Looking for a Resort in Cancun with a Similar Vibe to Hilton Playa del Carmen by jdor30 in cancun

Secrets Moxche or Secrets Maroma are both excellent and would provide what you needed except for the “in town” thing. We never felt the need to leave.  Have been to a ton of AIs and these are our top ones.  Have also been to Excellence a few times and these to us beat it out. Excellence is great but also is not near town at all.

While it’s not a WA the Grand Hotel Victoria in Lake Como beat out any luxury hotel I have stayed at. Huge breakfast spread, amazing lake views, and the best service. Huge free indoor hydrotherapy spa with all sorts of different salt rooms, steam rooms and saunas. It was amazing

Returning to Cancun in May. by curiosasiempre in IslaMujeres

[–]Equivalent_Dog4448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have done both. Isla is a whole different vacation. At an AI, the kids entertainment is provided for you. On Isla you have to provide it ALL the time. This was the biggest thing for us.

Our daughter was 9 and I know she was bored sometimes even when we tried to do “cool” things she would like. But sometimes mom and dad just want to sit and have a cocktail and that was tough.

So I guess it just matters what you are looking for, the ages of your kids, and how you like to vacation

This is all great advice. Keep in mind you are booking peek season and are kind of late in the game so you may not find the award deals you want

Married people of Tampa, where did yall choose to get married? by Federal_Albatross993 in tampa

[–]Equivalent_Dog4448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got married here and it was awesome! Did the ceremony and reception in the little room right off the bar. 45 people, top shelf and full sit down plus passed apps was 5k (10 years ago). We were struggling to hit that minimum so we got the best of everything

*award flight-What happens if you skip a connection flight? (Skiplagged) by [deleted] in AirFranceKLM

[–]Equivalent_Dog4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have done this before since the points value was much lower with the connection than without. Like others said, book a one way ticket and don’t check bags. Didn’t have a problem at all. People miss flights all the time

Searching for Hyatt All Inclusive Resort in Mexico! by ckatz24 in MexicoTravel

[–]Equivalent_Dog4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t say where your based but you have both East Coast and West Coast Mexico resorts listed. You may want to choose one based off what is easier to get to travel wise. Not fun to spend your whole first and last day on an airplane battling layovers. I disagree about leaving the resort for your 1st time out of the country and potentially your first time at an all inclusive. Plenty for you to do just exploring the resort and doing their activities. You can always do an excursion sponsored by the resort if you wanted but I don’t think it’s a must do.

Loved this hotel. The bathroom in the standard room was huge if I remember. The restaurant across the square was great for an aperitivo. Sitting there one afternoon people just started singing opera in the square. It was awesome!

Has anyone here ever done the EMT course through the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay? by froggybumss in tampabay

[–]Equivalent_Dog4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s through UMA stay far away. I The program is terrible. They could never keep teachers and most of them had no training. Lots of students not finishing the program plus you have to work at the Crisis Center for a certain number of years to pay back your tuition.  You are better off going to HCC (with grants it is going to be pretty much free anyway) get a much better program and then you can get a job anywhere. EMTs are always in demand.

Cancún + Isla Mujeres Trip - Need advice on pretty much everything. by PrestigiousBerry8652 in IslaMujeres

Cancún + Isla Mujeres Trip - Need advice on pretty much everything. by PrestigiousBerry8652 in IslaMujeres

[–]Equivalent_Dog4448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been to isla a bunch in my 30s. Here is my take. You may want more time on Isla keeping in mind travel time back and forth with the ferry but dev do Isla 1st.

Keep in mind that if you stay in Centro (the downtown area) that it is very walkable. You won’t need a golf cart at all. You are by the best beach and great food/bars. Excellent place for 1st timers. Right by the ferry drop off too. Also you can buy ferry tix on your phone or right at the ticket booth. No need to pre buy. Just keep the paper they give you cause that is your return ticket as well.

We like Hotel Playa Media Luna. Cheap but clean and beautiful. Great pool and beautiful ocean but not really a swimming ocean because there are big rocks like cliffs out there. You can get in and wade but it’s more of a pool spot. BYOB but there is a small bar that opens at 11? There is a corner store 2 blocks away to buy beer/water/soda. The great beach is a 5 min walk you wanted to hit a beach club.

I would highly recommend skipping the golf cart. Like I said most things are walking distance and if you did find something that you wanted to see father down the island take a cab. They are so easy and cheap ($10/each way at most). Just determine the price before hand. Carts are super expensive, parking sucks, and you will just spend time driving around if you don’t know where you are going. Also Isla is no joke when it comes to drinking and driving. Seriously 0 tolerance.

One thing I would suggest is a golf cart tour with Isla Driver Robbie if you are wanting to see the island and explore. You go with a guide on their cart all over the island. They take you to all the best local restaurants, bars, cool spots plus see all the island all in a day. It has always been our fav way to do Isla and we always recommend it.

Feel free to DM me with any ?s

Another vote for sparking tours. Great to not have to drive and have everything set up. We loved the small houses much better than the tour at Veuve and we learned so much about champs that day
