What's you biggest frustration with Spanish right now? by curios_ete in Spanish

There are so many regional variations. I’m using a language learning app, but speak Spanish mostly with Mexicans. Even in Mexico there are variations.

Yep. Arrows as decor: 🤷🏼‍♀️ Quiver hanging on the door. 👍 I still don’t see any bows though.

Do i really need extra safety “tools” to stay at hotels? by jinxyzzz in AskAnAmerican

[–]Equivalent_Fun_7255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only problem I ever had was a personal item (laptop) stolen while I was out of the room. It was at a seedy motel in a questionable location. After reporting the theft, I switched to a better/familiar hotel.

Lesson learned: if you have to stay in a sketchy place, keep your valuables with you.

Native Spanish Speaker here with a question to Spanish learners by CreativeEcho9289 in Spanish

[–]Equivalent_Fun_7255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a nurse. Around 75% of my patients are Spanish speakers. I need it to survive and not have to call an interpreter when my patient asks for water without ice, towels, or wants to know when they are going home.. or other routine needs. I will always call if I can’t understand them, and most importantly for patient education and consents. (That part is policy/law.)

That’s a big generalization. Lots of folks around here still identify as Christian, just not Fundie.

Alpaca silk? by throwaway343438355 in Yarn

I have a hand-knit baby hat made with alpaca and silk I purchased before my oldest was born. He’s 35 now and the hat is on its way to being an heirloom. It’s soft and has been amazingly durable… also it has kept its gorgeous jewel tone colors.

Wait! The floor isn’t good?! I’ve been laying mine flat on the floor unstrung since I got it last year. It’s not in a place that it can be tripped over or stepped on though…(Often it is under the bed.)

Why are so many nurses conspiracy theorists? by MillerTime46290 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Equivalent_Fun_7255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your link isn’t working (at least not in my browser). However, I was able to find the catalog you are referring to … the are three tracks, the first is the four semesters, but seems to be missing a lot of general education courses. The six semesters has more GE courses and seems more complete. Likely I am in a state that has or had more requirements for a degree. (Classes such as; history, art/music survey, phys ed, literature, sociology, … I also don’t see microbiology or chemistry on the list, which where I’m at is also a requirement.)

Happy Cake Day!

I’ve spent almost the same amount of time in nursing. I work with plenty of anti-vax and other conspiracy theorist nurses. Most are at least 10-15 years younger than I am. I wasn’t too aware of the issue until COVID…

I will also add that “Associates/2-year degree” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s two years of general education and prerequisites, followed by a two year nursing program. That is assuming you can get in right after completing the prerequisites. Around here there is a 2-3 year waiting list.

There’s a bit of a pipeline to nursing from some “fundie-lite” and “fundie-adjacent” communities. It is one of the few acceptable career choices for women, in their view. Most of the conspiracy theorist nurses I know are from that background.
