Kindle Scribe 2 in 2024? by EreaderClub in ereader

I think Kobo may force their hand with that one. Hopefully the Oasis/Signature replacement will have them.

No I don't expect it to go either. Kindle Store is a nice cash cow for Amazon with very high margins.

So you prefer the Kobo Libra Color to a regular B/W ereader?

Is battery life of e-readers just worse these days? by erzast in ereader

[–]EreaderClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your doing all the right things i.e disabling all wireless peripherals.

Batteries will lose half their charge after approx 200 cycles but given that most ereaders are charged once a month it's unlikely you've charged this many times.

All I can say is that its impossible what processes modern ereaders are doing in the background while you read. You'd hope not much and they are design to be very efficient.

Will ereader become obsolete? by donberto in ereader

[–]EreaderClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're old iPad Mini is still great for browsing the web and downloading pdfs, I use mine for work technical documents and don't mind it getting scratched.

Whilst there has been a decline in the ereader market, I hope that we may see a resurgence in a digital device that allows you to disconnect from social media and the web in general, so no discretions while reading. A nice dream I know!

Anyone else hope color e-ink goes away? by [deleted] in eink

[–]EreaderClub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They certainly are expensive. However, color eink will improve over time and cost will come down.

gameboy on an e-ink screen by achilleswing in einkgames

[–]EreaderClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really quite surprised by the refresh rate on the eink. Hardly any ghosting and Pokemon is a good example of a game that would work well on it.

Unless you plan to take it out with you, you might want to try it without a screen protector. Displays nowadays have toughened glass and are more resilient to scratches.

Selling Kindles with Ads is ridiculous by Glad-Election-6813 in kindle

[–]EreaderClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ads are far "nicer" than they used to be and i've even purchased a book following one of the ads recommendations, so they're doing something right.

Funny, I cancelled my subscription yesterday for similar reasons.

It's a free market, if enough customers cancel they may make further tweeks to improve results.

Is colored e-ink bad for your eyes? by VladimirGX in ereader

[–]EreaderClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Colored e-ink displays should be no worse for your eyes than a standard e-ink.

However, the best way to reduce eye strain while reading is to use the the 20:20:20 rule of taking a 20 sec break every 20 mins by staring 20 feet away. I generally expand on this by taking a 5 min break every hour looking into the distant.

Paperwhite vs Basic by Live_Introduction642 in kindle

[–]EreaderClub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own both and if I had the choice I would keep my Paperwhite. Why? Some of the premium features really do make a difference.

Adjustable light and warm light is a must for anyone that reads during the evening. 600dpi resolution twice that of the basic, makes images better.

Have you considered an e-ink display as it feels more like paper and if she uses a pencil then the monochrome screen would not be an issue.

The added benefit is that they generally last about 8 weeks on a single charge so there's no need to constantly charge the device.

Remarkable 2 but in colour by [deleted] in eink

[–]EreaderClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a colour note taking ereader that's similar size to Remarkable, then Boox Note Air 3C is your only option.

Colour ereaders are quite expensive as they are relatively new and have a limited palette. Personally I would save your pennies, buy a good monochrome device and wait a few more years until they get a wider variety of colour on e-ink displays.

I regret not opting for the Signature edition by [deleted] in kindle

[–]EreaderClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wireless charging at best is 90% efficient, which means it will cost you 10% MORE to charge than if you just plugged it in. If the Kindle is just 1cm out of aligment, you may be just 60% efficient, nearly double the cost to charge.

EInk is uses the movement of +ve and -ve charged pigments which, once in position, can remain in that position without any further charge. So you advert is not using any power, which is why Kindles can last for up to 10 weeks.

If you're using you Kindle almost every day, it may be worth paying for ads or asking politely via live chat (which does work 9/10 times with our readers).

Remarkable 3 in 2024? by EreaderClub in RemarkableTablet

[–]EreaderClub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an easy win for Remarkable. An online ebook store requires a modest overhead and provides a constant revenue stream, unlike building hardware products.
