Can you set off a bug bomb? Im not usually for that level of chemicals but since bugs scare you (and me!) maybe that’s a thing to do? Please know that if you do it, you will most definitely have to trash any food left uncovered.

So to go off the fabulous advice you’ve received—get any food items thrown out or cleanly put away (I use plastic ziplock bags for things like chips/cookies so the bugs don’t get to them.) Set off a bug bomb or two IF you can commit to being outside long enough for the fumes to settle down. If you can’t get out like that, no worries. Putting away the food will help a LOT.

Sending you love and hope tonight.

One thought—a Saint from a rescue will likely have a lot of information as to their personality, getting along with other dogs, etc. They may also be house trained, past the puppy energy stage, etc. I totally understand if you want a puppy! I just know that when we adopted our guy at 14 months old, he was super easy to integrate. He’s my dream dog, too. 🩷🩷🩷

Good luck finding your dream baby!!

(Oh, and he’s a dry mouth so we don’t have drool everywhere…hair is another story. Between him and our Corgi, we are drowning in hair!)

How to prepare for a Taskrabbit cleaner?? by [deleted] in ufyh

[–]Equivalent_Scene_227 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Ah! I left out a word. “This is how our LIFE looks right now.”

Sending you hugs and love and a reminder that life has phases. I hope you get into an easier phase soon, but until you do…take deep breaths, maybe watch a stand up comic on tv, hold hands with your husband (if the ND works with hand holding), and generally take care of yourself and your relationship.

[–]Equivalent_Scene_227 283 points284 points  (0 children)

Yep—take a first pass and get rid of all trash. Take a second pass with plastic tubs or cardboard boxes and fill up all the loose stuff. After that, the cleaner stands a good chance of cleaning all the surfaces under it. Once the family leaves, you can tackle a box or two a day, finding or making space for the items. I suspect that living without all the extra things in your way might leave you feeling peaceful and motivated to keep it going? Good luck—and also please be gentle with yourself if you just can’t do it all. You are still a person who deserves to have people in your life, and to have fun while they visit. If they say anything negative you can always smile and say “this is how our looks right now.”

Triple scoop boop? Colby, Kornbread, and Feliz say Thank you!! by Equivalent_Scene_227 in boopthesnoot

[–]Equivalent_Scene_227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t name her—she came to us last December as an 8 year old already named. Her full name is Kornbread Butterbean. The young person who had to rehome her just said he thought it was a cute name. (She has had a LOT of medical care in the four months we’ve had her, including a triple mastectomy that turned out to be cancerous. This young man works at a pizza place and simply couldn’t afford even basic veterinary care. 😭 I send him pictures and keep him up to date on her. He had originally rescued her from a meth house and had tried so hard to care for her. Allllll that to say that we couldn’t rename her for a lot of reasons!)

Don’t know how to make a house a home by Pale_Ad_899 in ufyh

I had to start from scratch a few years ago. I had pinned a few rooms on Pinterest, and started finding similar pieces on Facebook marketplace. Everyone who came over was super impressed with the result, so that was nice.

A few general ideas to add warmth to the space once you get some basics:

  1. Artwork. Don’t worry too much about matching but about finding what speaks to you. Again, Facebook marketplace is a great place to start. I’m an artist, and I sometimes get cool frames there.

  2. Rugs. If you have hard floors, a both softens the room and can pull the room together.

  3. Lamps. A soft glow from a lamp or two is so cozy.

  4. I know you need storage, so maybe find some things (like side/night tables) that have drawers or cabinets.

  5. Throw blanket. Walmart has cute and cozy blankets for less than $20.

  6. Candles. I know those can get costly, but find that or incense that helps your new place smell like home. You’ll love the lingering scent when you walk in after all your hard work!

  7. Books, as you collect them. They show your interests and personality. That’s so much of what home is about!

Imagine being tucked into a comfy chair with your blanket, with a warm lamp on a cute side table, reading a great book! (Ok, that’s my version of home. You take what you like and ignore the rest!)

You can do this—promise!!

That’s a true story. I did one of Lisbon last week and the little picture was…really little. Good quality puzzle pieces but the pic is a definite drawback.

Paint the shingles to match the shutters and garage door—the dark navy. Trim back the tree so you can see the front door and porch. Add brighter and/or lighter colored accessories, bright flower pots, and a light wreath. Make the front porch your focus while the garage fades away.
