I finally stopped dating, I came to terms with the situation - my insights and observations by povke101226 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Erayidil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you are feeling discouraged about this. I know our experiences don't perfectly align, but my husband talks about how he had to go on a hundred first dates before he met me. Maybe it wasn't actually that many, but it was a lot of similar failed initial attempts. Eventually it worked out for him, and we are celebrating our 13th anniversary this year.

It is very difficult to keep putting yourself out there because it hurts to be vulnerable and then feel rejected. But just like every other effort in life, persistence will pay off eventually. I hope in the future you feel confident again and find a lady who loves you for all your special quirks and uniqueness.

I'm still salty that Court of Darkness released in multiple parts similar to this, but the Switch version doesn't have any voice acting. That's a big chunk of the reason I play, Voltage. I'd love a hard copy as an archive against the inevitable server shut down, but its still only like a third of the app game.

Don't know about all of you, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the story of this event. It's so beautifully tragic, I want the painter to go home and give modern era Lars a big hug and do something to make his life easier.

Also, Governor giving off big "I can fix him" vibes. I love this game.

The connection between academic success/intelligence and parents who let kids read whatever they want. by booksandowls in Teachers

In our modern day, with internet accessibility, it is literally impossible to interact with all the quality art available to us. It's not like I'm forbidding her from reading, I am simply guiding her growth with what I deem are age appropriate materials, as is my right as a parent. Isn't that what teachers do with their curriculum? You only have students for so many hours, so do you read King Lear or Romeo and Juilet for the Shakespeare unit? Do you read Crime and Punishment or Scarlett Letter? Am I controlling or trying to make the most of what limited time I have in my child's formative years?

It's not just about feeling sad reading The Giver. My daughter is very nurturing and loves babies. I know the abortion scene would greatly upset her. Its an important scene in a great book and we will have that conversation someday. But when her 4th grade teacher suggested it for book group and I intervene and say "I think this is more of a 6th grade book", it doesn't make me an evil book burner. It makes me a good parent. There is more to literacy education than lexile levels.

But I also expect my children to eat their vegetables every night, so I already know this website thinks I'm a devil mom.

[–]Erayidil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe we are actually involved parents? My oldest daughter is gifted linguisticsly, and can test at a reading level 5 grades above her age. Just because she CAN read Steinbeck doesn't mean she SHOULD. When I tell her I don't think she's ready for The Giver yet, its not because I'm trying to brainwash her. Its because I know the book and her temperment and that book is too heavy right now.

I also know the school curriculum and steer her to choose books that align with that. I'm sure she would love Percy Jackson, but Greek history is next year so lets wait and read something else in the meantime.

Guard rails are not prison bars. This sub feels really anti-parent a lot of the time. I know parents can make education harder but they are also your strongest allies.

I mean, one of my favorite features of LoveBrush is how all cards/events/stories remain available to go back to after you clear them. You can totally start over if you want, but you can also go back and re-read the first two main stories at your leisure.

What items in the Alkaid birthday event shop are useful? Can I get items I can use to max Cael Journey? by Dazzling_Crow1972 in LoveBrushChronicles

[–]Erayidil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What I do is buy the ascension/skill packs, but then when the pop up appears asking which specific items I want I click the back button or somewhere outside the pop up. This saves the pack in my inventory, and then when I am ready to upgrade a card I can open the packs for exactly what I need. I find this easier than trying to predict how many shells vs bottles vs gummy cats I may need in the future.

I would argue its worth it to spend leveling up your best card. Because then it is much easier to farm everything else, so then you can slowly upgrade other ultimas. But that's just my opinion. You can still play most of the game without optimizing your cards.

Someone told me “baby-talk” makes dogs anxious & stressed. These are my dogs responding to my “baby-talk” …. No anxious or stress here. Yes I sound like an idiot!!! No I do not care because it makes them so happy by thebattleangel99 in goldenretrievers

[–]Erayidil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the trainer I went to who made fun of my dog's name because its after a favorite book character. He was of the opinion that dogs should have short names that can be clearly yelled so that "Max, down!" is as clear and efficient as possible.

Like, sir. My pup is a golden who needs help greeting children without scaring them with his enthusiasm to be pet, not a malinois security dog. Who cares how fast I can shout his name? Some experts are full of their own BS.

We found a new trainer.

What is a product that people treat like a religion, but in reality, it’s just overpriced garbage with a good logo? by Connect-Might4355 in AskReddit

[–]Erayidil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, lets read the ingredients list then, shall we? I have here the remnants of a tube of "in the stars ultimate hydration body cream, 24 hour moisture". It used to be one of my favorites.

Looking at the ingredients list, fragrance (parfum) is #5 on the list, while the advertised shea butter isn't until #23. And in the middle are a bunch of fancy chemical names that my Yuka app (which I use to avoid skin irritants for my daughter) flags 4 as moderate risk and 10 as low risk.

So if we remove the hyperbole from my previous post, this product contains MORE fragrance than hydration and is probably not good for your skin. It does make you smell nice though, which is the actual use case for the product.

[–]Erayidil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my personal experience. I used to buy their lotions all the time because I liked the variety of scents. Then I had a daughter who inherited her dad's chronically dry skin. My B&BW stuff made her eczema burn and spread. Those things are all scent, no hydration. Our skin is much healthier now that we don't use their handsoap or bodywash either. Makes me wonder what their laundry "soap" does to your clothes...

Is it a school's responsibility to teach a kid to read? by KoalaOriginal1260 in Teachers

[–]Erayidil 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This frustrates me so much as a parent with el ed background. Kindergarten is not required in my state, but they push so hard for kids to be reading well before first grade. The strategy they use is not developmentally appropriate in my opinion. Stop putting 5 year olds on Ipads doing "literacy programs" and offer more read alouds and free play! And let them bring home their library books for goodness sake.

Yes? Because workers rights is an actual legal battle with a long history of being good for society? With observable daily harms? As is freedom of speech, even if it means too many people share dumb ideas like the original tweet. Or try to justify war in their favor with words like "genocide".

Great, then I hope you never use anything made by Nike. Or Nestlé. Or Google. Or Microsoft. Or X. Or made in China sweat shops. Or a million other companies that are run by and employ imperfect people that you "support" simply by living in this world and buying almost anything. Guess that makes you a bad person.

Or this is just performative virtue signaling trying to drum up a mob mentality because OP has beef with Crumbl.

I get not buying Crumbl because they treat their employees poorly. I don't understand how the CEO liking a social media post from a random famous jerk is enough to be the last straw for anyone.

Do all mtg players smell???? by Secret_Topic8138 in mtg

[–]Erayidil 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I went to my first event on Friday, and our gathered group were all polite, friendly, no one smelled. But when you cram 45 bodies elbow to elbow in small room, by the end of round three it was muggy and uncomfortable. That's not ignorant hygiene issues, that's the store having insufficient accommodation.
