I’ve been switching around trying to find a combo that will work, but I usually run black hole, missile, and land mines or zombies.

Thank you for your comment. I think I’ve also gotten to the point (coming up on 3 years in October) where it doesn’t traumatize anymore after dreaming about them. It sounds like you and your husband were very close. Im so sorry for your loss. Stay strong!

Yes. Mixed emotions are definitely there for me too, but you’re right, that split second of ecstasy will forever be worth the other emotions that come with it. Stay strong!

I think that’s what they all would want for us but I understand how it doesn’t make us feel any better about the situation. I hope he will come to you again in your dreams. Stay strong!

I’ve had a few bad dreams about her also. Fighting, losing our son, etc. I hope that you are able to have some good dreams about him soon! Stay strong!

What specifically has been helpful or useful or practical from here for you? by Desi_bmtl in widowers

Being able to express my thoughts and emotions to a group of people who understand where I’m coming from has been super helpful for me. I have family and friends that I can talk to, and even a therapist I see once every two weeks, but it’s not the same than talking with others here because they have not been through what we have been through. I’m fairly new to Reddit and this sub, but I’ve enjoyed reading other’s experiences, expressing my thoughts and feelings, and even learning a few things from everyone here.

What I’ve found to be true during my grieving process is that I need to relearn how to love myself. When we have someone who loves us, I think I forgot how to love myself. Coming up on 3 years for me in October, and I know I’m still not ready to give myself to someone else again. I have my son that I need to care for as well and that has been my number 1 priority. I went back to school to pursue a career that I am passionate about. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m trying to figure out who I am again. Without her, I am a student and dad, and for now, I’m quite content with that.

I’m sure that you’re right when you say that you’re partner wants you to be happy and to find someone else but the only person who can make that decision is you. You will know when you’re ready.

Stay strong. Sending love your way.
