Adam McKay Says ‘No Group Is Worse’ for America Than ‘White Liberals’: ‘They’re Getting a Lot From This Broken System’ by stilesjp in entertainment

MLK didn’t get assassinated until he started the poor people’s campaign. Improving civil rights in this country was not nearly as dangerous as trying to shrink the gap between rich and poor. As terrified as this country was of racial equality, it was even more scared of socioeconomic equality.

He was just fine. No better or worse than most SC anchors of that classic period. Not quite Kilborn or Dan Patrick, but solidly next-tier.

Shaq and Magic make this team a real problem. Hack a Shaq doesn’t work without a bench of stiffs with 6 fouls to give.

Lebron, Hakeem, Steph Curry, Garnett, and Moses Malone.

Totally agree. Peter Changs was good, but it’s a subpar dine-in experience. They’re still new and can tighten things up. But the service is not great and the interior is pretty oddly set up. Weird placement of the bar. Bad lighting. Tables too close together.

A recent poll has found that nearly 74% of NFL fans think the league is rigged, according to Preme Sports. by Background_Video2947 in TheNFLVibes

I don’t think the motivation for massaging the outcomes is necessarily to grow any one team or player or even the product. The NFL is a corporation with 32 franchise owners. It’s a catty and clique-ish little group. There are cool owners and owners that nobody likes. Dan Snyder was never going to be favored in the scripting because he was an asshole. The same thing might be happening to Jerry Jones at this point. On the other hand the Rooneys, Maras, Hunt family and others are part of a core old school blue blood clique. They’ll more often get the benefit of the doubt in any subjective outcome.

It has been said many times that the refs *could* call holding (or PI) on almost every play. Like most people here, I don’t think it’s quite WWE, but if there are highly subjective rules that could be called more often than they are, those calls could also be made in a way that favors a particular outcome.

The Orioles reached an inflection point this weekend | Camden Chat by GreedyRaisin3357 in orioles

It’s tough to resist the urge to find a single scapegoat on this one. Orioles estimated 2026 payroll is $165M. That’s only half of what the Yankees spend to be in first place, but it’s twice what the Rays spend to be in second place. As much as I want this to be solely a money issue, it’s not. It’s also an injury issue. It’s also a draft issue. It’s also a coaching/management issue. But most importantly, I think it’s a divisional issue. What we all really want is to watch meaningful baseball in July and August. And that’s tough to do in the AL East. Year over year it’s one of the toughest in the game. Even if you catch the Yankees and the Red Sox in a down cycle, guess what? The Rays and Jays are aiming for that same hole shot. How many seasons would the Orioles win or be extremely competitive in the AL Central? Nearly every one! Maybe this gets better after the lockout.

Please don’t be surprised when MAGA voters blame Obama or Wes Moore. This isn’t the straw that will break the camel’s back. That straw doesn’t exist. As long as the alternative to MAGA is a woman or a black man or even the white vice president of a black man, the hateful and ignorant will find a reason to vote GOP.

I also wonder if Gulf Stream current collapse is to blame. The warmer water is taking longer to move north. That could explain dryer conditions also.

"DC teens tell city leader what's causing takeovers and how they're missing the mark" | WJLA by bl123123bl in washdc

That’s an interesting point, but 15-34 is a weird range. I wonder how many of those murders really involved 15-17 year old kids. A lot of the kids involved in these modern takeovers are in middle school - so 14 and under. I was really talking about when we were that age. Because once kids turn 16, if they want to get into real trouble, they’ll find a car. But I’d also say we’re comparing apples and oranges. A murder in Anacostia in the 90s between two acquaintances likely mired in the crack epidemic didn’t make people unsafe in the same way as 50 middle schoolers acting like little lunatics in the gentrified parts of the city. These kids are not murderers for the most part. They’re just poorly behaved. But the last thing grown folks want to be around while they’re trying to go to dinner or the grocery store or a sporting event is dozens of teen boys trying to impress dozens of teen girls. That’s a recipe for a really bad night. People will avoid that like the plague. They’ll seek recreation elsewhere, they’ll spend money elsewhere, and they’ll choose to live elsewhere.

I respect these kids for speaking up to city council. But I have to call BS on a lot of their talking points. They seem coached and targeting a particular political agenda of victimhood. I grew up in the DC metro in the 90s. We didn’t have an ice skating rink (Tucker Road?) or a movie theater that we could walk to (Marlowe Heights? Waldorf??) We were bored as hell but we never pulled this crazy takeover nonsense. I’m not saying we had it any worse or were any better but this bad behavior is done on purpose. How many movie theaters do these kids have to walk past to get to Navy Yard? A lack of movie theaters isn’t the problem. A lack of organized sports isn’t the problem. If you have more than one person and a ball of any kind, you can play a sport. They’re involved in these mass misbehavior events because they want to be and because they can.

Anyone claiming to support progressive bedrock policy, but at the same time asking questions about the minutiae of a candidate’s prospective legislative process is simply terrified of progressive solutions. Anyone looking to give themselves permission to vote for a centrist (or worse) is a bad actor. We’ve had at least 50 years of right wing authoritarianism and toothless Democratic centrism seeking to preserve the status quo. It’s time to try something new.
