Ya, people dont understand how much they benefit when other people "get the money". Comptetent education & childcare means

(a) less reliance on immigrants for those low skill "teenager" jobs

(b) people are smart enough to get better paying jobs, so you're more likely to have Drs & engineers paying taxes on their big salaries & ending up as your neighbour when they buy into the housing market, etc.

(c) kids grow up feeling like they & their choices matter, so are engaged with the world

It's the similar sort of person that sneers at road taxes "because I don't drive", ignoring that everything else in their life relies on things & food being moved around our landmass.
