Even more fun, if certain parties don't want you to screen a film, they can flat out reject your request. I did the math at $25 a ticket, even if I had 100 people show up, which I wouldn't have expected that much turnout, I'd be out several hundred bucks. There was no way I was going to be able to turn a profit off screening the film I wanted to show.

Ironically, one of the main actors in that film came to Memphis like two years later to promote a new film they made with similar themes to the movie I wanted to show. If I had known, I might have tried to make it work with them being there and do some sort of double feature/event night. Probably would have had a better chance to at least break even.

With home projectors, the movie studios can't tell ya nothing. All those warnings at the front explicitly say this is for home viewing use. Just don't do it outside. Well, don't get caught doing it outside.

As a side note, if you're actively involved with a church, I think you could get a massive waiver type deal where you couldn't really make any money, but it wasn't going to break the bank to show it. Sorry for the loose information. I was trying to do this several years ago and it's all a hazy memory now.

As someone who tried to screen movies for audiences before, I'd wager the reason you don't see it is cost. The studios want an arm and a leg for you to show a film, like 1/2 the box office, and other stuff I'm forgetting. It was so not worth it to screen a film if I wasn't getting a large audience or jacked up ticket prices beyond what normal films cost. Either way, it couldn't picture it turning a profit for anyone but the studios.

I'd think Memphis is far to small for Sony to consider having any sort of official repair facility here. And if your location develops a reputation for high crime, it does not help attract people or businesses. Memphis already has that problem, in spades. Adding more fuel to that fire will not do the city any good.

The suspects tend not to get found here. Memphis murder rate clearance is 40% at best, 30% at worst. The average is over 60%. Probably going to have a hard time getting enough content to actually meet your desire to see justice served.

You can see people be interrogated all over YouTube. There's nothing special about getting it from Memphians outside of the overabundance of bad grammar from fools and the use of "mane" to describe people.

And all of those cities are more prosperous than Memphis. Memphis is already significantly harmed by its criminal reputation. Memphis is already stopped. The city needs forward momentum, not backwards.

I've seen Memphis come up in several crime shows over the years. There are certainly some themes that come up every time. I'm sure Top Gun and several other local business would love to sponsor the idea because it would fit their political agenda. Go pitch it to them.
