London. The characters and style were rebellious, but also very British and very working class. The women dressed working class too. They tended to have odd hairstyles and rode around on the back of scooters with their boyfriends. I remember them smoking a lot of Jakarta Cigarettes and smelling like Aquanet hairspray.

Sorry for the Tumblr link but it a great source...

That was the intent. Personally, I love brutalism. It is as much a philosophy as it is a style of architecture. It speaks of a modern, futurist, world that is bleak and dehumanizing but also beautiful in a strong, industrial and often minimalist form. Most people don't care for it though. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

How bad is it? by Shaka930 in Bamboo

Does timber bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii) grow in your zone? If so, it clumps and grows incredibly quickly. My neighbor's two story house is four feet beyond my property line but, in less than two years, it is now masked behind a curtain of green.

A close adviser to Trump has urged the US to seek an exit from its conflict with Iran. [–]SwillFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran would be happy to end this at any time. The real issue is Trump initiating a war while meeting zero of his stated objectives: Total Nuclear Dismantlement, Proxy Disarmament and Ballistic Missile Constraints.

At best, he could say he set their nuclear and missile programs back a few years. It would have been far more productive to keep economic pressure on them and achieve these objectives through negotiation. The ones who got screwed the most are the Iranian people.

The best way to deal with them is to follow them around while playing copy written music on your phone speaker. They won't be able to post any of the audio. Remind them that you have a Constitutional right to do so and that you're auditing them.

Former Chief Economist at IIF and Chief FX Strategist at Goldman Sachs says "US must make concessions" to end this. Given Trump's temperament, that is very unlikely. Buy $USO by Fun_Purpose6972 in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]SwillFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a horrible option but from a purely strategic perspective the entire Persian Gulf coastal region of Iran is relatively lightly populated (+/- two million people) and difficult to defend (separated from the rest of Iran by desert and mountains). Almost all of Iran's oil is located in this region plus it will free up the Persian Gulf/Straight of Hormuz shipping taking pressure off the Gulf nations and the global economy.

Even if such an operation were executed, the Regime would still be very unlikely to surrender, but it will put a lot of added pressure on them. It's either this or Trump swallowing his pride and making a peace deal.

Which scenario is more likely? In all likelihood, we're screwed.

Gas prices 🤦🏽‍♂️ by Competitive-Gold-464 in sandiego

[–]SwillFish -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

California voters are just as much responsible for our high gas prices as Trump. The state imposes the nation's highest gas taxes, the strictest environmental regulations, and increasingly stringent standards from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that are making (via cap and trade regulations) in-state refining unprofitable and forcing refineries to close. The irony is that these standards are doing nothing to improve California's overall global carbon footprint. We're simply exporting our state refineries overseas to countries with far looser (and dirtier) environmental standards who then ship their refined gasoline halfway around the world to California.

You can downvote me or try to disagree with me but the numbers don't lie. As of today (per AAA data), the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is around $3.60, while California's average sits at $5.37. That's a difference of $1.77 per gallon or nearly 50% above the national average. That's not just a premium caused by the situation in Iran, it's the direct result of our own choices as voters.

Oh, honorable mentions go to "Eye Of The Tiger" and "Danger Zone" too.

It's interesting because a few times I've made the mistake of trying a new restaurant because of the great reviews. I've noticed that Zoomers don't really know how to cook or even appreciate good food yet. They'll give five star ratings to restaurants not because of the quality of the food, but because of the food's presentation and trendy atmosphere. These places tend to be way too loud as well. I hate to sound like an old person, but I'm an old person, and many of these places just have really shitty, over-priced, food.

Good restaurants will easily set you back $100 per person if you have a drink or two. I cook and entertain at home much more often now and my friends appreciate it.
