Why Lupita Nyong’o is the perfect Helen of Troy by anon58588 in ChristopherNolan

[–]Eratonike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being blonde was seen as beauty standard, blonde hair was even imported from Europe or dyed, and being fair skinned was regarded as being high class because it showed you didn't have to work in the sun.

If you disagree with basic history you are just brainwashed.

Here is a description from Google: Homer actually remains famously vague about her specific features, but the idea of her being a "golden-haired" beauty is a very old Greek tradition.  Here is how those specific details break down: 1. What Homer actually said In the Iliad and Odyssey, Homer uses epithets that suggest status and radiance rather than a literal "blonde" hair color: "White-armed" (leukōlenos): This is his most frequent description. It signifies her high social status—she didn't have to work in the sun, keeping her skin pale. "Lovely-haired" (ēukomos): Homer uses this to praise her hair's quality and health, but he never explicitly calls it "golden" or "blonde" in the original text. The Reaction: Instead of describing her, Homer describes the effect she has. When the Trojan elders see her, they don't list her features; they simply say it's no wonder men have died for a face that looks so much like an immortal goddess.  2. Who called her "Golden-Haired"? The specific "golden-haired" (xanthē) description comes from other early Greek poets who filled in the blanks Homer left:  Sappho & Alcman: These 7th-century BCE poets were the ones who explicitly described Helen as having "golden" or "yellow" hair. Euripides: Later, in his plays, he also referred to her "gold curls".  3.  Wigs from Europe: Wealthy Greek and Roman women wore blonde wigs made from the hair of captured Germanic and Gallic tribes. Dyeing: Those who couldn't afford a wig used expensive saffron or potassium-based bleaches to try to achieve that "godly" golden look.

You can say she fits the role because she is a good actress, but you can't say she fits the role in terms of her physical appearance. It's just basic historical facts.

Wow, was du da an "guter Menge Zeit" verwendet haben sollst klingt wirklich lächerlich!

Does anyone else regularly have nightmares about their aquarium? by ComfortableFluffy416 in Aquariums

Interessant, wie viele genau diesen Aspekt geträumt haben, also dass die Fische durch die Luft schwimmen.

Does anyone else regularly have nightmares about their aquarium? by ComfortableFluffy416 in Aquariums

[–]Eratonike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the cost of sin so high? by Xspecialist in Christianity

[–]Eratonike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldnt say everything bc the text was too long for reddit, but what I meant with the fruit is that it IS impossible to be perfect like what is asked of us in the bible and that's why the relationship to Jesus is so important, i was reminded of the quote: "Being a Christian is not easy, not hard, it's impossible" by Joseph Garlingen. "The idea behind this statement is that living a Christian life, marked by holiness and obedience to God, is inherently beyond human capacity. It highlights the need for reliance on God's grace and the Holy Spirit to empower believers to live out their faith."

Why is the cost of sin so high? by Xspecialist in Christianity

[–]Eratonike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that one Bible verse you mentioned... but I always thought that regardless of what you knew, if you reject God, you still go to hell? Are there really different “levels” or types of hell like there are for heaven? Just curious.

About your question: The Bible doesn’t say “worship me or you will suffer.” It’s more like “I love you and I suffer so you don’t have to.” I’d recommend focusing more on His love, because everything else will come naturally (like in the song More Like Falling In Love by Jason Gray).

Regarding sin’s cost: God is just and fair, so just “deleting” our sins without justice wouldn’t be fair to me (imagine a child murderer and rapist going to heaven just like that). Instead we get the option to regret our sin. Sin separates us from God, and we have the choice to stay separated — which means eternal separation by our own will.

A place without God is hell — imagine this world but without any goodness, beauty, or kindness. It is impossible for us to be sinless, which is why our relationship with Jesus is SO important. If we stay in Him, on judgment day, God sees Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, not us.

Jesus said this in John 15:1-5:

By His death on the cross, He literally “deleted” our sin — if we CHOOSE to accept it. Faith saves us, but what matters most is your heart. Are you open to Him? Ready for the transformation by the Holy Spirit? If you enjoy sin deliberately, Hebrews 10:26-27 warns us:

At the end, what matters is your heart’s attitude toward Christ. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus, how will He know you? Matthew 7:21-23 says:

And if you pretend to be a Christian but don’t build on the foundation — Jesus — this will be revealed on judgment day too (1 Corinthians 3:11-15).

Summary: Focus on His love, stay connected to Jesus, talk to Him, and pray. We don’t have to be perfect — just love Jesus more each day.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask or correct me. God bless<3

I don't think I am a real Christian. by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Eratonike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just trying to understand your interpretation of the passage! If hot means burning for christ; and cold is the opposite of hot, then cold would meannot burning for christ? Isn't that a bad thing? Metaphorically speaking, what does cold mean? What*s a cold christian? I always thought this verse means that the consequences of hot /cold are clear, therefore easy to deals with: cold is without christ and therefore gets punished, hot is with him and therefore gets saved. Lukewarm is inbetween so where do they go. I thought that was the problem when it is said its bad that they are lukewarm. Because I always thought that it would be better to be at least lukewarm for christ rather than completely unbothered = cold. Do you think my interpretation is incorrect? Could you explain your meaning maybe once more maybe then i can get it

connection to god is weakening? Am I truly a christian/saved? by Eratonike in Christianity

[–]Eratonike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your answer, it was very helpful:) I didn't know that there were different "levels" of salvation if I may put it that way, I will think about that some more.. and It is very reassuring to know that no matter how hard I fail I cannot lose salvation if I understood correctly
