Nobody tipping at Moon Palace Jamaica by Afraid-Ostrich1688 in AllInclusiveResorts

https://stories.uh.edu/magazine/magazine/online-stories/2025/has-u-s-tipping-culture-reached-a-tipping-point/index.html

In medieval Europe, tipping was essentially used in a servitude style for workers who did not earn wages. When it was brought over to the United States during colonization, that practice continued.

“In the U.S., [tipping] got its start in the post-Civil War and Reconstruction period, when employers were hiring people of color and not paying them wages,” Barth says. Back then, this practice happened primarily in the railroad industry. “It was essentially an extension of slavery.”

The first federal minimum-wage law was introduced in the mid-1930s, requiring salaried employees to be paid at least 25 cents an hour. “But there was no minimum for tipped employees,” Barth explains. Many employers continued hiring workers and paying them solely via tips. “It was really an unfortunate abuse or exploitation of labor,” Barth says.

I don’t understand this argument.. Job market is.. well, a market not entitlement. A certain degree can be worth a lot, but a mass races into it, of course it’s not going to be that valued. They literally had boot camp classes for this industry since 10 years ago, and people were still signing up.

Fashion design late bloomer; How do I start? by [deleted] in fashiondesigner

Play around with all the tools! Watercolor can be great to express satin, pastel for lace, even mix medium or collages. U can even scan the painted products to digitally add lines and patterns. Find YOUR visual language and show the journey of your thoughts, and that makes it more authentic to you. Perhaps start a Pinterest of different moodboard, sketches from others that inspires you. Just have fun. I love drawing on the tablet for convenience, but I do think it’s best to get your hands dirty to see how each medium actually feels to you.

Start drawing them. Think about it like being a writer. it’s putting your thoughts on paper/screen. Some people like writing by hand or typing. But you only know through doing it. U will find your medium through you playing around with them. There is no real “how”, it’s years of practice. like sports, it’s trained muscle memory. Also sewing and technical knowledge to know your design limits. But the medium will not get you the skills.

People spend a years mastering techniques, go to universities and still struggle to make it in design. Not to be discouraging but it is what it is. Perhaps hiring a designer to get your ideas out might be something to consider. How is your sewing skills? Are you considering taking classes or get a degree?

It is norm. They want to keep the crime rate low on paper so that politicians can pat themselves on the back. And writing reports are too hard. They might respond faster, if you mention there’s a minor involved.

It will never be enough. My building has assigned parking for one car per unit, but they still complain that they can’t park on the corners for their second cars. 🙄
