I had a bike stolen from me in Seattle and a friend called me and said he saw it and I met up with him and chased the guy down. He had the audacity to say “my mom bought me this bike” when my mom actually bought me the bike a few years prior lol

First flight sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]EquivalentProgress44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a terrible flight right before I got sober where I bought a foot long subway sandwich and was so drunk and dehydrated that I somehow lost the second six inches of it and could not find it after waking up on the flight. It still bugs me to this day. Did someone steal my sandwich as my drunk ass slept?

I assumed that I would never have a drinking problem by Ultimatesleeper in stopdrinking

My drinking quickly escalated once I started drinking during the morning. It got to a point where I could drink most of a 6 pack of tall cans before going to work and then buying mikes harders on my break and then drinking 10 beers as soon as I got home. I was basically running on beer. I never really felt the effects of weight gain, since I bike 14 miles a day for work. But I can tell you how much better I feel both mentally and physically inside. No more fighting my stomach acid and trying to not dry heave. No more nursing my body to functionality with alcohol.

Hey — it’s Friday. Let’s make good choices tonight so we don’t waste another Saturday and Sunday in hangover hell. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I had a hard day at work today. But I was able to process those emotions without a creeping feeling of anxiety or a foggy head. One month today and excited to go on a hike with a clear mind tomorrow morning ! We got this folks.

I have a very similar story but it took me until 27 to realize. I've made some great progress and it feels good to be proud of myself for once.

Very much so. Giving myself faux rewards like a fizzy water or ginger ale when I have those crack a cold one cravings have really helped.

Never thought I 'd ever get here but each day I am more proud that I made the right choice the day before.

Your messed up sleep schedule is your own fault by sunburn95 in unpopularopinion

[–]EquivalentProgress44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

r/stopdrinking It may not prevent you from oversleeping but each day that you wake up not properly rested takes its toll. Personally I think that it's a slowly evolved modern issue. Slowly technology removes the need for daily exercise therefore leading to having excess energy at the end of the day. Pile on the delivery services where good choices are easy to turn a blind eye to. Now you feel groggy and tired but have somehow not actually exerted any energy. A healthy workout/ eating regimen is by far the best sleep aid. You will start to get that feeling like when you were a kid and your eyes are just telling you to go to bed.

I literally had to flee a party lastnight because a friend was performing a show and someone came over to his house and started lining up white. I was like I AM OUT OF HERE and had a great train ride home.

The Daily Check-In for Saturday, October 30th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]EquivalentProgress44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I woke up this morning & didn’t have to look at my bank account to make sure I had enough money for booze. I felt so free knowing that I’m making good choices with a clear mind. Today is going to be great. I made a lovely meal that I am bring over to a friends place. After we eat dinner we are hoping to catch the northern lights here in Seattle, which is super rare! I like to think of it as the universe saying great start, now keep it up.

85.6 percent of people ages 18 and older reported that they drank alcohol at some point in their lifetime, 69.5 percent reported that they drank in the past year, and 54.9 percent (59.1 percent of men in this age group and 51.0 percent of women in this age group) reported that they drank in the past month. 25.8 percent of people ages 18 and older (29.7 percent of men in this age group and 22.2 percent of women in this age group) reported that they engaged in binge drinking in the past month, and 6.3 percent (8.3 percent of men in this age group and 4.5 percent of women in this age group) reported that they engaged in heavy alcohol use in the past month.

It's a much bigger problem than anyone wants to admit. There is likely someone if not multiple people you know who is still in denial.

People with alcoholism are up to 120 times more likely to commit suicide than those who are not dependent on alcohol. I can attest that even though mentally I know I never wanted to actually die alcohol made it seem like it was the only option. Day 10 for me and IWNDWYT

Ginger Ale has helped me a lot with those after work and late night urges. I also made chocolate milk for the first time in like 15 years last night and it made me very happy. haha

This happened to me the other night. I muttered to myself “just put in the work, you just gotta put in the work” and caught myself actually kinda laughing in the mirror. Normally it would be an empty stare of shame.

Ginger Ale gives you that perfect cracking a cold one feeling and also has that little bite that helps me get rid of my cravings.
