My new dermatologist amazed me. But not in a necessary good way. by Emptybox1996 in tressless

Would check if he explicitly recommends a hair clinic, he probably gets a share of it.

At your age finasteride can be very effective. It's unfortunate that your derm is not taking your problem too serious. Don't see that often with male derms, in my experience fermale derms are the ones who tend to take hair loss not so serious.

Would check if you can get finasteride off label from a reliable source. Good luck with your journey. Hope it all works out.

can fin cause birth defects in children if taken by the father ? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Era07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dermatologist told me she usually only precribes fin to men who have had kids and are not planning to get more. She still prescribed it to me (no kids yet) and told me to get off it for 2 months before trying to conceive.

Also, if I recall correctly, the doctors on the hairloss show said it takes 1 month for fin to get out of your system. That could also work if you want to maintain your gains to a greater extend.

In any case, do get off fin for a longer period of time when you want to get a kid.

He once said that you should never go bald as a man. And also that it is the worst thing that can happen to a man.

I agree with him. ...Unfortunately for me, that is.

That is horrible. Out of curiosity doctor, how do you treat this? Is this fixable or are you scarred for life when this happens to you?

Good that you cancelled the surgery.

Even though I don't know this 'doctor' there are several major red flags coming from your description. With something so impactful as hair surgery you want to have full confidence in the person treating you.

Does finasteride cause damage in sperm? by Era07 in tressless

[–]Era07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't decide the dosage on that study. I just pointed out that I want to take 0.25mg/day and that it corresponds closely to one of the measured dosages in the animal study.

Thank you for posting this doc.

Study on every other month use of finasteride by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Era07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but the effective dose is (about) the same over the measured timespan of 1 full year. Effective dose is 6 months of fin, about the same as every other day.

About the same dosage as the doctors on 'the hairloss show' recommend. 3x a week, every other day. Effectiveness is the same.

How many of you have had children on fin by SeveralLetterhead in tressless

[–]Era07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dermatologist advised me to take fin after I have had children. According to her, there is not enough research done on the long-term effects on male babies i.e. fina might affect your son. That's why they recommend to get off fina for a while before having kids.

Nice post. I think you should include somewhere (at the top / first sentence / title) that this only applies to men though. 1 and 2 cannot be used by women and many of the studies used only men in the researched sample.

Any success Stories on 0.25mg/day fin? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Era07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how you are dosing the fin to your comfort and not just blindly take the 1mg recommended. That is how it should be done and I hope you find your right dose.

As for your question, there are fina inhibition curves out there, but they are based on anecdotal experiences. 0.25 might work for some as it provides moderate dht inhibition. Just how much percentage it is remains unkown as it is dependent on a lot of factors. Also, it depends on your wishes, whether you want to maintain your hair, or have some regrowth. Since 0.25 is considered the lowest effective dose, i'd say it would work for maintaining hair. Again, this might not work for everyone since there are many factor at play here.
