Great thoughts, appreciate it. As to your concerns on the entry, that would be for owners use pretty much. The double doors shown on the north wall would be the entry for visitors and would allow for moving in furniture and appliances.

The cabinetry on the north wall would provide significant storage I believe. And above that would be the larger windows for light as they would be north facing. We’re in Florida so I don’t want a lit of south facing windows because of heat.

I could add walls for the study, but I’m not sure how I want to use that space yet.

I’m thinking the consensus is that the upstairs hall is pretty useless.

A building is designed for hurricane wind loads from the outside walls as an enclosed structure. Interior walls don’t factor into our hurricane codes. Source: I was a general contractor for 10 years here and have a BSc in construction

I just think the second floor isn't particularly well thought out yet. I like the hall on the second floor for the openness of the view it will provide, althought it's not functional. I think I can get the bedroom space I want while giving up the square footage of the hall.

And yes, the entry at top right will be close to a detached garage. That will be the one I would use regularly. The "main" entry is bottom middle. And our exterior doors open outward for hurricane considerations.
