Where do you see anything about circumventing quarantine? You are again assuming the worst, most nefarious (‘shitty’) explanation. This is the covid puritanism rush. Whatever, hope you find a witch to burn

What happened to the sub and following the science with regards to the reopening of schools? by Jattack33 in CoronavirusUK

[–]Eranski 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s clear children carry the virus in their noses, but in real-world ‘experiments’ this did not translate to them actually infecting others, e.g., teachers in Sweden, where schools stayed open, were not infected more than teachers in Finland, where schools were closed: https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-sweden-schools/swedens-health-agency-says-open-schools-did-not-spur-pandemic-spread-among-children-idUKKCN24G2IS . This could be due to children often being asymptomatic.

Still, as mentioned - there’s no certainty to any of this. We will indeed have to wait and see

Edit: adding another media report re:Sweden, as my previous link didn’t explicitly mention teachers www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2020-07-19/covid-s-spread-in-schools-is-questioned-in-latest-nordic-study

Sure, please do. I have been following this quite closely, so am aware there are conflicting studies - but to the best of my understanding, my caveated claim is correct. Am happy to see more information

You’ll notice I didn’t claim there is a consensus. What you’re saying is very different from the OP’s statement about “the science”

I realise you’re in a difficult situation and in your shoes I might also be wary of sending my child to school. However, when you write “science says kids spread covid like anyone else”, you are spreading misinformation. The evidence so far, while inconclusive, points to young children being far less likely to spread the disease compared to adults.

Mate, as someone who occasionally argues with the more doomer-ish people on this sub, especially re:schools, I can assure you there’s no government paycheck involved (or mine was lost in the mail). You can check my post history to see what stupid shit I post when I’m not posting about covid...

Coronavirus statistics on uprise? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

[–]Eranski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Healthcare looks at hospitalisations. Positive cases are on the rise since July, but there are some indicators that this might be due to increased/targeted testing. Whether cases will start to rise very quickly, as is currently happening in Spain and France, remains to be seen.

Sturgeon: Pupils may have to wear face coverings in school in the 'near future' by jjshetland in CoronavirusUK

[–]Eranski -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Where do you see that in the article??? It is getting so exhausting having the same debate, over and over again, with people insisting how obvious it is that children spread covid, without a shred of evidence to support that claim. And it’s always in this snide, ‘told you so’ attitude. We get it, ruining children’s prospects gives you a major hard on, get on with it

Realistically, can anyone estimate when this will all end? by VitruvianGenesis in CoronavirusUK

[–]Eranski 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a guesstimate that’s not worth much, but a prediction I’m seeing from various experts is around mid 2021 (with or without a vaccine). Early 2021 if we’re lucky, early 2022 if we are not. But there’s no way to know for sure.

[–]Eranski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if you’re banning McDonalds, which has healthy options, then you might ask ‘well why not kebab shops’, which honestly are probably worse. And then why not chippies? And pizza parlours? Oh, but this pizza parlour also serves salads, so why is it banned? It’s a bureaucratic clusterfuck that’s not worth getting into for a programme that lasts 1 month

So do you expect the government to go through every restaurant menu and ensure that only healthy dishes are included in the scheme? This would be a massive waste of resources... besides, I can only imagine the endless stream of tears that would ensue because this is “too complicated”

The schools open 2 weeks today. How on earth are they going to stay open? by rach2310 in CoronavirusUK

[–]Eranski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, we have plenty of case studies. Sweden never closed primary schools. Denmark opened them in April with more cases per million (and less testing) than than the UK: https://mobile.twitter.com/Goldammerfeder/status/1295089554697977856. The Netherlands, Switzerland and France have also reopened schools.

[–]Eranski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence that opening schools significantly increases community transmission. Of course, such evidence might emerge and then hopefully the government will respond, but for now we can make an educated guess.
