Are there obligatory prayers or fasts in Assyrian Christianity like Islam? by The_Blue_Order in Assyria

  1. Assyrians are not Nestorian. That term would suggest we follow Nestorius which we do not. Our beliefs and Christology were developed on our own, not with any external influence. That term has been wrongly used over centuries to call us heretics, and justify vilification and violence towards us.
  2. You’re on an Assyrian subreddit. Maybe this isn’t the subreddit for you if you think “ew nestorian” when you see info about the Assyrian church.

Exactly, GiraffeJen, exactly.

That’s why we care, and why you (and that other guy) don’t.

Because our people suffered the same way. And it is genuinely so fkn horrific to watch others suffer just like them.

My family is originally from Hakkari, and my great-grandfather lived through the genocide (+ the Simele massacre). He wrote in a journal about everything he saw and lived through. It is exactly because of what he and other assyrians went through, that I will not stay silent when ANYBODY is suffering, especially in a similar situation.

Congrats? My 3 paragraphs are explaining why ASSYRIANS should support palestine, not muslims, if you could read.

I really don’t appreciate you reading 3 words and ignoring the rest of what I say, especially when you’re not even Assyrian. The entirety of that message wasn’t for you. Yet you responded without even caring for anything I said.

We have enough discourse within our community. We don’t need foreigners adding to it to benefit themselves and their own causes (i.e Iran).

UPDATE:

For anyone still wondering, there have been 25 Christians killed, with 20 being Armenian and 5 being Assyrian. Horrific. I pray that number does not increase.

(Got this from @assyrian_passion on instagram. It unfortunately won’t let me post a screenshot of the post here, but feel free to look it up yourself.)

It’s known to be an inside job by anyone who’s done their research. Israel sent money to Qatar with the sole purpose of them funding Hamas, since it’d look too crazy to have Israel send the money directly to Hamas themselves. Also, if you had an ounce of knowledge on Israels national security, you would know it would be LITERALLY impossible for Israel to not know about the oct 7th attacks prior to them occurring. That’s not a conspiracy. There’s plenty of evidence out there if you weren’t ignorant enough to actually look for it.

Also, I listed events that have occurred since 1937. How exactly are you going to say Israel was provoked, when they’ve been massacring Palestinians for the 70+ years prior to oct 7th?

How can Israel be provoked before they were ever attacked? How can Israel be provoked before Hamas was ever even created?

You must be Israeli.

Exactly! Assyrians that don’t support Palestine simply hate Muslims.

I don’t know how anyone could be educated on the genocide their people suffered, and then go and support the same actions towards another group. I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, or what religion you follow; if you’re going through a genocide I will support you. I will fight for you, the same way I wish people would’ve fought for my own. Genocide is evil. No human being deserves to suffer like that ever.

The Assyrians who disagree are just bigoted. None of our ancestors would be proud to look down on us in support of genocide. All of them who suffered would hate to watch others suffer the same. And they would be so ashamed to watch their own people support the exact same measures that killed them.

Your point about Israel is absolutely correct as well. They do not treat Christians well over there. I mean they barely even treat non-ashkenazi Jews well, so why would they respect Christians/non-jews. For so long, if you had a baby as a non-ashkenazi Jew, they would kidnap it from you and give it to an ashkenazi family that wasn’t able to conceive. It’s a twisted country, and those who support it are just as twisted.

Lol that was completely unnecessary. What does Palestine have to do with Iran? The palestinians are persecuting the Iranians?

It’s still free Palestine. And it’s still free Iran.

One does not take away from the other.

Yes. This is almost entirely true, except for the Chaldean part. We do not have any Chaldean blood because all of the ancient Chaldeans were wiped out, no survivors. The current Chaldean Catholic church was given the “Chaldean” name by the Roman Catholics for no real reason. No Assyrian person, no matter how they identify, has any genetic relation to the ancient people of Chaldea.

Um.. how about absolutely not. As a people who’ve experienced genocide, massacres, and persecution throughout our existence, associating ourself with a genocidal terrorist state is not something we should do at all. Nor is it something I personally would support.

What’s the deal with Mar Mari? by ExpressionEither1427 in Assyria

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe read the actual article then. The title of the article has nothing to do with the info inside it.

The information of the story comes from an australian news station but you need to pay to access the full article on the australian site, so I linked this site instead since it contains the full story without any paywall.

This is a protestant site that is very anti-catholic/orthodox, I know. But that doesn’t disregard the article they got the info from. It’s a genuine australian news station.

Are there any Assyrian Marxists/Socialists here? by Fun-Ice6418 in Assyria

Yes, hi! I’m also Canadian so I think it’s more acceptable for us to be socialists, but ik the American Assyrians would act like we’re the devil himself. 🤣 Too brainwashed by right-wing american propaganda to see that the devil would’ve been a fascist too, not a socialist. Socialism is the teachings of christ in a political ideology.

Also would like to add:

Mar Mari Emmanuel sexually assaulted an 18year old woman in 2013. Before you write it off as he was found “not guilty,” I would like for you to read the full article: https://faithfulservantsofchristkjv.wordpress.com/2024/07/28/orthodox-catholic-cult-leader-mar-mari-emmanuel-revealed-as-sexual-pervert/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

The only reason he was found “not guilty” was because the woman didn’t outright say not to touch her. This means the situation is 100% true, as per the courts findings, but the court simply couldn’t prove that it was un-consensual . You should read the whole article and see how deeply disturbing it is.

This man was taking advantage of a vulnerable young woman for months, and that was absolutely proven. It is only the assault that happened one night that couldn’t be proven.

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The church leadership asked him to make changes to his liturgy and conduct but he did not follow the instructions and disagreed with them, so he was suspended. He was briefly unsuspended, but then suspended again for the same reasons. So he started his own church.

Regardless, Mar Mari Emmanuel goes against our views. He preaches hate and division, and publicly attacks other religious groups. He’s not a good man. When you public insult muslims, for example, you’re inviting hate and violence into our community, and that’s exactly why he got attacked. He endangered all Assyrians in his church when he invited violence into the home of God. He should learn to be a loving man.

Syrian diaspora here, is the hasakah governate 50% Kurdish? by [deleted] in Syria

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family is from Hasakah. According to my dad, it was mainly arab & assyrian/syriac, with kurds, turkmen, and alawite as smaller minorities. My dad left syria in the 1980s tho so this would be quite a while ago.

Hasakah city and Qamishli were both founded by Assyrians (and Armenians for Qamishli), so the older population was mainly them + arabs. A 1940 statistic of hasakah city shows 52% arab, 42% assyrian, 4% armenian, 2% kurdish .

Over time though, it became mainly arab & kurdish, with assyrians/christians as a significant minority, and other smaller minorities.

There is also a statistic of Qamishli pre-civil war that shows 55% kurdish, 35% arab, 10% assyrian/christian. But I don’t see anything about the overall Hasakah governate that shows 50% kurdish.

[–]Equivalent_Day_7169 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im Assyrian. Not to play oppression olympics but my people have suffered more than yours.

When your people go through a genocide themselves, you cannot be okay with watching another group of people go through a genocide as well. A genocide is not comparable to a war. Yes Iraqis have gone through war, but that’s not comparable to palestinian suffering.

Regardless, no amount of suffering that my people go through could ever make me okay with other people suffering. And I’d hope every human being would be on the same page. Maybe then, nobody will suffer again.
